i love people who call themselves "rap fans" losing their shit when they discover what rock is
I mostly listen to rap but there are a few rock songs I listen to.
@@llClassifiedll With that I just mean that people just don't come close to comprehend what rock is before digging into it
@@natl5692 i still dont know honestly. But I lately I’ve been listening to:
AC⚡️DC - it’s a long way to the top
Norman Greenbaum - Spirit in the sky
Rolling Stone - Sympathy for the devil.
Sym for the devil is one of my favorite rn I first heard it on Black Ops 1 campaign and fw the beat. Now that I’m older I really started listening to the lyrics, I can understand it and I like how its speaking from the villain (Devil) perspective.
AC⚡️DC it’s a long way to the top (if you want to rock n roll) I heard it first when I watch School of Rock. I like the beat and everything
Spirit in the sky I heard it on many movies like longest yard but now I finally added it to my playlist.
But tbh what Rock (or heavy metal) is to White people, is what Hip hop is to Black people in some ways. As far as drugs, sex, getting hype, making you wild, etc.

You just summed up the way we all felt when it dropped back in 87 and it still kicks ass today.
I was 16 and worked at a music store when this album dropped. I got off work that afternoon and my car was a thousand degrees from sitting in the sun. I rolled down my windows, popped this CD in, cranked it up and headed for the lake. Everyone was blown away. The next day, you couldn't find a copy of it in town it sold out. Every time I hear this song, it takes me right back to that summer. Good times.

I couldn’t imagine being a teen and listening to appetite for destructions amidst the backdrop of hair metal bands in 1987
It was Awesome times !!! 😊
Damn straight it was awesome! This is my fav album of all time
I was 13 when it came out. Saw Jungle on MTV. Blew my mind. My dad walked into the room, took one look at Slash, looked at me and walked out shaking his head.
I was 12, it was truly wonderful times for music
Well from someone who was there it was a shot of life. All these other piss weak bands like poison and motley crue were just shit, and they were getting all this airplay. Then Guns n roses came along with real street rock and man we knew finally this was the band we'd been waiting for.
I know a lot gets written about the 80s as this legendary music decade but I can tell you now half was awesome and the other half was absolute shit.
Just imagine this is the first song from their first album. Talk about coming out with a banger right out the gate.
Nearly 3.5 decades later and this song's intro still gets me pumped!

@@smokedoutsky7249 "GN'R Lies" was released after "Appetite for Destruction" in 1988. The first four songs were previously released on their first EP "Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide" The second half of this album included three new acoustic songs and an acoustic version of "You're Crazy"
No band will ever get a better start on their debut album. The absolute perfect album one track one.
I bought this album back when I was a teenager based on the recommendation of a couple of friend and that original cover artwork. Welcome to the Jungle started and I instantly knew I made a good decision.
Just hearing you say, “okay Slash” made me smile. It’s sinking in. Truly mind blowing, isn’t it?

@Hoodie got The uzi try telling that to my kids or my nephew and niece
When A el Rose got off the bus in LA, a homeless man said, "welcome to the jungle, now you're gonna die". That is where the song received its birth.
I never knew that.
The video shows him with a hay straw in his mouth
It’s was when he got off the bus in the Bronx, not LA that a homeless man said that to him.
No he was hitch hiking in new York with a buddy of his then a homeless guy said it
@@cherylhurst7093 axl Said it happened in St Louis when I saw GNR there. It likely never really happened.
Someone has probably already made this comment, but Axl said that this was inspired by an old man who greeted him as he got off the bus one one but literally saying to him "Welcome to the jungle. You gonna die." True or not it makes a good story.
And was cackling hysterically while he said it. Just want you want to hear when you haven't even gotten out of the bus station parking lot yet!
Oh yes and that story only makes the song even better. The best version of the story gotta be the introduction before the song by Axl at the Ritz gig 1988!
"...That's a true story, that ain't no lie"
You are SO AWESOME!! Your reactions are fantastic, and genuine, and my generation thanks you for opening your generation’s eyes and ears to the amazing music they may not otherwise ever experience 😘

Axl Rose is the singer
Slash is the lead guitarist.
Duff Mckagan is the bassist
Izzy stradlin is the rhythm guitarist
Steven Adler is the drummer
WAS the drummer. Steven Adler was the drummer. His heroin use got out of control for a bit. Too bad Axl can't scream like a banshe any more. The man could sing while running at a full sprint! Then his ego got outta control & his band broke up.

This album is raw, brutal, visceral and most of all, real.. the last RnR masterpiece. Represents an era and its members like nothing else ever will.
I think the album before Rock n Roll was buried was Dr Feelgood, which is also one of the best Rock albums IMO
Nirvana's "Nevermind" and "In Utero" were also rock & roll game-changers in the early-mid 90s. Hair metal wasn't the end of rock & roll. Pearl Jam's "Ten" also blew open the doors when it came out.
Last great rock album is Use your illusion for me. Legit a handful of masterpieces on there

By the way Axel was one of the first to ever support rap.... he insisted in getting rap groups on opening acts. This guys helps every one he finds talented
Not exactly true. Yes Axl supported rap and did want NWA to open for GnR but they never did, neither did any rap group or artist.
What, Axle, one of the biggest egos on this planet?
Debbie Harry and the rest of Blondie were enthusiastic supporters and fans of rap many years earlier, but yeah, Axl was also an early public fan. I think both we pretty in tune with their local urban scene and understood that they were seeing an important new genre emerge.

Let's face it, full album reaction
Even to this day whenever I play Appetite For Destruction I still get that same feeling of awe that I got when I first heard the album.
Yep. Life changing. I was a little, straight-laced 17 year old white girl in the suburbs when this album came out. Things changed after that. Welcome to the Jungle indedd.
I remember feeling like you when I first heard this when it was released. I Think I was 15. Totally blown away
Those of us that grew up in the 80's and 90's are always right when it comes to music...
You've got a LOT of good music ahead of you if you keep listening to the recommendations.
This is the song that broke GNR out. MTV had sworn not to play any GNR due to the controversy over the album art and the negative image of the band. Somebody at Geffen records got MTV to play it at midnight since MTV figured nobody would be watching it, but before they knew it, MTV was getting blown up with requests to play Welcome to the Jungle. The rest, as they say, is history.
Dude, I can only imagine this is how I reacted to hearing this song for the first time!! Shock and awe, and losing yourself in it. I love this!
I always love seeing the inner headbanger in someone come out. Just takes the right song.
Slash is amazing cuz even though he could shred with the best of em, he plays whats best for he song, what sounds good, rather then how many notes can he play or how fast he can play them!
"this song better not suck bro" eyes light up, seeing this young man bang his head, worth it!

Welcome to my world! Raised in the 80s, will never be another music Era like this. We danced and rocked, and had amazing night clubs
When it comes to 80’s music, I have to say that most of the time the music video adds so much to the song. Even if it’s just a band performance, you can see the heart of the band and the song. Music videos were essential back then since everyone wanted to premiere on MTV and your video had to be great to make it on air.

And yet we still feel their influence, even now.
