My pup took a very aggressive posture toward an older, calmer dog. The dog growled and bared its teeth and I thought a fight was sure to ensue. Then my dog submitted, did a 'play bow', and they started pawing each other and romping around. Now they are absolute best friends. Sometimes young dogs just need to be put in their place by an older dog.
Instead of sometimes being the rule I think all dogs need that time that they are put into their place by another dog. Of course it's always best when it's done at a young age but doesn't matter if it hasn't been done it needs to be done. And if you can find the one dog that your dog just absolutely goes berserks over and you socialize your dog with that dog it makes the biggest difference of anything I have ever come across in training
The other dog corrected her and was not submissive - see my comment above about my Boxer, who has identical behaviour to your pup.

ooooh I wish I could do that somehow :/ my dog is very friendly (sometimes too friendly), loves to play rough but also respects other dogs who don't wanna play. But one, ONE dog seems to be the main "evil" for him, a few houses down from us a gsd, & they both go bonkers at the fence with each other, mine whines AND barks AND growls all the same time yet pulling to that fence.. I think that gsd is undersocialized, but mine.. 🤷♀️ no idea why he holds the grudge.. But there's no problem at other fences.. we already avoiding to go that direction so only 1 way left to go to his free-run place :( (tried to pass that fence with properly fitted-introduced-conditioned gentle leader - cut into my dog's skin when he 'corrected himself' at the gsd fence :///)
@@livus3787 we have that one dog that lives down the street from us too! Isn't that funny. Ours is a husky that is tied to a tree in his front yard
The hard part is finding another dog, and dog owner, willing to work with you on this. Our dog lost his only dog friend a few years ago. And he was sometimes aggressive toward her too. He even bit her once. Since we lost our other dog, this guy is very reactive to any dog.
Yeah same here, my little one lost his big Labrador friend last year, only other dog he could tolerate but who he also sometimes bullied. He's more defensive rather than aggressive, snaps at some dogs but does a wide circle around others, but he's 10yo with huge anxiety issues so even if I could find a dog and owner to work with, I dunno if he'd ever change.

It's amazing to see the second dog actually nip Bosco and tyhen try to bite him on the side and Bosco just looked at him as if to say "WTF" you doing? Bosco and Prince are just incredibly smart and so well trained. Hats off to you Joel.
I love watching Bosco see the bite coming, and he knows how to slowly move an inch or two out of the way at the right time not to get bit. 👏👏

Up until about a month ago I was under the impression that one of my boys just preferred to not have dog friends outside of the pack but, I have recently discovered that it is an issue of territorial behavior when he is near home he doesn't want to make friends with dogs. But if I take him outside of his own territory or what can be perceived as such, he is every dogs dog! I tell you it's the one thing in life that you can never get enough experience at, you're always going to still have something to learn when it comes to this dog parenting thing.
I'm finding myself in the same situation, I have my dog and there are 3 more rescued dogs in the house, he barely never play with them and he just run away when they start to play or get over him, I started going on daily walks twice a day and he just want to meet every dog we walk by in the streets, he still doesn't look like he want to run and play with them but just the fact that he approach and smell others dogs looks nice to me, but when we go back home is like he see our others dogs and is like stay away for me, kinda weird tho.
I can't get over the great big "fierce" Doberman playing with the teddy bear. You were so lucky to find him, and so smart to see his potential for saving lives.
3 of my dogs are great for this! I take them on my pack walks and they help socialise the new ones. I always say the best thing you can do is get your dogs in pack walks, they learn more from the others than we can ever teach them.

They can’t fix it because they don’t understand/ accept that it isn’t a training problem, it’s a socialization problem. At some point the dog was rewarded, or allowed to get away with aggressive behavior. So like a child, the dog resorts to what works in their environment.
You will never replace that behavior through “positive” means. It needs to be humanely corrected. Bosco did a beautiful job of being non-threatening, but non-reactive. Making it clear to the aggressive dog that I’m not going to hurt you… but (like a kid throwing a tantrum) your behavior isn’t going to get you what you want. Because you don’t scare me…
The only way to get rid of the behavior is to make it clear that it no longer works, and they need to find another, better way.
Yes! "You don't scare me" That's exactly it! Bosco be like a MMA or Black Belt kid just giving that bully one look & the bully's like 'nah'. Lol.

