He outclassed her at her own game on a level that she struggled to comprehend, and then they started taking turns rescuing each other through to the end of Shippuden. As good as Naruto and Hinata are together, I think these two feel like their relationship is more credible. Hinata's background kind of clashes with her shy personality. She's a freakin princess, comes from a rich family, and she goes from cute to knockout to yummy mommy over the course of the series. You'd think she'd have a little more confidence.

Going to disagree with you about Hinata. In all of the scenes detailing her day to day life with her family, Hinata gets mentally abused fairly regularly, destroying her confidence. It's not until she meets Naruto that she sees what confidence even looks like given he's in the same situation she was in. That being, Naruto didn't have a lot of innate talent yet he stayed positive that he was going to be Hokage. That's what helped Hinata try to work harder, despite the occasional setback.

While most kids would only care about looking good, being strong, and trying to perservere, the elders recognize that it takes a true leader to make a the right call for everyone's sake. Nara clan is true ninja clan in Naruto. No bs elemental magic, throwing planets of the sky or over the top chakra moves. Just simple hiding in shadows, using kunai, strategize and taking the opponent quietly. That was the best fight in OG Naruto in my opinion. Really great idea and execution by author.

Kishimoto dropped the ball with this franchise not gonna lie. Showcasing Shinobi of various kinds using their talents in specific ways would have been way more interesting then turning it into Dragon Ball Z with pajamas. Not saying every fight has to be Shikamaru vs Temari but he's created so many interesting characters and abilities it's a shame what it streamlined into.
Shikamaru is one of the coldest characters in the show. As dope as a show Naruto is, it’s ridiculous how much they drag out scenes and episodes. Shikamaru is one of the coldest characters in the show. As dope as a show Naruto is, it’s ridiculous how much they drag out scenes and episodes. This is the only anime I’ve watched that has flashbacks longer than the present day scene. Or flashbacks inside of the flashbacks. This could’ve easily been an under 10 minute fight

I believe that Shikamaru should have been Hokage realistically. Don't get me wrong he isn't the strongest by a long shot but he is insanely clever, honorable and knows when to and not to fight. He really is a ninjas ninja. In a different series I honestly think he should have been the main character with Naruto and co as support. He is like a more mature nicer less crazy version of Lelouche

Shikamaru actually put effort and strategy into this. All Shikadai did was trap Boruto in his shadow and then gave up when more clones came. If quiting helps you climb up the rank then no wonder the leaf village is screwed.
Quitting after showing his capabilities is what got him rise up in the rank. Leader isn’t a quitter but knows when to cut your losses

One of my favorite episodes. When I watch this and other leaf village shinobi its really wild how they were molding some of the most smart and powerful shinobi. The leaf really had extraordinary talent

He thought this inside the show he knew he was a side character from the start and we viewers did as well even us viewers didnt expected this episode to be the way it was. Extremely well made character is what shikamaru is.
