Metallica - The Shortest Straw Bass Cover Kinda (HOW I BROKE MY BASS STRING)

- Some people thought the original video was a setup
here is the cover I was trying to do when I broke the E string on my bass
The real reason is likely that they were stock strings that I was waiting to break before changing
anyway here's the original link

The universe just don't want no bass on AJFA.
🤣🤣
NO FOR GOD SAKE AJFA NEEDS AN ASAP REMASTER WITH BASS IN IT
LoL 😂
@@MrRice010 there's a bunch of fan made remasters with bass in it
You didn’t break the string…you sacrificed it.
Shit bro, Mercury nailed that bass tone and playing technique harder than Jesus getting nailed to the cross lmaoo
@@KrisSchwarz98 You need Jesus, my friend.
@@offbeat6818 Jesus is a hoax just like Santa Claus and The Easter Bunny. Grow up.
@@KrisSchwarz98 I don't wanna debate but Jesus was a real person, most historians agree on that, so either he was the biggest conman ever or he was actually God
@@nouveaumanifesto I don't believe he was real and I'll believe what I believe
to be fair he was really punching the string i feel worse for the pick
Robbery, assault, and BATTERY
I play as, if not a little less heavy than Jason and my guitar picks look like tildes
...And Justice For The Pick
@@StateOfMercury the bass charged you with property damage
I remember when I bought my first bass picks many years ago and as a newbie inspired by him I wanted to strum as hard as Jason and well, let's say they are visibly reduced in size now.
I thought breaking the top bass string was impossible, until now.
It happens more often than you think.
Without fail, every E string I broke while playing was while playing a Newsted bassline.
It's actually the one that's most likely to break on bass.
The first time my E string broke it was when I was playing Harvester or Sorrow, suddenly my bass started to sound strange, when I look at it I realize that in the bridge part the string was about to break but it was still just one, it was weird for me back then
if you hit the rope too hard it's obvious that it will happen.
Watching this video knowing that the string is going to break is giving me a strong feeling of anxiety
Damn, this cover makes me want to buy a bass, really, sounds dope af.
It's worth it!!!
6 string basses with a pick is the way to go, bro
@@StateOfMercury Did you use an IR or something? Sounds so close to the original track!
you should also buy a overdrive pedal or distortion
@@jutlen9436 I actually was considering picking up bass for quite some time now. I guess that's what I will buy with my next paycheck then. As a guitarist I already own way more effects than any reasonable person should, including 2 distortions, a Klon Centaur clone OD and the legendary Rat. I know that I'll have to buy a bass amp, but the effects (at least some of them, especially the distortions, delay, reverb) should work with a bass without issues. Am I correct?
That’s the first time I’ve ever seen anyone wreck the E string on a bass.
What if this is what actually happened during the recording session, and that's why there are only five stems, and they had to mute the bass tracks on the rest of the album so it wouldn't sound so weird, and they only _pretended_ to hate Jason to save face?
makes sense
@@StateOfMercury also they spend all money on the beer
@@StateOfMercury I mean, bass strings are expensive.
@@VideoMask93 Bass strings are more expensive than my house
Continue the song "Korn" style!😂🤣
Rip his back lol
Fieldy plays a 5 string bass
@@monesjones8431 plus he has a unique slapping technique influenced by Flea and music subgenres at the time but mostly tho, his style is very percussive and not traditional bass but ironically enough, Jason plays with a pick which isn't traditional to the boomer bassists lmaoo
That whole cover was Korn style haha terrible playing
@@StateOfMercury do you want me to play it the right way or your way?
breaking the E string on a bass damn
Yeah, I did it like 3 month ago. I was suprised.
Didnt think that was possible. Hercules you is 💪🏻
Happened to me all the time back in the days
It happened to me like 2 months ago
I broke a B string once
You have a lot of attack and have a good rhythm and bass sound. Everything that's needed for thrash. It's pretty great.
Goddamn, I’m surprised the bass lasted through a lot of that abuse. The wiggle on that e string is insane!
no wonder it broke, hot damn. Hitting it hard as hell, tone sounded amazing though.
Short straw always had that bass feel to me...it just hits right
I have to say tho. The bass sound was actually VERY ACCURATE to the track you can hear on the isolated tracks. For you people NO IM NOT MAKING A JOKE. czcams.com/video/nZcgsrZWRx0/video.html
I like the way when playing justice songs you don’t need to get a bass less version
Just what i needed, i watched the original video over and over because of how much i liked the tone.
Bouncing string=almost broken strings
@@StateOfMercury wise man said just change your strings 😂😂 (just had too)
Bass is so fun
Omg its blake the legend
You're playing it hard as hell but to be fair this is also how Metallica plays their own songs lol. Seen them live 3 times and they BEAT those strings.
The shortest straw has been pulled for you!