My previous dog, a lab, was the calm, happy dog you describe. Here's the thing, I learned that other dog owners had ZERO sense about their dog's aggressive, dangerous potential. After year five or so with her, no way would I have trusted my sweet darling with some dogs I saw. So it might be helpful to me, to see a very detailed step by step video. Including a muzzle fitting video.
Great point Pat. I have an 70 lb 11mo English Setter who's a sweetheart and loves dogs. I very rarely let him play around dogs who have an aggressive / mean streak, for the risk of it harming my pup and creating behavioral issues for him.
It can be done through a chain link fence for the protection of both. Also, as he said, a muzzle will prevent any danger.

Your videos has helped me tremendously. I have a 4 dogs .Two of them are a pitbull and an amstaff. I didn't know the importance of training. These two went from playing to fighting and thought about giving them away.Now they don't growl, at other dogs neither to people don't look for a fight, I still have a lot of work to do but it's getting better. My Rottweiler when he was around 4-9 was a great teacher to puppies. He is 11 now so I only socialize him with older/gentler dogs but watching these videos reminds me of all the puppies he’s helped socialize/discipline. I miss those days.

That was my exact sentiments. I've become Addicted to learning it ALL. Behaviors, training of ALL kinds, and all different methods of communicating. I still havent mastered my own pack even though I help other dogs and people think Its so amazing when that initial transformation takes effect the first time and only gets better from there. I'm 3 yrs in to craming all the information I can hold everyday. My kids have begun to think tthat I prefer dogs over humans including them because I am so I to it that I cant think of another subject tp socialize with and so i talk about dogs dogs and more dogs. Poops not sorry. My youngest human kid is 17. This is my life after them just coming into its potential. But I kniw way more than normal people and some whom call themselves professional trainers. But still feel like my database is only 20% uploaded! Theres so much! I want to be able tp do the behaviorist side and training but especially difficult behavior modification cases. I dknt want anyone to have to hire anyone else after that dogs completion with me. One stop shop!
I had a dog who became reactive after he was attacked as a puppy. (This was 20 years ago). I was able to change things after I found the book “Calming Signals in Dogs” by Turid Rugaas. Badger didn’t think that it was him who was doing things wrong. After I turned my own back on an approaching dogs, Badger gave a sigh of relief and relaxed.
I was later asked to take a lurcher (wolfhound cross) who had her moments. I had her on a leash one day as we approached a Westie so I threw myself on top of her. The Westie’s owner congratulated me for the rugby tackle. That dog’s problem was resource guarding and the last dog she had a difference with was a spaniel who ran up and snatched her ball out of her mouth!
I usually used my dogs to help my friend's dogs socialize (puppies and old dogs), i rec beagles, great personality, playful, friendly and a common breed

I think most trainers are showing how to train from a puppy. You on the otherhand show dogs that are mature and most likely untrained. This is an excellent method that requires a different skillset and also the most commonn scenario for most people. Prince is an excellent example of the benefits of traing a dog from the begining. Great video..
I can see by the comments section how many people are still using excuses to explain away their dogs bad behavior. It's really that simple. You have to change the way you feel about it, it begins with you! You have to stop making excuses, and stop tolerating the bad behavior. You just cannot allow it. That mindset is what changes dogs.
This explains a lot. Meaning, how many truly neutral dogs does the average dog get exposed to in an everyday walk? Very very few. Most dogs walking around town (at least where I live) are absolute a-holes towards other dogs. So it's no wonder that many dogs see most other dogs as a threat.
The trick here is, tipping those scales in our favor - so how do we find more neutral dogs to be around - and how many of those owners will want to be involved? Tricky to set up with many different dogs / reps, but certainly effective.
There are so few people who actually train their dogs in any way! They let their dogs drag them down the street - let them stand and bark and/or lunge at strange dogs and people without any correction - let them romp right up to strange dogs - It's so frustrating.

