  • Hey guys! This video is my first serial killer case! It’s the story of Joanne Dennehy, also known as the UK’s most dangerous woman! This case is also known as the Peterborough Ditch Murders, and you’ll find out why in the video. It’s not the most well known story so I’m not sure how many of you will have heard of this one, but it’s a really crazy story and I was shocked when I first came across this case. She is a terrible person and you can totally understand why she has been given the title of the UK’s most dangerous woman after hearing what she did. Would love to hear if you agree in the comments!

    Hi my name is Danielle, welcome to my True Crime and Makeup series! I’ve been interested in true crime for the longest time now, what started with me watching true crime on TV with my Nan from a young age eventually turned into studying for a degree in Law & Criminology.
    When I first watched Bailey Sarian’s Murder Mystery Makeup Monday series I was completely hooked, I loved how she had combined two of the things I’m most passionate about and delivered it so well. She totally inspired me to take the leap and do the same thing on my channel, so all credit for the idea goes 100% to her.
    I’m from the UK and will be covering cases from both the UK and internationally, let me know if there are any cases that you’d like to see from me! More cases will be coming soon so please subscribe if you enjoyed this video!

      Really seems like that was the thing that might've happened. Becoming aggressive, sexual promiscuity, an attraction to older men in particular--that all just seems too coincidental for it to have just happened as a result of simply puberty or something innocuous. yeah, my first thought was she was molested from a young age and when she finally tried to tell people, they didn't believe her. That's so messed up. It's pretty common for young girls to be molested before puberty, or to just be harassed by men before puberty.

    • @leopardprints
      @leopardprints Před 3 lety +51

      @@ontxtteredwxngs Yeah, SH that severe is usually rooted in unresolved trauma, usually SA. As an adult, she did say that her father had raped her as a child, but because she's been branded a pathological liar (which is a symptom of childhood trauma!) people don't believe her.
      We know for a fact that she was in a relationship when she was 14 with a man in his 20s, who went on to be the father of her children. Probably, as she got older she realised how fucked up their relationship dynamic was when they were younger, and that triggered her. I also think her parents didn't do enough to deter the relationship, they should have gone to the police and got him arrested.
      I know people are critical of her that she was a 'bad mother' to her kids- but think about it, she had those kids with a man who groomed her as a 14 year old. She was also a victim in that situation. He ex-partner sounds like an absolute creep and it was sickening how he was in the media talking about Joanna, when he was a predator and had molested her.
      Also, who says she had a 'happy childhood'? Her parents, well of course they would say that. Maybe she was abused by a family member, family friend etc. For a child to have such a drastic change in behaviour and personality- drugs, truanting, running away, trauma could have been a trigger.

It was likely a relative and either her parents never noticed (I'm confused as to why they didn't get her any help. I know support like this would've been thin on the ground in 1996, but did they really not do anything besides telling her off???), the abuser really pulled a number on her psyche to make her not tell anyone and it was a relative her parents got on really well with, or she just convinced herself somehow that she couldn't tell anyone.

My mom even jokes that she "got her old daughter back"😅
      So I wouldn't be surprised if this was hormone related/ trauma

  • @nikid9807
    @nikid9807 Před 2 lety +71

    Considering her seemingly overnight change as a young teen to start binge drinking and doing drugs, I'd definitely believe she was sexually assaulted as a child. Maybe continuously, and maybe the realization of what was happening came crashing down on her when she was that age and she turned to drinking and drugs to run from it. It may have even been a man with a dog, maybe that's where her interest in attacking men with dogs came from, but this is obviously all speculation.
    Over time, her alcohol and drug abuse would have changed her brain chemistry, and if she already had markers for personality disorders then the drugs and alcohol most likely exacerbated it.
    I am NOT trying to excuse what she did. Whatever her past, whoever hurt her, those other random men did not deserve to die or be brutally stabbed at random.
    However, I do see this as a sad case of a young girl who clearly endured some trauma and did not receive proper help after the fact. Maybe her parents didn't know what happened and maybe she kept it hidden from them and maybe not. Maybe it was her dad and maybe it wasn't. Maybe it was a family friend and maybe it was a stranger. Either way, she clearly didn't think she would be believed, she turned to substance abuse to numb herself, she became overly flirty with men most likely as a trauma response (it's a common one), and her substance use exacerbated or triggered an underlying personality disorder. Perhaps if she had come forward and gotten help, perhaps if she hadn't turned to substances and went to therapy instead, or perhaps if she had never been assaulted as a child to begin with, none of this would have happened. I think almost everyone is capable of heinous actions given the right (or maybe wrong) set of circumstances and/or triggers, and in this case unfortunately there was a perfect storm of events to send someone over the edge.
    Again, not an excuse and she absolutely made her own choices and is where she belongs. But it does beg the question: what if she'd gotten the right help as a child? Could her life and her choices have turned out different?

