All American Mack, I watched your excellent video from 2 years ago (The Shaw concentrate) and then stumbled across this excellent video before starting the cleaning process on our LVP floor. After about two years after installation (our entire house), I noticed our Cortona LVP seemed to be getting evenly darker in the wood grain textured areas and it was noticeably more slippery than when it was installed. We have two large dogs (Siberian Husky and German Shepard) and our kids are grown and gone now for years. Just me and my wife now, in our mid-sixties. We dust mop every day, brushless vacuum every day and use pre-mixed Bona floor cleaner with microfiber cloth weekly. Never do we see any soil or stains on the top of the floor, it's all down in the wood grain grooves and joints. I followed your instructions with the brush technique and tried Bona (Shaw and Zep that you have suggested) and discovered the following. Best = Zep (it just cleans better and is very inexpensive). Good = Shaw (it cleans well, but more difficult to find). However, I do like the container with the measurement squeeze device. I will eventually put my zep into that bottle. Decent = Bona (it seems to clean the flat areas decently, and produces what I would describe as moisturizing effect "sheen" on the LVP, if you get my meaning? Would you recommend we do our weekly mopping with Zep, or stick with the pre-mixed Bonna? Thank you sir, Mark Nicholson (Retired) Former, US Army - EFMB, Combat Medical Specialist
OMG thank you for this video! I thought I'd done a good job by putting some UMPH into mopping with a microfiber pad, but when I walked on the floor with white socks I could see that the floors were still dirty. SO FRUSTRATING! I tried this tonight, and it ABSOLUTELY WORKS! Thank you!
Same!!! I hate how dirty my floors are and won't walk around without slides on. I'm literally writing a list of things to get from Home Depot right now so I can go after work. I'm scrubbing my floors tonight!!
Thanks for your video. I was surprised at how much dirt remained after just mopping my LVT floors. Using the long handled brush and wiping up with shop towels made all the difference!
Thank you. We recently just did our entire house with LV and then decided to gut our main bathroom and laundry room so drywall dust is everywhere. Thank you for helping me to protect our investment. I was using dish soap and a spin mop. 😢
I have had my LVP floors for about a month. I have been using a dry micro fiber mop head on mine twice a day and am amazed with what it picks up with just two adults and one dog in residence. It takes less than ten minutes to do all the areas and I am hoping that this investment of time is worth it.
I went through that today towel after towel completely dirty. I am not a happy camper I’m sorry I got any flooring with seams. I will buy that brush and cleaner!
Thanks for the broom tip! I accidentally discovered how dirty my floor was last week when I cleaned under my washer/dryer with a rag! OMG and I thought it was clean 🙄 I’ll be trying this!
Sorry I have a million questions, im a house cleaner and you just blew my mind lol ! Is this zep product safe to use on all types of flooring? Or just vinyl? Does it leave any residue/film if you use it on a daily or weekly basis? is this deep cleaning method with the soft bristle brush safe to do all types of flooring? Say for tile, laminate or hardwood? How often would you recommend to do this method? Will it harm your floors if you do it every week or two? And I know your video isn’t about this but do you have any recommendations on how to not leave streaks on dark brown vinyl or laminate floors? Would this zep product be good for that?
I just picked up this Zep product and on the label it reads: "For use on: Vinyl composite tiles (VCT), rubber, sealed concrete, marble, granite, natural stone, exterior composite decking. Not for us on: Wood floors"
There is a product made by ncl company. For lvp floors it's a cleaner and a sealer like. To protect floor. You use a blue scrub pad and product and rinse with microfiber pad and then protecting stuff. Look in to it it works
Thanks for letting me know. In your experience with it, how does it hold up long term? My main concern would be if it starts flaking or looking splotchy 6 or 7 months later. Also, does it help on already damaged wear layers to fill in scratches and bring back a decent look to the floor?
I wish i came across your video long ago. I am a home cleaner and I've always came across this problem with vinyl floors. But i am getting out of the game of cleaning. It hasn't been bringing in the big bucks like i thought it would.

Thank you for the video - I used the method with the brush and ZEP Neutral PH cleaner and my floors look much better. Pergo Luxury Vinyl - very light color... almost white. But I have one problem... I'm hoping you can help. When cleaning the floors I stepped in the area with ZEP to reach a section, and now I have a footprint... it's almost like it bleached it a lighter color... any idea what could have caused this? more importantly how can I get rid of it? I can send you a picture somehow... thanks for your time!

The cleaner is a *no rinse* product with a neutral pH so it's formulated to not leave soapy residue behind. The reason I kept getting dirt on the towels had nothing to do with anything other than there was still dirt that needed to be removed.
@@AllAmericanMack just because a rinse isn't required doesn't mean it can't be beneficial. If a floor is so filthy you have to keep mopping and mopping doesn't mean you have to keep using more and more product to dampen it. It all depends on the flooring. @@ladyvkay we used Pergo DuraCraft +WetProtect Vinyl Flooring and it is installed as a floating floor. Directions say steam cleaner is OK as long as it is on lowest setting and using a microfiber head.
Most LVP will say to *not* use steam or anything with mechanical agitation as it *COULD* damage the floor and void the warranty. However, it's often so difficult to clean the recessed areas, it *needs* more than just a normal cleaning. I have used a steamer many times on LVP and it has worked well. I have a video on my channel showing it. I won't say you should or shouldn't, that's up to you but I have used steam many times and never had a problem. Just keep the steamer pad moving.