My shitzu/poodle was being stalked and harassed by this husky during a day at the dogpark, but this beautiful shiny Rottweiler came by and nipped at the husky's butt, redirecting him from my dog. A lot of dogs were playing around us, but you can visibly tell that the rotty didnt like the husky's behavior/energy. She tried correcting the husky and even blocked his way every time he tried to stalk my dog. It was such a cool thing to see. A confident but calm dog trying to de-escalate the situation. Met the Rotty's owner by the gate and she told me that her dog is 2 yrs old and that's jus her personality. If you can find a dog owner with a really good dog, those are the best dogs to help teach your dogs/pup social skills.

I use Joel's methods every single day with my dog. He came as a very bold little pup who tried a few times to get his way. But because I am confident in my handling of dogs (have been all my life) I saw a problem and corrected it straight away. My dog is a confident 8 month old Shepkita (Shepard x Akita). He knows that he cannot misbehave because there are consequences for him. He is growing into a really good dog because there are boundaries and consequences to bad behavior. Every dog should have this. 😊

My old calm dog just passed yesterday. But he helped raise 2 pups and a few friends other dogs learn to be dogs. I think my Aussie lab is following in his footsteps now that he is 5.

My Pyr is 6 years old and we've been having issues with reactivity and pulling. I switched to a gentle leader TODAY and worked with some of these tricks today and he walked without pulling at all AND he walked past 2 dogs today without barking. He still has a little bit of a freakout, but the improvement on just one day was so amazing and encouraging that we're going to keep working every day. Thank you! This is the first thing that has worked, and it worked so fast. I'm amazed.
I wish my big dog was a little smaller and I wish I was a little heavier, so right now people don't trust me to control my dog. Only once did he reprimand another dog, not bit it (!). Since then there have only been contacts at the fence.
I want to change that.
It's a good thing that there is a second dog in the family that he can play with. But still something is missing. He loves some dogs next door and wants to play with them.
I'm working on regaining the neighbors' trust with your methods and I'm having initial success and I'm happy, because it works.
I want to make it because I believe it can work. My first goal is again a happy meeting on the leash.

From day one at 6.5 weeks old my Dharma Dog got to meet almost every dog that came by. I never had issues with her.

Just watched the show on dogs turning on owners. Thank you. This happened to our happy black and tan hound. Once it was because of bad teeth. The other times it was a supposed brain tumor. She was old and the vet thought due to looking in her eyes that she had one. It was odd as she did not recognize me and was extremely aggressive.
The other aggressive act that a dog did to me was from a food aggressive situation. Next time I will train that out of the dog.
Pain is usually the reason. I agree with that.

This is so true. I made the mistake of letting my dog get unsocialized and he was very reactive and aggressive until I found some regulars at the dog park and those huskies and doberman re-socialized him. I don't think I could have done it without well behaved dogs around.
This happened to me when I broke my ankle in 4 places while I had a puppy.

I love watching dogs interact naturally. It’s so interesting. You can learn a lot about them. I just don’t appreciate you saying other trainers can’t do this though, there are others out there. Give people hope they can find a reliable trainer, not scare them to not find the right one because they believe you are the only one. We all have the same goal of helping people, dogs are just the Trojan horse. I think we should have each others backs on this controversial field. But I will give you a like.
I don’t hear Joel saying he’s the only trainer who gets results.
I’ve been through trainer hell, and Joel is giving me hope for my pup. Our last trainer was usually on her cellphone, and my dog ended up with wounds from her gentle leader that lasted for 2 weeks. Also, she’s regressed a lot. Her recall is now terrible, and she still tries to exit the car before I do. 😢
Dude im Polish i very like your videos they help me a lot with my 2 years old american staffordshire terrier . He has been bitten twice by a rottweiler and now hes aggressive towards other dogs and im trying to correct it using your methods . Wish me luck !
What other breeds of dog other than a Doberman would be suitable for corrections ? How on earth in that video did Bosco not get bitten by just literally standing there, those bites were so close but he didn't even flinch ? Truly awesome to see, I don't have a dog but if I did I'd be taking every bit of help from your videos for sure 👍
I know, right! Bosco knew if he needed to move a 1/2” or 1” not to get bit. And then he would just stand there and not move. 😊
A playful, medium to high-energy, confident, dominant (NOT aggressive), discerning dog of excellent temperament, medium to large sized - 40-100 lbs, who has the presence to not back down when bullied. I'm starting my 1¾yr rescue Rottweiler on his path to becoming my Helper Dog here in South Jersey. Best of luck.

