    Doc, I know that this post is old. I have a 2012 FLHTK that 2 days ago I did maintenance on. I cleaned everything and applied a good coat of antiseize. Checked the spring and sprayed silicon spray to it. Found a easy way to remove and install the spring from The Law Abiding Biker channel. The kickstand feels 100% better. I carry a replacement spring in my tool bag. I'm anal about the little things. Love your tips...

    Thank you Doc, after watching this video I checked my 2019 Road King Special and the nut was already loose! bike has only done 1200 miles! so it is not something I would have checked prior to a First Service.

    My bike fell over in a parking spot, one that had the tiniest of grands, slipped forward
    a little and right over.....grrr. Someone else told be they had year that was like that
    so I didn't think much of it, I just put it in gear and figured I'd be 'careful'. Someone else said ''you
    got a problem...etc, fix , this way or that ,check spring etc. So , here I am, I took it
    apart cleaned it , (was a bit muked' up) greased it, put it back, works like magic, love it....
    funny thing is there is no wear showing, the keeper and everything but the spring
    looks pretty new. 36k mi. 2009 Ultra Classic.

    I am going to check the nut on my jiffy stand. My problem is when I kick the stand up or down. Sometimes, rarely it will go up or down with one kick. I saw a friend drop his bike due to not verifying the stand was all the way down. (It was a BMW) I always check the final result. I changed the spring but most of the time the stand will stop part way down and I have to kick several times for the stand to get to the full down position. My local Harley Dealer had checked it and no good results. It is a 2009 Electra Glide Classic with now 31,000 (almost) miles. I bought it with 14,200 miles 2 years ago and have it serviced every 5k at the dealership where I bought it. I hope you can give me a working suggestion.

    • @adrenalinehigh2070
      @adrenalinehigh2070 Před rokem +2

      sounds like the jiffy stand needed maintenance. You need to remove the jiffy stand. (Remove the nut, by hand set the jiffy stand down as if you were going to park the bike, keep holding the jiffy stand with your hand and keep moving forward, now you'll be able to unhook the spring off from it, and the jiffy stand will slide out of it's hole. Use some brake clean and clean all the grease and crap in the hole, clean the portion of the jiffy stand that goes into the hole with brake clean, and regrease it and the hole it goes into again, and not reverse your steps and depending on the year, your torque your jiffy stand nut to the correct torque for you year. It's a good idea to check your spring for any issues. If you see any gaps that are not part of the pattern, change the damn spring. Usually you'll have a slopped up position when there's spring issues, but not always. Check the spring since it's out. Needless to say, you'll need a bike jack for this job.

    Iv found on my 87 FXRC that years of neglect have left the house rounded out and very loose leaving the stand handing lowww. What's my best course of action? I was thinking of welding up the holes redrilling them? Im really stumped and bothered by it and dont want to go with that aftermarket deal they sell. Any help would be great! Thanks for all the info Doc

    How about the dyna. It seems impossible to access the nut on the the wideglide, seems like the primary is in the way

    • @bodeine454
      @bodeine454 Před 5 lety

      Exactly my question, 2005 Dyna Wide Glide, the jiffy stand is mounted underneath of the primary. Looks like a different setup too from what I can see. Probably have to jack the bike up and get from underneath. Doesn't look like easy access.

    Ok I’ve tightened everything, new spring, the jiffy stand rattles, I can put the bikes weight on it and noise stops or pull it tight up with my heel any ideas, it sounds almost like a knock in the motor, but it’s not

    • @Lowcountryharley
      @Lowcountryharley  Před 2 lety

      Is the rubber bumper still on the motorcycle? Depending on the model and year, it can either be on the just stand or there frame.

      It’s on the stand, but it rattles with the stand up or down, guess I’ll just replace the jiffy stand assembly

  • @scottdouglasmaclachlan4792

    Okay, Doc, I just lowered my Sporty with shorter shocks (short legs, me), so no one has posted a, HOW DO I ADJUST MY JIFFY STAND VIDEO, so do as I did with my uber-chopped Super, turned Wide-Glide Dyna, and torch my jiffy stand to more acceptable lean (as opposed to it standing frighteningly tall), or is there an adjustment, I can simply make, to add just a tad more lean to my bike?

    Hello Doc Harley, I enjoy your channel. I have a question for you. I am on a 2012 RG CVO. The flush mount gas cap is pretty, but recently I had the hardest time removing the filler cap. Meaning I could not get the cap to pop up or release. Not good when you need to fill the tank. After much work and finally a prayer I was able to get it to pop up, then twist off to fuel the tank. When I got home I submerged the cap in motor oil over night. Apparently it was sticking and not popping up as designed. What's your take. Is there something you suggest I use to lubricate the inner workings to allow the cap to pop up more easily. Or is it time to replace the cap? Thanks in advance.

    Recently bought me a "94 HD XLH 1200 and the jiffy/kickstand is really loose & wobbly.. Even scrapes the ground when taking left turns. Anyway; I've got me a new spring, installed it and it didn't fix anything yet.. So the first & next thing I will do is try your advise you've just given me.. Hope it'll do the trick. Thanks in advance already tho!

    Great video Doc. I am Mr. Goodwrench, or I was for 31 years. Problem with the video is that I have a 2014 FLSTC Heritage Classic, and the jiffy stand is nothing like what you show. What is the safest way to remove and install the spring? I see how the stand is removed. I have a new one on order from Harley. Thank you.

    • @halnwheels
      @halnwheels Před 4 lety

      This is old but new readers might find it useful. The H-D motorcycle is the easiest motorcycle to remove and replace the Jiffy Stand spring. The Jiffy stand is a unique kickstand, in fact it was the first and H-D named it that before any other manufacturer had a side mounted kickstand. What makes it unique is that it locks in place when the motorcycle is parked on it. What locks it in place is a removable locking tab. Because of this, you can remove the tab, and swing the Jiffy stand forward to a position that is not attainable when the tab is in place. If you do this (with the bike held in a wheel chock) the spring will simply drop off. To put the spring on, you put the Jiffy Stand in the forward position and put the spring ends through the appropriate holes in the frame and stand. Then rotate the Jiffy Stand backwards into the parking position and lock down the locking tab. Now the Jiffy Stand cannot be brought forward again, only backwards into the riding position.

      It is called a Jiffy Stand because it is different than a side stand or kick stand.

  • @tomsreviews238

    Owned 5 Harleys in my life, Why such poorly designed kickstands. Always checking that the stand (which doesn't extend forward enough) will retract and down goes the bike.
    (Please take a design que from just about every brand of motorcycle made)
    So ridiculous
    I'm surprised Harley Dealerships don't offer a dealer installed (screamin eagle kickstand) for a couple of $K.
    Another way for them to rip you off!
