Have you tried the polar green cultivar? They are sold as seedlings and are supposedly winter hardy to zone 5 with light mulch. The interesting thing about this one is that it doesn’t have a tuber and just a root system!
@@cincytropics yeah I’ll try it, our situation is a bit different here in Europe, the spring comes quite late here since we’re at 50th latitude. But so far all my exotic plants have survived, planting them deeper really helps I think.

You could definitely try! I plant mine only a few inches down