Do your dogs resource guard their food too, or just toys? One of my dogs is extremely dog reactive, but only resource guards his toys and never his food for some reason! My other dog can easily come and take his food if I let her, and he couldn't care less! Most bizarre thing to me! Haha.. how bout your dog? Is he/she a jerk about food too, or just toys? I second this video request as resource guarding seems to be a beast in itself that doesn't get touched on much!
@@SJane3 I’ve only ever seen my dog show his teeth and snarl at my cats if I give him a special bone. Other than that if it’s his breakfast/dinner is his bowl ive never seen him get aggressive over that. And he’s never been aggressive towards any person regarding this stuff. My dog gets hyper focused with balls specifically. He loves chasing the ball around so I noticed he would go after dogs nastily at the dog park if he dropped the ball on the ground and another dog tried to get it from him. That started a little fight one time so ever since then I take him to a big field where it’s just us so I can throw the ball around for him peacefully. If there are no toys involved he gets along with every dog. He can play tug of war and share toys with only 1 dog and that’s my family’s Rottweiler. My dog is only 2 yrs old and he’s a big sweetheart otherwise, I hated seeing him get that way the few times I’ve seen it
@shawnee8271 I'm glad your pup gets along with other dogs when toys are involved. Considering he loves to play with a ball so much I imagine he would love playing chase with other dogs too?! My "problem pup" (not really a problem just difficult at times.. hahaha) is dog reactive to pretty much every dog except my second one (a labrador) and a neighbor's lab. Just like Joel has said in his videos, I think it's the best when dogs can be with other dogs and play with them! I hope he will be able to post something about the resource guarding so your dog can one day be able to play fetch at a dog park one day too! That would be amazing!! I honestly laughed a bit when you wrote about your dog reacting to your cat! Haha.. my sweet lab learned quite early that despite their size difference, cats aren't fun toys to play with... at just the sight of a cat my girl goes into avoidance and doesn't even entertain it! While my boy hasn't been allowed to learn that same lesson, though it is tempting to let happen! I'm surprised your cat didn't teach your dog the result of that "game" when he snarled at it! Haha

Great video! I totally agree with you, and how great is it you've made this to help people who can't come to you so you can use Prince to help their dogs? My dog's a lot like Prince and I'm more than happy to help people with their reactive dogs, but most people just go into avoidance mode. Oh well, understandable but if they don't want help, they don't.
For those who aren't as good at reading dogs in order to pick a calm, balanced dog to help them, would you consider doing a video on that topic?
When my dog was about 6mo she was being too much to an older dog, he corrected her, and since that day she *always* checks how the other dog wants to play, they want to throw paws and play bite? She will do the same, they like to run? She will run, no play at all and just sniff? That's alright too! Valid to all dogs sizes! A dog correcting another one in the right moment is the best thing! Love your videos Joel.
A huge, male GSD corrected my GSD puppy, and all was well. About a year later, two ankle biters went after her the same day. She corrected them (growled), and their owners spazzed out. Now I’m afraid of being in public with my GSD, who loves everything and everyone. The last time we went to a dog park, she was bitten by an ankle biter. It’s confusing for her, because for the first year & a half of her life, her friends were small dogs who lived nearby (and our older dog, and the pitty next door). They all used our front yard to play. We need to meet some small, non-aggressive dogs.
@@SuziQ. I apologize, but I'm the one confused with your story, what you told me is that your dog growled at two rude dogs and she is the wrong one? She seems to know to not put a fight but instead set limits. As long as she isn't reactive (in a aggressive way) and giving the other dogs warnings, I can't understand why you are afraid. But I hope you can meet sweet dogs for her to make new small friends.

