The Disturbing Case of Dylan Redwine

  • In the town of Durango lived the Redwine family, yet after a not-very-amicable divorce, Dylan would be forced to spent time with his dad, Mark Redwine, back in the middle of nowhere Colorado. Dylan Redwine would go missing from one of these trips in 2012, and speculation would go on for years, leading to pictures Mark had he wouldn't want others to see.

@@dukkookim8910 I'm sorry but that's just bullshit. What Mark Redwine was doing is not in itself illegal but it does point to mental health issues or at the very least poor judgement on behalf of the parent and an unhealthy environment for a child to be in. ANY judge, wouldn't matter where they're from, would have been rightly revolted at those photos and would automatically decide it wouldn't be appropriate to leave a child in the care of someone with those type of deviant tendencies.

We enjoy plenty of freedoms many others do not, let me me be clear. But you using the USA as an example of a society that does not kinkshame is disingenuous at best and outright lying at worst. I once witnessed a hearing in family court where the mom wanted a psychologist to interview the child re why she didn't want to see her dad and report to the court. The child was 6 or 7. The dad wanted an order that if the child doesn't arrive on time for his already awarded visitation time that he can send the police to collect and deliver the child to him. The mothers lawyer said that when it was time to go see her dad the child would scream and hide in her closet holding it shut to avoid going and it put mom in an awkward position. Without asking any follow up questions the judge denied the request for a court psychologist to interview the child (which is the only way a child's opinion can get into the court record in Canada where I live- a parent can't testify as to a child's feelings and neither can the (young) child). The judge then denied the dad's request for the police pickup. Instead he said "the pickup location will be changed to the child's school, then when dad comes there will be no closet for her to lock herself in." Banged the gavel and that was it. I learned how careful I needed to be moving forward in what I did or didn't ask the court for. How little time a judge would take assessing a situation before making a totally binding and incredibly significant decision about a child's life.

A lot of times in Canada when one parent requests psychological assessment of the children, they're accused of trying to turn the kids against the other parent too. AND even if one parent has been abusive towards the other, the courts will often say that doesn't mean they'll abuse the kids and orders visitation anyway. It's maddening.

Not sure what the laws are in the States but here in the UK, I'm pretty sure that once a child reaches 11yrs old, they have a say in which parent they can live with (provided said parent is safe etc) and if/when or how they spend time with them. Ignoring a child's needs and feelings in the cases of custody/divorce is just so wrong. More must be done to protect our children and give them a voice. I'd been in the Air Force for about two years when I heard my little brother had been put in a foster home. Dad was an over the road truck driver, step mom said my brother was to unruly and off he went. I was disgusted by it. Then I hear he ran away from the foster home and it was about two months before he was found, thankfully. The Air Force fed us very well, great chow halls. Every meal I went to I felt so guilty eating, not knowing if my little brother was eating or hungry under a bridge somewhere or worse. It was an awful feeling. Thankfully he was grabbed by the police in Austin Minnesota and seeing how I was stationed in Nebraska I spoke to my leadership and was allowed to go pick him up. I immediately left upon gaining permission and did just that. I know from experience how Dylans mother felt, fortunately my little brother was safe. But man the story he told me about the foster home he stayed in, which was more like a group home, infuriated me as much as finding out he'd been sent to one. I dont blame him at all for running away from it. 25 years later and I still am pissed off that that had happened to him. And to anyone who has some pull in the foster care system who might be reading this, you folks need to get right by these kids. Much, much more oversight is necessary. No excuses, if you're not willing to sacrifice your time, money or lazy lifestyle then get another job. You better learn the meaning of altruistic because if your anything other than altruistic you're in the wrong profession. Lifes already kicking these kids in the ass, the last thing they need is a system that could care less about them. The way he said, "I can imagine how it feels to a mom when her child goes missing" is the REDDEST FLAG I've ever seen on video. He gets back at her for divorcing him by thriving on how she would feel now. And his shit eating was sure a reason for the divorce, too.

