I live in a teeny town of 2000 people. The food bank runs out of food within an hour of opening. Because of this, my neighbors and I have come up with a barter system. We trade our overstock. If someone doesn’t have anything to trade this week, maybe next week they will, but they still get to participate. We all rotate to help the gentleman down the street who’s struggling financially, but has been shoveling our sidewalks. That sort of thing. It works great so far, has helped me get to know my neighbors better, and warms my heart. I even look forward to trade day

If you don't have items to trade could you trade pre made meals like sausage casserole or lasagna? It sounds a great idea, my housemates share fruit because it's so much easier to buy a big pack than a couple of Oranges then I swap them for apples.

I also want to comment on this video as a man who feeds a family of two. Let's be honest, we all have some pantry items/options in our homes (if not, Dollar Tree/Local Stores have options. I don't happen to have a Walmart nearby). Build it up over time. Just because your dinner may not be "restaurant quality", doesn't mean that it isn't delicious, and nutritious. Social media has people comparing themselves to people that they've never met. Trust me, as long as you are happy in your own life/skin, you'll be fine with your choices. Be you.

Unfortunately I found out that some agencies only serve certain locations. My husband and I opened a thrift store and all the proceeds went back into the community. When people found out that we gave back our donations we're awesome. We turned nobody away who asked for help. We delivered holiday meals to everyone who signed up or we found out you needed help and reached out to them. I've never been happier to bring something to someone who is in need. I was later in a thrift store in town and a woman was asking for help and was turned away because she lived in the next town over. Her tear's didn't break them or hearing she would be on the street homeless. Didn't change their mind at all. I always try to have something I can help people with...real people trying to live in a real world is getting harder. Kindness goes a long way because it could keep someone from being homeless or just the words to keep them fighting.

I used to go to a food bank that had shelves in the lobby for people to put back what they didnt want or grab what someone else put back and there was a ton of the same items on the shelves all the time and I'd overhear people putting things on them that they had no idea how to cook something and try to give them some ideas but dried beans and lentils were on those shelves fairly often or cereals like Farina and random veggies like hominey or artichokes. I'd put the processed foods back and basic veggies like corn for people who didn't know how to cook to be able to have and pick up the items i figured were harder for people to use. Im not picky and my grandma taught me how to cook just about everything so taking the things left behind wasnt an issue to me and probably helped out the people who dont have as much cooking skills. They gave a ton of stuff there too, was meant to last a month but I usually got more time out of it. Don't live near that one anymore though. I think they should hand out a little cook book or something, there are usually tons at resale stores for cheap and would help teach people cooking skills so they could come up with more ideas and things. If I need an exact recipe I usually Google it but I learned a lot from my grandma and flipping through an old Betty crocker cook book my mom had lol.

I used to be a teachers aid at a school I'm north Texas that has a food pantry inside. Not many ppl realize that some schools have their own food pantry all school yr. My smaller town of 8k has its own food pantry & clothing center. We used to get WIC, medicaid, & food pantry but not stamps. Nothing to be ashamed of. I was in college & we rented a room from the in-laws to save money. We paid all of our own bills. Now we have a small home. We're still on a tight budget but God is good. I still love videos like this because food is so expensive & can kill the budget.

I respect this channel and its intentions, please keep doing what you do.
Everyone is struggling but a Large percentage of the struggle is not because of poverty, it is because money is used in paying expensive cars, unnecessary beauty products, and even fast food and electronics that are lot a needs, rather wants and desire to live a life you cannot afford. Some people rather eat cheap or even junki food in order to pay for other things that are not necessities. But it’s a message to people to examine yourself and if you can let go of some wants to eat better and be healthier, do it! If you go get free food at the help centers you really are set for the week and a really struggling person will be perfectly grateful for that and will make the best of it.

I like this because it has good ways to use up and rotate out some canned goods. I am not the only one who panic shopped.

I love the challenges but would also like to see you put together a dinner out of pantry and freezer your family loves with how much the meal would have cost if bought all ingredients at once and what you saved by doing it your way. 😊

Add a small piece of orange peel or apple core to your brown sugar and it will soften up again and stay soft. Works best if you keep in a jar.

Wow! Unfortunately, it is impossible to find low prices like these here in Montreal. Peanut butter here is more like 5.00$ for the small jar while the pancake mix is around 4.00$. Bonker prices here!

Same in Australia. But pancakes are just flour milk sugar and egg. You don't have to buy the premixed stuff. Jam is fruit boiled with sugar and you can find CZcams recipes for small batches. Where there's a will there's a way. I watch a new Zealand lady, farmers wife homestead. She has very down to earth recipes too. And a Kiwi accent.😂

Liked the ease of the recipes and the foods. Where do you buy that large container to make soup base? I have only seen packets or bouillon cubes so end up buying the broth but your option looks way better. I tried making broth but not sure it's as good.