I’m afraid because the small dog owners (and a lot of people in general) see German Shepherds as scary dogs, and they always get blamed. That has been my experience, and I noticed the same problem happened to my GSD’s litter sister.
Once, we were at a dog park with her sister and her humans. Her sister was provoked by a small dog, and growled.
The owner of the small dog punched my dog hard, in the chest, as he left the park. He thought my pup was her sister. It’s a nightmare with the aggressive little dogs.
People with aggressive big dogs don’t seem to take them to the dog parks I’ve been to, but the ankle biters get a “free pass” to continue being jerks.
(I cursed that man for attacking my puppy, but that’s all I could do, because he was already outside the fence. I wanted to hurt him for what he did to a completely innocent look alike. Her sister didn’t deserve a chest/neck punch, either, and it happened when we were on the opposite side of the park from her sister and her humans, but I saw it, and the little dog was at fault.)
@@SuziQ. Thank you for clarifying! Indeed that's the hard reality. Small dog owners find it "so cute" when they bite and growl, then you see small dogs with anxiety, lack of self control and being general jerks while the owners find it adorable... Society needs *a lot* of education on that... Mine will be as big as GSD (she is an J.Akira) so I know the struggles, people already think she is dangerous and she is only 9mo and a sweet bean. The best we can do as big dog owners is teach ours and scold the owners of the small ones when it's fitting. Good luck there, sending boops to your lovely girl.

Can I ask, if I borrowed my neighbour's very very calm Husky to help my fear reactive Border Collie would my Collie react and be jealous seeing me with another dog (the Husky)on leash, would this make him my Collie worse. It's unfortunate that the doggie daycares around can't offer this type of service. Unfortunately they end up alienating the dog who shows the aggressive actions. I wish you had more locations, or a network of trainers who could offer this service.
I completely believe this can work, however I live in a dog walking neighborhood with all dogs on leash & neighbors that barely say hello or on occasion say rude remarks when they see my husband and I trying to control our reactive dog. Not exactly a supportive environment. Also, I have utilized my sister’s dog to socialize with mine, and once my dog leaves that dog & see’s any other dog, it’s back to square one. I have spoke to some friends about getting our dogs together, after explaining my situation, and they politely decline because they don’t want to “stress” their dog or have a potential incident. Finding the right people, the right dogs, in the right environment is not possible. I find most folks prefer to keep their distance and aren’t motivated to help someone rehabilitate their reactive dog. Maybe it’s just where I live.
same, its not easy at all to find other dogs to work with often or regularly. My husky is crazy around other dogs. Given some time and treats he will play.. but back to square one with any new dog encountered. I wonder if shock collar and muzzle would help correct. I'm at a loss.
One of the best ways to get the dog from a house or car when in pain is by putting a thick blanket over their head so they cannot bite or see you helping them

most people think i should just let my dog only play in small dog play pen, but no dogs are there to play/socialize with most of the time.

I have a question, though I did my research on internet actually, could not find the answer that make sence , you know. Why would a dog, would be car reactive? My dog is 1,5 year old, super friendly to other dogs, to people, but car. He tries to attack on them. I take him to the dog parks by my car, so he is being in car many times. I walk with him in residential areas as well as main roads, just to get him used to the cars. Still no difference. So, I am confused.
Does he attack your car when he’s not in it? Does he only attack moving cars, or parked cars, too?
I’m curious. Do you know if he was ever hit by a car? Does he scratch or bite at the cars?
@@SuziQ. No, he does not attack to my car nor parked cars, he is interested in only moving cars 😄 Also not the cars moving same direction with us, he tries to attack only coming traffic towards us. Of course I dont let him attack really, he will get hit himself instead of scratching them.He was a puppy when I got him, so no car accident. I live in Ontario, and right now snow and ice everywhere. As soon as they melt down,, I will be putting more effort to deal with this weird habit. 🤔
@@Bugu1969 , Try adding a gentle leader, along with a collar (not a harness- they use more muscles and pull more in harnesses). Make sure it fits right, and try to find one with a padded nose loop.
We use a gentle leader, to stop the pulling.
I saw a video on this channel where Joel talks about gentle leaders; maybe search for that.
I have traffic worries, too. It’s my biggest fear for my dogs, so I leash them in the car (in the garage) before we go out. Good luck. You can keep him safe.