Literally. Sorry to see that happen. That must be frustrating. You played very no pun intended. Heavy 🤘🏻
The tone is legit awesome
Been waiting on this one dude 🤘👊
My god the tone is GODLY
The bass cover is absolute *FIRE!*
Love the bass...sounds dirty n heavy ✌🎸
Sick bass skills man🤘🏻
I'm a really good bassist, but suck with a pick. But this makes me wanna get better
It sounds very good
At least I could understand how the songs played in bass. Killer dudeeeee
Too bad the string broke, 'cause I wanted to hear it on the solo part :D
Love the tone.
What a beautiful bass
Keep em coming bossman, kisses and hugs
I love love the instrument !!!! 💜💜💜
May I ask how you got that tone? Sounds awesome!
My guess would be boosted mids and very slightly cut treble, also the bass is pretty neutral, maybe bit less than more
That E string is gonna need some therapy after this, lol.
Talented af ! Hilarious ahaha but you're so great !
Dude ive been playing this whole album this whole week so sick to see this pop up in my feed
You fucking killed it too 🤟🤟🤟
Love it!!
Cool tone ! What kind of strings you use, 45-105? And what bass is that? Now do some creeping death ;D
Hell yeah brother!!!! That was fuckin killer!! 🤘🤘🤘
Kickass 🎉
Great One
Awesome sound from a prec.
MONSTROUS
Excellent playing brother 🤘love it!!!
Let us know when that string gets fixed, 'cause WE WANT MORE!!
Dude your tone's so good, mind telling me what kinda gear you using?
Damn that E string could easily start slapping the A string
Great playing! Slap some Labella Hard Rockin’ Steel’s on there!!!
My word! This whole video was a battle to the death between the E-string and your wrist. Your wrist won....Just
Breaking the top ass string happened to me once during live show. Had to improvise a bit
I just started bass and I want to learn this cover rn
@@StateOfMercury it’s going well! But certain parts don’t sound as clean as you do it
I'm still trying to figure out how. You have a lot of attack but I've seen worse. I use a .100 for my E (Eb really) on a 35in scale and I have never even come close to snapping a string. That being said I use my fingers and change my strings every month, so it probably isn't as much of a problem. D'Addario Pro Steels also help. You get a great sound with the Pro Steels and a good strike with fingers.
I love prosteels, though I have to say I've been using the NYXLs for a bit now and I absolutely love them as well. They're both so clear sounding and the strike very well with fingers.
@@ZeGarrepito The NYXLs are great. My LTD F-155DX had them for about a month, but I was having some fret buzz issues that I couldn't correct myself, so I switched back to the normal XLs. I switched to the Pro Steels 2 months ago and just put her in the shop today to have a setup and nut shim done, so hopefully that will correct the bad ringing. Might switch back to the NYXLs, but the Pro Steels are giving me that Overkill clank that I am looking for
Sick
Get some swing bass strings because I use those and they help because Cliff Burton used to use those on his bass so if you use those, the strings won't break if you play either way unless if you tune it too high
Right at the end!!)
RIP string
i'll alwyas remember the way it vibed!
Now this is a Jason moment
Nice🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
That broken string worth it… 👍🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Damn that tone is amazing. How do you get it?
the little THC sticker hehehe nice touch
The heavy-duty bass duty of 2021_2022
hell ya
4 strings 4 life 🤘
...huh.... didn't know that a p-bass could get that kind of tone. that's actually pretty legit!
It's kinda like taking a wah pedal full down putting it through a p bass with more bass a little bit of distortion and 25% reverb
Jason would be proud
How that pick is fine
i need this tone
this happened to me like 2 days ago and now i have to use a pitch shifter because i cant afford a new sted :)
My thumb hurts just watching this
now THATS how you hit a bass string
buy Dunlop Super Brights 45-105, nice tone btw
what gear do you use? i'd love to get that sound
I find that to get the ajfa bass tone broken strings sound the closest
What bass is that? Sound good
I normally break my high E but I broke my low E a few weeks ago bc I was jamming with no amp since everyone was asleep
Roll up those sleeves we're launching into 190bpm
Right Hand Picking
Jason Newsted? 😳
How old were those strings?
Shit yeah!!!
Моя любимая песня
You went overboard with plucking power
I actually had to turn on my sound system and my bigass sub-woofer for this....I hope the neighbors liked it!
Nothing like being blue-balled before the solo by a broken string. ,':)
Hey Merc! I did The Frayed recently; if you have the time, I'd love to hear your criticisms!
Is it me or is this a really thick pick?
Great cover by the way
Honestly, with that kind of sad state on your E string, I'm not surpised it broke (also it being the stock strings). I broke my stock E string by pulling it a bit too much when playing the Lars riff in Ride the Lightning
Same thing happened to me but I was playing whiplash
why does the string vibrate so much
Here ladies and gentlemen: Metallica in drop Z
do trapped under ice on and justice for all
Is that like drop d or drop c
This song just makes you wanna smash the strings
Did you put a low b string on ..? That could be why ?
is that a Dunlop .77 pick?
how did u get the tone
What bass is that?
How can I get this tone?