I'm down on my hands and knees and can only do a small portion at a time (using paper towels to wipe up after scrubbing with sponge and mr clean, then rinsing with clean water and sponge).
I would definitely give this a try since the agitation from the soft bristle broom should help dig into the recessed areas of the floor. Be sure to try a neutral cleaner first, preferably either this Zep or Shaw hard floor cleaner.
HELP! Our 2-year old commercial office space (only 6 staff) has what you call "soil buildup deep into the grooves in the planks" as mentioned in the comment of your basic cleaning video. I'm wondering if it was installed improperly. Anyway, the gunk is kinda like gummy residue along some seams. Do I need to follow your advice for the keep cleaning or is this something unique? I don't want to make it worse! Thanks!
The buildup can happen from normal traffic, spills, etc., but can also be caused by using the wrong cleaning products that build up over time, combined with the fact it's hard to get into those recessed grooves. I would recommend trying the method I show in this video with the Zep cleaner and a soft brush. Maybe give the cleaner a few extra minutes of dwell time after spraying to help with emulsifying the deep soil. If the soiling is really bad you can just repeat the process a few times but this should take care of it.
I like using Zep for everything and now that the Floor Cleaner is harder to find on Home Depot’s shelves, will it be ok to use the Zep All Purpose Cleaner? Thank you for your recommendation.

My land lords put this digusting flooring in the apt and it is never clean. No matter i mop, swiffer, use a scrub brush with long handle, short handle, or steam mop. I use alcohol, bleach, fabuloso, santizer and it still stinks.
I'm seeing LVP everywhere now and the majority of people really like it in the beginning but many begin to hate it after a while for various reasons but it always being dirty is at the top of the list. Even worse is that when it gets really filthy, it becomes that much harder to clean. There's a catch 22 with it also. The manufacturers recommend that no mechanical agitation be used on it because it will void the warranty but sometimes the only way to really get it clean is to use mechanical agitation. I have a commercial office cleaning account that pulled their carpet and installed LVP. In less than 6 months they went back to carpet because it wasn't holding up (the office chairs wreaked havoc on it) and always looking bad and dirty, even though we were cleaning it 3 times per week. They ended up spending a lot of extra money because they listened to an interior decorator and not the person who cleans it.
@@AllAmericanMack yes! Very dirty and stinks. Ill use fabuloso and if someone comes in, ill ask if they can smell it and they always say no. I try to bleach it but it ends up giving me headaches from so much bleach. And its still dirty and stinks.
@@AllAmericanMack lol 😂 no wonder.. I saw the carpeted floor outside. Hmm 🤔 wonder if they could benefit with some floor mat outside of this place and keep the floor dry. It'll help with maintenance
I've suggested to them several times to at least use mats at entryways and under the rolling chairs but for some reason they just won't do it. Under the rolling chairs the carpet is smashed flat even though it's only about 2 years old and the entryways are always super dirty. I agree mats would definitely help though.
Damn I'm sold. No more dirty socks here I come! I've tried everything except this method. Can't wait to try it.

I like using Zep for everything and now that the Floor Cleaner is harder to find on Home Depot’s shelves, will it be ok to use the Zep All Purpose Cleaner? Thank you for your recommendation.
I wouldn’t
Where did you buy the soft bristle deck brush
From amazon, here is the link
JIGA Floor Scrub Brush with Long Handle, 2 Pack Deck Brush 2 in 1 Scrape Brush Stiff Bristle Brush Scrubber, Cleaning Brush for Deck, Bathroom, Tub, Tile, Grout, Kitchen Floor, Patio, Garages, Gray a.co/d/0nta4i4
Did u fix your gaps before u mopped
Didn’t work for me
What happened that it didn't work?
😮 wow
Actually white distilled vinegar and hot water works also…..just saying!
Although this is a no rinse solution how do you do a rinse ?
Probably do same technique except instead of the cleaner use water only in the spray bottle.
While I don't think it's necessary to rinse, LoveU is correct, just use water.
Mate a professional would use a multiwash to clean.. Mopping leaves the dirt there. Finish with a buff.
This video is not geared to professionals, it's intended for homeowners who don't have access to professional equipment.
@@AllAmericanMack no problem
I hate the vinyl plank floors, especially these gray ones. They never look clean to me and they clash with anything that is real wood.
That’s doesn’t look like a soft bristle brush.
Looks may be deceiving but the bristles are soft.
My land lords put this digusting flooring in the apt and it is never clean. No matter i mop, swiffer, use a scrub brush with long handle, short handle, or steam mop. I use alcohol, bleach, fabuloso, santizer and it still stinks.
Did this technique help?
@@loveu8910 it helps only a little bit but unfortunately if you cant get into the small grooves and scrape the gunk out. Its not going to do much.
@@AllAmericanMack yes! Very dirty and stinks. Ill use fabuloso and if someone comes in, ill ask if they can smell it and they always say no. I try to bleach it but it ends up giving me headaches from so much bleach. And its still dirty and stinks.
Im scared u would be taking the colour off
You wear shoes indoors and you ask why the floors are so dirty? Hmm..
This kitchen and bathroom are in a doctors office so maybe I could tell the doctors and employees to walk around in their socks lol.
@@AllAmericanMack well I guess laziness of theirs and etc gives other industries business and creates jobs! :)
I wear shoes indoors, but not the ones I wear outside, I have shoes set aside for indoors. I just change them out at the door when I leave.
wow that floor was.dirty ,.
No good for bathroom.😊
That does not look easy to me