Silly question, my teen pup overwhelmed their original owner by 4/5 months and was allowed to not listen a lot... more then any rescue I’ve ever had. He showed signs of being hit, his house breaking issues were due to malnutrition & a stomach infection... so while he was ill he listened and now he’s healthy & in the teen phase he’s catching up
on lost life experiences.
Are there any specific videos that are good for the beginning of training? I want to straighten him out in the right order.
Working again on come & down(off the couch) now but he won’t settle & only goes to bed if we grab keys or put shoes on. GSD/Aussie mix thats like the cowardly lion(prob due to puppy abuse) but unusually huge for those breeds, close small horse size so far, lol.... he doesnt get up on the couch using feet/legs because he’s big enough to flop sideways on it.
A friend of mine just had to give up their dog due to it's increased aggressiveness. It would attack other dogs and if it was a bad day they would attack the owners; bad enought to give stitches. The dog has been with them since it was a puppy but has been like this with other dogs its whole life, but never the owners before. Is this the kind of situation where something like this could possibly work?
My Boxer pup is very dominant and aggressive to WEAKER dogs. Our Cane Corso is a breeze: respectful and playful with large and small dogs.
We take the Boxer to meet other dogs and correct her when she's aggressive. When she plays with the Corso, she's the only one to lose it and get serious.

Hey so I'm having a problem with my dogs. I recently got a new dog and the old dog I have is very dog aggressive and people aggressive. The new dog is fearful in general, but now she's defensive towards my old dog. I really need to get them to meet safely, but every time we try, they get into a fight. I was thinking maybe muzzles on both of them would be good, since I can't trust either of them at this point, and I just need them to stop trying to hurt each other.
my husky learned to be aggressive because of being consistently and regularly bullied at off leash dog parks when I rescued him at 8 months old. Within a 3-4 months of taking him to a dog park he went from running away when being bullied to starting a "Fight" when another dog corrected him. He doesn't get to be off leash anymore. I feel hopeless because finding other people with calm dogs is not easy, nor are they willing to help either. Especially when my dog's MO is to go right to aggression. I've thought maybe a shock collar and muzzle would be a way to correct him. Where are you located?

My 1 year old Cockapoo showed his teeth then lunged at me while he was having a belly rub out of the blue. He also now attacks my son while being petted with no warning. I am firm with him and send him to his bed after a swift correction with his collar (a quick snap and a definite "NO" and then he is restricted, no pets, no couch, nothing. My son has OCD and has to touch everything (he also has Down syndrome). The dog thinks he is going for one of his toys and again will snap at him. I'm at my wits end. Please tell me if I am not doing correction properly. I love your videos and I am sure I have watched them all. I see a lot of reactive behavior but only with other dogs, not people. I need your advice.

Hi Joel I have a springer cross collie she's 1year old now and met 100s of different dogs as I'm always on the beach with her and she's starting to tell dogs off when there bothering her she not aggressive at all and very well socialised. Always off the lead but when dog's come up to her and don't leave her alone she gives them a firm WARNING should I be concerned or stop her from doing it or is it a good thing?need your professional advice
What if your dog doesn’t accept corrections from other dogs? My dog gets dominant and then when the other dog corrects his bad behavior, he doesn’t back down, he fights. I don’t have a Bosco anywhere near me. I’ve asked and begged people with even tempered dogs to help, and the few that I know just never do.
You have to make sure, your dog can't hurt the other dog, who's trying to correct the bad behaviour.

