      But now you can have the mobility of a switch (for a time before the battery dies) and a full power PC/laptop that can play some of the best and newest games and then use it like a you would a computer! Nintendo now is losing the mobility and now relying on exclusive games on there platform, and Nintendo is not going to make a switch with windows on it.

      It may flop, PC gaming community has become very salty when closed systems are mentioned... I still can read some backlash because instead of a desktop, I bought a gaming laptop (a G752vs when the GeForce 10 series was new)... and I can play any game in mid-high specs, even at 2160p (but sadly, I can't make it work in HDR properly). No imagine a handheld device from a community that's always complaining about phone games aren't "real videogames".

    Their version of steam os is most likely not going to be very different from desktop linux (looking at screenshots of it connected to an external monitor), it is a modified version of Arch with KDE as their desktop environment, proton already exists built into the steam client for desktop linux, it is more likely Valve will just increase the proton compatibility and is already working with developers to make anti-cheat compatible with Linux. It is important to remember that even without the entire windows library, it can still boast about having a larger library than all consoles on release and even their entire lifecycle as currently 15,000 steam games can run on Linux (7,000 of those are native). Also the good thing with them using an amd gpu is that the drivers will be built into the kernel so users won't have to worry about installing or updating drivers since that will be handled by kernel updates.

      @@Cableguy15 I can understand where you guys are coming from given the track history of the company. But I think this device could overtake the portable handheld market given it's price and specs. The switch already proved a hybrid console could technically work for consumers. It just depends on implementation and software support. Either way the releases of the console of so sparsed out that even if public interest dies out and it goes on sale I doubt the company will be able to sell it at lower cost due to price cuts. The steam deck is just a pro rated steam store for software to recoup investments. If any thing they will just be scrapped into obscurity. I've tried buying older obselete tech and the price actually went higher due to shortages of product. Either way I don't see it being so cheap in the long run.

    • @GamePlayuh9510
      @GamePlayuh9510 Před 2 lety +3

      @@Cableguy15 What I remember is the steam controller, steam link (which I have, but only cause I got it "free", still cost me shipping, with a copy of Icey), and Index. As far as I can tell Index is still hanging in there. Steam link probably failed (the hardware anyway. There a mobile app variant still available), because what it could do wasn't really hard to do in other existing ways that were likely cheaper. And the controller from what I can tell was very polarized. Some people liked it well enough, but I think the biggest issue was the trackpad and lack of a D-pad for people.
      This Deck seems like a new type of beast entirely. It combines the access PCs have to a wide range of features with the portability of a switch. And, I don't think the video went over this, the thing is supposed to have a purchasable dock later, like the switch. I believe the dock comes with an HDMI port, so you can theoretically just use the thing as your main gaming PC, that you can move between a monitor or tv with far more ease than a traditional tower. It's an ambitious piece of hardware. Far more than their previous endeavors. Now they just have to present results. It could always flop, which is why despite my pseudo-gushing, I'm just cautiously optimistic. But as long as it plays games well and the hardware is relatively durable, I think it'll be a hit. And at least Steam is willing to try new things once in a while, even if they don't all find success.

    I do think that the idea of a less expensive gaming PC for people with too low income for regular hardcore pc gaming is a great idea, I just accidentally broke my laptop screen recently. Even the latest next gen gaming laptops of today will cost over $1000 dollars, so I like Steam's vision, it's a lot more revolutionary than you think.

    The current PC I use was alright when I built it, but as technology moves forward, and my computer doesn't, I find that I have less and less to play due to a lack of availability on my increasingly potato'd machine. Assuming this thing lives up to the promise of playing most, if not all, modern games decently, I see it as a very enticing choice of an upgrade instead of spending probably twice as much or more on a new rig.

Now we’re moving onto the next generation and I don’t see anything good in getting a Ps5 or Xbox series X so this is just perfect for me.

    I feel like it’s been much the same paradigm for so long with gaming, and we’re about to see some massive shifts in the near future. Will it be cloud streaming with xcloud/stadia/etc? Massive PC libraries viable on consoles? The “old” guard consoles with the new gen xbox/ps5? Will Nintendo’s IPs circumvent all of that again? Or maybe there’s enough room in the market now for all of that to thrive at once? Can’t say for sure, but it feels like a storm’s a-comin’.