I lived in Colorado when this poor child, Dylan went missing at his father's home over Thanksgiving! I remember that Dylan didn't want to go, but the court ordered that he was to spend that time with his father! Maybe our courts need to listen to our children more closely when they are adamant about not spending time with a parent! Dylan would most likely be alive today if they had just listened to him and how fearful he was to be alone with him! I don't remember anything about the disgusting pictures of the father! If the mother was made aware of them, I am sure she would not have sent him regardless of a court order! Poor Dylan, I pray that he didn't suffer somehow, nor that it was at the hands of this monster know as his father!

Agreed. There's so many cases like this when a child is adamant that they do not want to go with one of their parents due to abuse they suffered by them, but the courts will force them to. I've even seen a case where a judge told a young teen boy and his younger sibling that he'd put them in jail if they refused to go to their father cuz the judge was convinced that the mother had brainwashed them. Even if that's the case, its insane to threaten to punish the child or even force them to go to their father. Order counseling, and then go by the counselor's assessment.

While this was pending a judges approval, he shot & killed his son & then himself. Around 2-3 days after the murder, she received the judge's answer that she was denied saying there wasn't enough evidence that the child was in danger. And had Dylan's mother listened to him and grant his objection, the worst thing that would have happened would have been they went back to court and made it official that Dylan made his choice. And considering the pictures, a return to court might have even placed stricter rules around Mark's ability to even see his son. If Dylan said he didn't want to go, even if there was an order, it could easily have been revisited and it would only have served to make it official that Dylan didn't have to go, especially considering the pictures and Mark's clear judgment issues. @@Nikki_the_G Depends on the parent. Some mothers have a very close bond with their child. Some fathers have a very close bond. Facts are though there are more mothers out there caring for their children than there are fathers. Not all fathers are deadbeats but there are more deadbeat fathers than there are mothers. Don’t want it to be that way but society doesn’t really push it on men to be there for their children as hard as it pushed for women to be a mother to their children. Until society views men and women as equal when it comes to being parents there will be a huge difference in how men are treated when it comes to fatherhood than how women are treated.
If a father doesn’t want to be there for his kid he’s not really judged much for it, most of the time people say it’s the woman’s fault “oh it’s probably not even his kid, she’s a slut. She should’ve closed her legs” it’s basically a joke and a meme at this point (Dad went to get cigarettes and never came back etc). A mother however doesn’t want to be a mother to her child for whatever reason and she’s called all the names under the book and is judged severely. Double standards if you believe men are just as equal as women in being a parent.

Hey Mike. I love your shows and the way you tell your stories. Your sense of humor is the greatest! I did wanna point out that I think this is the 1st time I didn't hear you say "GD" and I was very happy about that. I think you are so cool without all the cuss words but at least leave that one out if you can. Otherwise keep doing what you're doing!!

When Dylan’s father is interviewed about His sons disappearance his father says “He was the light of my life and he “meant” everything to me” he uses the past tense, (as well as crocodile tears). Has anyone else noticed the truth slipping out even slightly in other interviews covered by TC?

At 13:39, when asked if he knows where his son is, his head nods subconsciously even while his mouth is saying "No, I don't." Dude's a terrible liar, honestly.

Past tense can be suspicious but it’s not always the be all to tell all. I went missing for a week and my mother spoke about me in the past tense to the police. Am I dead or did she abuse me? No, she just spoke in the past tense because she believed personally if I went missing that I would’ve killed myself due to mental illness. Depends on the individual circumstance really. In this circumstance however it is highly suspicious because it’s a child.

Dad's interview: he WAS the light of my life. Meaning dad knew he was gone. Someone who had nothing to do with the disappearance would say " he IS the light of my life."

Children should NEVER be forced to spend time with a family member if they don't want to. Kids have excellent instincts; if they strongly oppose to spending alone time with a parent, that should be honored. Period.
Edit: To clarify, I am talking about a child who is deeply uncomfortable with a parent's behavior. I have seen this a lot, where a parent is abusive but still has at least partial custody or visitation. A child should always be allowed to say no to visits when they feel unsafe. I made that comment in the context of this video we all watched.
