    My father had a friend who had a shoe and bike repair shop.
    I spent a lot of time in there. What I remember the most is the smells.
    Now there's not a shoe repair shop in fifty miles.
    We've become a disposable culture.
    Most shoes and boots sold today can't be repaired.
    What a shame.
    Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks for the video, what a pleasant man Mr. Martinez is. I purchased the captain's as yourself, it appears the sole has chipped away at the toe, mine have worn to the leather in the same spot after six weeks of use. I've applied epoxy there to get some more wear from them. Thursday wasn't all that helpful with customer service, however I still like the boot a lot. Be well, and God bless you.

      Thursdays rugged and resilient leather is essentially a nubuck leather. Bickmore 4 would be a great option. Just brush the boots before and after applying it. Whatever you do, do NOT use products like Venetian shoe cream or Saphir Oiled leather cream on nubuck leathers (rugged and resilient).

      That isn’t true. Every boot on their website says Goodyear welt construction. I’ve owned the Captain, Cadet, Legend and Diplomat. All are Goodyear welted. Only the sneakers aren’t which is understandable.

      @@dinkthinks3958 after a quick look at their boot and dress shoes there are a few more with Goodyear welt design, but there are a few that are Blake stitch and Storm Welt design. Back in the day when I bought my Captain boots, the “others” didn’t. Good on Thursday to maintain that edge on quality & longevity of their boots, and having that option to resole. But not all are of Goodyear welt design, which was my point. Good to read the description to make sure you know what you’re paying for🙏🏼

    I mean no disrespect to the gentleman, but he referred to Venetian as good for cleaning, insinuating that that was it''s only purpose. Then he stated that mink oil and neatsfoot oil are petroleum based. All of this is incorrect and I need not listen to any more to dismiss his advice.

    • @harrislam
      @harrislam Před 2 lety +1

      It took me 3 minutes to google about Mink and Neatsfoot, and I think he might be right. Thing is that he said it in a firm tone as if of those products were petroleum-based, but what I found from my search tells me that some of those products do have "sneaky chemicals" added to them that could damage leather. You just have to know which ones to trust. He trusted his old stuff, that's pretty much all he was trying to say.

      Since he has to breathe the air while conditioning boots, I think he know as soon as he opens the bottle or can.
      You become sensitive over time to industrial chemicals. And he can smell an old boot and see how the leather cracks with these chemicals.
      Real mink oil and real hoof oil (without the solvents) would be better, but much more expensive.
