You guys saved my butt again. On my way back from Sturgis this year, the spring detached itself from the kickstand. I'm not clear on how it happened, but when I went to put the stand down, it was obvious something was wrong. I looked up your video, leaned the bike against a building and was able to get it fixed in about 2 minutes. Thanks for all your great content.

Put the sring back on abd this time push the spring closer and close the hole where it mounts then it can't fall off

I have done this the hard way so many times I thought I’d look into other methods. I saw guys stretch the spring and stick pennies in etc. When I saw your video I thought - it couldn’t be that easy, maybe it’s because he’s working on a softail and mine is a 4 speed shovel. After being frustrated the first go round I headed back out to the garage and went on the attack (it’s 97 degrees) even though it’s HOT! It was that easy! Thanks for the tip Ryan! I’m subscribed.

Best video as it includes the tip about which direction to insert the spring to the kick stand. Took less than 10 minutes.
My two cents: I installed 2 after market springs. It was difficult to set the ends in the holes, (needed pliers for one), and both failed quickly. Picked up a spring at HD for $2 more and it was in and done w/ a rachet, extension, and socket. Thanks for the video!

The very end at 4:00 when you show it working and "locking in place" was huge - I didn't know there was a "locking block" that locks the stand in place when it's out... That was very helpful. Thanks. One thing - my 1999 road king doesn't have the bumper on the leg - it's attached to the frame instead. Maybe it's aftermarket? Maybe it's a different design that year?

Can't get any better than that
Edit next day: You may have guessed I watched this video because I needed to change my jiffy stand spring
I was wondering why stand up to remove bolt, stand down to put back on.......duh
Took me a little longer, I left the floorboard on and my fingers didn't fit in there real easy, and the old spring bottom hook was crimped, the old spring was also bigger diameter and longer........ probably thought crimping the end would hold it tighter
Doc Harley said the reason the bike rolls forward a little causing mini heart attack is because the top bolt is not tightened to spec
I paid attention to the effort it took to loosen, putting back on to 20lbs was way more effort.
Now I have jiffy stand that stays up and doesn't let bike roll forward when I get off.
I was looking at my Dyna, totally different contraption

Is there supposed to be a lot of play in it? This is on my road king. I’ve never really paid that much attention to it to be honest. Went and bought a new spring and put it on just like your video. Seems like there should be something under the bolt and washers at the top? I guess not according to your video. Does seem like there is a lot of play. Guess there has to be according to how it’s designed.

This is not the way to do it . Lean the bike to the right on a wall or on a jack stand ,remove the 1/2” bolt and little locker plate and rotate the arm all the way forward and then the spring won’t have any tension on it and it’ll pop off with a little spin and the stand will drop out of the sleeve. Clean up the old grease and grit and apply a little never seize grease, slide the arm back in it’s sleeve and hook the new spring on from the front side and finger tighten the 1/2” bolt making sure the locker plate is oriented correctly and the washer and lock washer are on the bolt and a little blue Threadlock is a good idea. Rotate the arm back and lift up on it and torque the bolt to 18 ft. Lbs. and you’re golden .