    "have a thing for older guys" orrrrr she was repeatedly groomed? Most people who are abused do not only get abused once unfortunately because we learn that that kind of manipulation and control are okay. Most kids like attention from older people but it's the responsibility of the older people to not take that further. Especially if you have issues at home, that kind of positive attention can be so much more valuable to a kid and therefore easier to manipulate. Idk, to me that kind of sudden behaviour change speaks of someone who snapped from their negative surroundings. I've seen it happen often. People also don't take hard drugs for no reason, drugs are an escape from reality. And it's extremely common for abuse survivors to then develop addiction issues. So yeah. Idk I wouldn't find the parental sexual abuse hard to believe. But of course none of that excuses what she went on to do. But I do think because this kind of thing is v common with people who do not to awful things that it's important to portray accurately.

      It´s said in the video she was diagnosed with anti-social disorder. This kind of people normally lack of any emphaty, that´s why they become masters in manipulating others. The feel no shame about it, it´s always all an act, a way to get something else from a certain someone or a situation. If she would have been diagnosed early in life, maybe she could have been allowed to have a normal life (with constant watch from relatives and mental care workers). But if these cases go on an adult age without the proper conditions. It´s over, there is really a slow chance that anyone with this kind of disorderd don´t end up stealing, abusing, killing others as if they were things. That´s how they feel, as if others were things waiting for them to be used. I had a brother with this kind of problematic who wasn´t diagnosed in time, so of course he was in jail and now is death. So yeah, mental health is important.

      @@stephenellwood161 Okay, but that's you. Women being conditioned to be more sexual at a very young age is pretty common in abusive homes. The term "daddy issues" comes to mind. When a girl is mistreated by the male figure that's supposed to protect her, she could turn to older men for comfort and protection because they usually have something that younger guys don't have. Jobs, money, maturity etc. Also, people that say they weren't groomed, don't actually always know that they were groomed. They don't just go around telling people they were molested and when she finally DID, no one believed her bc she was considered "a liar." Of course her dad is going to say he didn't abuse her. He doesn't think he should be responsible for his actions that put all of this in motion.

He dated the middle school age girls. It was super weird. He had his own studio apartment and worked evenings at the mint mart down town. I think most parents didn't saying anything because they thought he had learning disabilities but he really didn't. My oldest sister is very blunt and asked him once why he kept failing. This story is so fascinating. While Joanne's diagnosis seems clear -- antisocial personality disorder, she actually meets all 7 criteria and you only need 4 -- the "why" is so unclear here. We've got two alternatives: one, there was some sort of early-childhood neglect or abuse that served as a trigger which went undetected and unreported, or two, that she had some sort of genetic or physical abnormality that caused this. Something did cause her to become exceedingly dangerous with both pronounced psychopathic traits as well as truly horrifying inability to control her impulses, and I doubt we'll ever know what it was.
    I do agree that there is something there with the way she wants to protect children; it does indicate perhaps that she either witnessed or was victimized at some point in her childhood. I do think her overall profile is also notable for this over-the-top persona of being a tough and intimidating person; it is suggestive of some sort of over-compensation for a history of vulnerability. If she was abused as a child by either a party in the home or outside the home, I can easily see her refusing to disclose this event, as it isn't consistent with her projected self-image. She never wants to be seen as as victim.
    The beef with Rose West is the only funny part of this story. I agree that picking this fight was likely a play for power, but she picked Rose because Rose abused and killed her own children.

