    Well done.
    I bought my Vortex before the other two were available or at least well known. I am in no way equiped to comment on the other two but I can say the following: The Vortex did exactly what I needed it to do. It got rid of the nasty traits of the stock unit and provided a healthy power boost. That along with its known reliabilty and simplicity make it my choice. When I ride, I want to enjoy the ride and not be fiddling around with extra controls. In fact, i stash my phone away and only get it out if needed.
    I would love to see dyno results from these three units. The same bike same exhaust setups would be of great interest.
    Thanks again for this great video.

      @@KREllis-vr1ix The Vortex also has another thing going for it - renowned engine builders have been experimenting and building top-tier level maps on this platform for race teams and privateers for awhile! ...it just costs another $200.00-300.00 for a reflash...
      -Great points on this shoot-out though...I want an Aim from Taco Moto now! 😆 đŸ€Ł

So I just got one in set-up in race mode for $650 without the switches or adjustment knob. With the Yoshimura pipe, my bike rips now. Low end torque is much improved. Great un-biased review! Im super happy with my AIM, my bike chugs along like a 2 stroke. Rode 120 miles last weekend out to and in Idaho City on the local enduro race trails. stalled maybe once or twice but that was purely my fault, its amazing how much more forgiving the bike is. I put it in first gear and idle up the trail at 5mph and it just goes, its mind-blowing. my only qualm now that I've ridden quite a bit, is that i feel like I've actually lost some bottom end power and i feel some surging in the throttle at low throttle. I know there is a software update that fixes this with the tps relearn procedure, i just don't want to ship my ecu to taco and not be able to ride 😂

    Outstanding video series
but
 I have a 2021 CRF450RL. I immediately bought a Yoshi pipe/header and a Vortex. The improvement was immediate and dramatic from stock, but I still felt the throttle was to abrupt off the bottom for trail riding, the fuel economy took a big hit, and I got the phantom engine dieing issue that is known with the Vortex. I called Tokyo Mods looking to get their recommendation on which ECU I should switch to, the GET or the AiM. To my surprise, Justin at Tokyo Mods said the Vortex is hands down the best ECU for the CRF and I just needed updated mapping. I was stunned since pretty much everyone doing reviews came to a different conclusion. Perhaps the latest mapping for the Vortex is just that much better than the versions from a year ago?

  • @kbmotorsportsonline
    @kbmotorsportsonline Pƙed rokem +4

    That's horrible you had to wait 25 weeks to only cancel the Vortex ECU, nothing should take that long in our industry. I personally had trouble getting Vortex from one US supplier, but the other suppliers willing sent 5-10 at a time every few weeks when available. GET & AIM got a lot of traction this past year due to the supply crisis that Vortex is working through. I've sold several hundred Vortex units (YFZ,CRF,KTM) over the years and can count on one hand how many times we had to help out an end user. I sold less than 50 controllers combined from AIM/GET, and the support calls are through the roof. The bugs will eventually iron out on the two new units, and it may keep Vortex from another price hike. :) Who remembers when the Vortex ECU was 699+50$ for the map switch? Now they're 799 w/o map switch! Luckily, I stopped using the map switch after the new wore off, so I'd likely not buy another one for a future build. I simply don't cycle through maps once I get use to one. In any case, Vortex has proven to be very durable without question over the years in my experience. I know it's not the latest controller on the market, but it's still the greatest to date. I believe small dealer margins, supply chain issue, and price hikes are creating the perfect storm for AIM and Athena's GET ECU. I'd love to revisit this comment in two years to see how everything played out. I really like those cabinets in the background! I need a whole wall of them in white! haha

Did it automatically have the traction control on? And this was prior to changing the exhaust out? I live near Phoenix and our terrain looks very similar. After watching your videos I am sure I want the Honda. Test road a Husq FE501s, it felt very skinny and light and unstable on the pavement. It got head shakes intermittently and I wasn't even going over rough roads or highway speeds. Have you experienced this?

    • @BornAGoon
      @BornAGoon  Pƙed 2 lety +3

      The AiM has about as much down low as the GET but the GET delivers it way smoother if that makes sense Also the GET powerband is longer so when you are shifting into second on the AiM you are still in first on the GET.I bought the AiM for myself and I love it but I ride a lot of singletrack and the GET is easier to ride because of its power. If I was racing supermoto or canyon riding I would go with the AiM

    I just bought your exact bike - a used 2022 CRF450RL. My heart sank as I watched some of your earlier videos about regrets and problems. Questions:
    1. Did your new after market ECUs solve the jerking and stalling on single tracks? Do you still have regrets for off road after installing the non-factory ECU?
    2. My bike came with 900 miles and a decent price, but it also came without a manual. I cannot find anywhere an explanation of the procedure for activating the torque control on the RL. Can you provide the steps necessary to activate the Select Torque (traction) control for the RL (the L, the X, etc seem to have different procedures).
    3. After installing a different ECU, is the activation of torque control a different procedure or the same as the non-modified RL?

    • @BornAGoon

      @@BornAGoon 2. Torque control is same as traction control. The reason you dont know how to activate it is because the RL does not have it. My bad. I thought it did because the the 450X, the 450R have it so I just assumed the RL had it. It doesn't. My mistake. I don't think I want it anyway.

      Well I did say in the vid that you have to order direct as Vortex isn't shipping to distributors and explained why. However, this is an independent test and one that was done fairly based on what was in front of me. While the Vortex is an awesome unit that will fix the 450RL issues, it falls short compared to the other 2 units. Regardless of who supplied the units, my job is to tell the truth about them, which I did. In the end, the GET ECU gives you the best usable power out of all of them Dyno results will not show useability