Maybe you already have a video on it and I just haven’t found it. How do you recommend teaching your young dog to stand up for itself (ex. at the dog park) without being aggressive instead of running and hiding in between mine and other owner’s legs. He’s not a fearful dog by any means. But more than once he seems to draw the attention of bullies at the dog park and he doesn’t push back as much as he should.
please be careful here. This is exactly how my dog became aggressive. I started taking him to off-leash dog parks when I rescued him at 8 months old. We went often because I believed I was socializing my dog. However, for whatever reason, almost every time we went he would get bullied and run away, eventually turning to defend himself. However, over time, the running away lessoned and the turning to defend himself became the norm. Now he is aggressive to other dogs and its a problem.
He learned other dogs are to be dominated first and if the aren't belly up its a bad interaction.

Been watching you a while amd love your content. In an effort to broaden my learning i have found a few other trainers that utilise tools such as the prong to deliver more precise corrections than on the flat collar.
Iam interested if you have any opinion or reasoning eitherway as to what makes the flat collar a better tools for these scenarios? Cheers
He does not use prong collars because he doesn’t think they are superior to traditional collars. A well timed correction is plenty effective. Dogs can associate the “pain” from the prong with the meeting of other dogs and cause them to be more aggressive. Ultimately, he doesn’t believe they are necessary
@@UNDERDOGMMA ok i think i understand but if you teach what the prong is first it looks like the same method but a more effective way to communicate. I.e. you use less corrections to achieve the same end

We tried basket and mesh muzzles and she can always get them off her face somehow. I know she needs to be exposed to more dogs to get over her reaction but it freaks me out. We had to get rid of our lab because they wouldn't stop trying to tear each other apart
You had 2 labs and got rid of the calm one?
@@graceross4888 no I had one lab one boxer. Both were aggressive toward each other. We tried training and muzzles. The final straw was my mom got in the middle of a fight and ended up with 15 stitches

How can I get a private lesson? I have a 3 year old german shepherd that has fear based aggression towards humans and dogs.
I 'fixed' my last dog's, dog aggression (5 yr old staffy rescue) with a clicker and treats. The bigger the dog the bigger her reaction would be. Even after being corrected by a mastiff that was f'ing huge, she would still go for them!
I also used the clicker to stop her going for cats successfully

I have a 7 mo. old puppy who's (what I would call) severely reactive on leash to dogs walking near her, behind fences, sometimes across the street, etc. Whining and barking, looking around nervously, etc. I'm assuming fear/anxiety. I've watched many of your videos during the last two months and got a Gentle Leader this week after seeing your recommendation. It's helping enormously to keep her with me on walks, but she still loses it with other dogs around us. She gets weekly play time with two friend's dogs, very playful and high energy, but non-aggressive.Before I start looking for trainers in my area to help me deal with her reactivity and expose her to more balanced dogs, is 7 months too young for that now?

I have introduced my male fixed blue heeler to many dogs and he is okay after a long intro and corrections by other dogs but it never lasts... the next time he sees the same dog he is back to being aggressive and barking in their face ... especially male dogs

My dog literally couldn’t care less about other dogs. He got out of the yard the other day while we were outside and saw a lady walking her dog (a little shitzu type dog) and my dog (little shitzu havanese mix) literally ignored the dog and barked solely at the woman. She was so concerned for her dog (obviously) until she realized my dog didn’t have any interest in hers and just wanted to bark at her🙄😂 she even tried to get the dogs to meet while I was trying to collect him, to no avail. Even at dog parks, he avoids others and will take a “liking” to one person and just bark at them. My dogs a weirdo😅

What if my pup (15 year old chihuahua/pit bull terrier mix 😵💫😬 I know know ..) is pulling to get to the grass to go pee / poop. I feel like she does that a lot !! I’m doing everything I can trying Joel’s methods. She’s so tiny, though it’s hard to do the gentle tug on the leash thing she’s so low to the ground . I’ve had several emotional breakdowns because I’ve lost my temper with her when she has lost her shit when people have walked by us on the street and gone apeshit ! She turns into Tasmanian Devil and I have arthritis in my hands, so really hurts my hands trying to control the leash and control her of my rope. I feel so bad.even though I correct her and I’ve been doing everything I can I feel like I’m a bad puppy mommy 😢 basically how do I practice this method if I have to take her out to pee or poop we’re trying to take her back in the house every two seconds. If she’s pulling on the leash what should I do? I’m in an apartment.
