Awesome video I love all of your post, I have gone way back to look at some of your older video and it have been very helpful. As far as the route I'm using a Garmin 850, but it would have been nice if dodge would have added that feature.

    Trailer specification input is listed under 2022 enhancements for UConnect. We just ordered a 3500, but neither the dealer or UConnect customer service could answer the question of where you input the height/width/length for the trailer. UConnect didn’t even understand what I was asking. Been using a Rand McNally for RV’s for years and was hoping to get away from that, but looks like it may not have been added as advertised.

    For my Reese I placed duct tape in the middle of the hitch stripe down. Then use a gooseneck hook up helper from Jeffers Pets this works well for a one person hookup. You align the helper with the Tape line using your rear view mirror and it is close once the helper falls or is close to falling. works well for me.

    They are way underrated. Lots of people in RV parks using similar setups. Most people add air bags for comfort and ride quality. You could also go with a kelderman setup. Truck can handle that weight no problem. The transmission in the 2500 is the real weak link in the setup. Mine actually seems to like having weight and working over being empty.

    The truck looks level! Ram needs to do something about their payload deficit with their 3/4 ton Diesel trucks! The problem with the Ram air suspension is, when equipped, the system does take away from the payload! You're better off not going with the air suspension in a Ram 2500 Diesel.

    • @jimmy450r
      @jimmy450r Před 2 lety +22

      The problem is the vehicle classification. To keep the 2500 a class 2b they have to neuter the payload on paper. If DOT changed the 2b class to 12k that same 2500 would have 4k payload. Ram 2500 and 3500 standard share same motor, trans, frame, axles, breaks and tires (only difference is coils vs leafs) Ram rates the 2500 axle at 6k but AAM rates it at 10k. 2500's are grossly underrated!

    • @sonsofliberty3081
      @sonsofliberty3081 Před 2 lety +2

      @@jimmy450r no, the 2500 has less torque, same motor but just not turned up. This also allows them to use a cheaper transmission in the 68rfe instead of the aisn. The 68rfe is a fine Trans but you don't want to turn up the power on the motor AND every time you tow you have to have the tow haul mode on. This is because 5th and 6th in the rfe are overdrive gears that have a lighter clutch. The reason for this is that it shifts softer while not towing. If the mode is on it will hold 4th gear or lower during a hard pull. The motor has plenty of power to hold 5th or even 6th, it's only to get more life out of the Transmission. You will slip the clutch and tear it out of 5th gear and that requires you to remove the entire transmission unbolted from the motor, a new main seal, new transmission fluid, and rebuilding 5th and 6th gear because 6th would have started to ware and you may as well do it now than later.

I'm guessing I could beef up the suspension on my 2500 to tow the 5er but man, once you tow with a dually........................... I was wondering how you like your goosebox? • @BtRct
    @BtRct Před 2 lety +5

    My 2006 F250 6.0 crew cab Lariat 4x4 had more payload capacity than that (2,396 lbs). Ram is really behind the curve. I thought that new truck would be somewhere in the 3,000 lb range. You are lucky to tow a 35 ft travel trailer with that truck, forget any 5th wheel.

    • @tex_gil117
      @tex_gil117 Před 2 lety +4

      Your 2006 F250 also weighed less than the Ram. That's literally the only thing that's taken into account on all these figures. Truck weighs more, it tows less (with exception of diesels towing a bit more) and payload is less. Doesn't mean it's not capable of doing it. My 2022 Ram is a gas and hauls 860lbs more. They share the same exact frame, 5 link suspension, and tires. The hemi is def not stronger than the Cummins. So again, all about weight.

    • @HalfCrazy520
      @HalfCrazy520 Před 2 lety

      @@tex_gil117 And about HOW they weigh the trucks for that payload sticker. Before the options and without fuel? No spare tire and jack? The only way to really KNOW what your payload is on a 250/2500 is to fill it with fuel and DEF, put everything in it and under the seat that you usually carry with you, put you and your wife in it, and WEIGH IT. My Ram 2500 Cummins weighs 8250. Subtract that from the GVWR of 10,000 lbs and you have 1750 lbs for payload. Put 2 people in the back seat and now it's 1500 lbs or less...
      Options are weight. Power back window, power sunroof, heated and air conditioned seats, DVD players... all the weight of the options reduces the payload. How much does a 20,000 lb rated 5th wheel hitch weigh? That comes off the payload rating too. The truck can only legally weigh 10,000 lbs.

The hitch, passengers and a fuel must be subtracted from the payload.....not to mention all the stuff in the trailer. That is the amount of downward weight on the bed of the truck ( or the hitch ). Check the tongue weight of the trailer-if it is more that 2350 you are over loading the truck and really need a 1 ton truck.