    I think that something happened to her when she was younger. I remember reading or hearing from somewhere that when you are assaulted you tend to go 1 of 2 ways, you become a recluse or you become a sexual deviant. It makes sense why it is easy to fall for this chick because she had to learn to play on with her strengths which was her charm. The 3 unfortunate souls that didn't recognize that before she murdered them didn't even get a chance to put 2 and 2 together. I am in no way making an excuse for her, I'm saying this is how serial killers come to be. I'm coming to learn if we just loved each other more and set our differences aside, we could make the world a better place but humans will be humans.

    I love how you always mention their zodiac as well. I personally don't do anything with zodiacs, don't really care for them but I think it's a cool small detail for your subscribers who are interested in it. might be interesting to them to see if a certain sign keeps reoccurring

    I think that Joanne had hormonal problems. Her behavior suddenly changed right when she would have started puberty. As she went through her teenage years, when hormones are typically crazy, she becomes worse. Yet when she unexpectedly became pregnant, she suddenly stabilized. After the baby was born; bam, right back to crazy town. When the next pregnancy came, the same thing happened.
    It would be fascinating to have an Endocrinologist study this woman.

      I have a friend that has this condition, since I was little, I was never scared of her /she never threatend me, many times I saw her switch flip (not to this extent), for years her mum and drs just did nothing just labelled her wild,violent vicious & vile, which simply wasn't true ,the only time she had peace and full control, so calm was when she was pregnant, she suffered so much but after her second pregnancy and a second opinion she got her diagnosis and the help she needs and now is who she was always meant to be balanced

    • @bluewolf993
      @bluewolf993 Před 2 lety

      It’s actually pretty common which is why so many women have trouble using hormone based birth control like the pill. I could never personally use anything hormonal and love my copper IUD! The best I’ve ever felt in my life was when I was pregnant… except for the nausea, vomiting, back pain, sore feet, etc. lol

    I'm not deffending Joanne Dennehys actions here, but something was done to her in some point of her life, wich made her a disturbed killer. It's 2021 now, so let's forget about all that "evil" bullshit.

      Even if she was sexually abused or something like that happened to her, you don't become a killer, lot of women get assaulted, harassed but they don't go around murdering people, she was sadistic by nature and that incident was just a trigger

    Joann may have targeted RoseMary because Joann seemed to want to protect children while RoseMary and her husband actually killed one of their own daughters and abused all of their children.

    Just conjecture, but I wonder if the reason she targeted men specifically with dogs is because a male predator (as you suggested might have related to her previous trauma) might have used a dog as a lure before sexually assaulting her.
    Sad story. I'm relieved that some of her victims survived and hope they are doing well

      Love your videos. Didn't love the beginning of this one though due to the fact that she was clearly assaulted. She was 13 with an 18 year old. That's not consensual no matter what. She was groomed and assaulted by a legal aged adult. I'd guess that wasn't the start of her assaults. Please make sure that's always the story line. It's important. Especially when you have a platform (ever growing 😉). Children can't have "a relationship" with adults. When we use language like saying they were in a relationship with an adult it normalizes it.
      I'm loving your videos and just found you a few days ago. Been bing watching! Love the depth you go into with thinking and clearly your depth of research.

    God i remember dating a 21 yr old wen i was 14 n he asked my parents to marry me w/o even asking me! My mom said absofuckinlutley not, but my sick ass dad took him behind my moms back gave his consent & helped look for states where the age legally allowed was 14 n only needed one parents permission. They then approached me n wen i said no i was made to leave n move in w/ my grandma. The whole relationship my bf was pressuring me to get pregnant! My father said he wanted a secure future for me n bc he was a marine etc dad thought id be taken care of n he n my mom could be child free to do what they wanted lmao so yea the most bizarre things can happen w/o anyone's knowledge n fuck you up.

    I really don't think it has anything to do with her dad. I don't get that from her. There could have been abuse by an older man but it didn't have to be her father. She could have had uncles and the like. I just don't think it was her dad. And didn't she start skipping school? Could have been a teacher.
