Why Do People HATE Homesteaders?

  • Hello Farm Family & thank you all for joining us for another upload. Hope all is well with y'all. As I (Neco) have travelled for work recently, being away from my family & the homestead I have found myself with many boring days/nights & time on my hands. That has led me down many social media rabbit holes, & one of those rabbit holes really shocked me. As a homestead...& a homesteader that creates content I was shocked to discover that there is a segment of the population that HATES homesteader, homemakers, tradwives, stay at home moms, off-grid living, tiny house living, etc. Thank you to @TheCommentsSection for your video on this topic as that is what led me to the rabbit hole 🙏🏾
Why would anyone or group hate homesteaders & those niches closely related to homesteading? After-all, our lives, especially those of us who share on social media, are all about promoting a self-sufficient lifestyle, family friendly content, & educate others along the way about homesteading &/or bring you along on the journey of homesteading with us on our properties. In this video I take a look into the reasons why people HATE homesteaders & give my thoughts on this trend.
If you have ever been interested in homesteading &/or want to know how Natalie & I turned our dream of homesteading into a reality then this is the video for you: • **TIMELAPSE** Couple T...

People who hate families who are working together to build a self sufficient life and supporting each other with love and respect are people who hate themselves! They really don’t respect different points of views.

This was an amazing video Nico. You hit the nail on the head with every point you made. I won't go into a political rant on your channel. But MOST of this started in the last few years. Every homestead/farming channel I watch are hardworking, honest, and loving people who want to teach their children to be the same. I admire all of you for that. I wish my family could do the same but our circumstances don't allow the physical lifestyle. Age and illness. You should be very proud of what you are doing with your life. I don't 'do' tik tok. NEVER . I stopped FB because they don't know what 'free speech' means. I worry for my Grandchildren and the world they are growing into...

Perhaps, if you have the means, you can attain the resources and employ/lease to someone/family looking to do similar things...
For example, a small 2nd home could enable someones dream and the value of the lease can be paid in many ways... Including a share of the harvest...

Homesteaders are the most intelligent people I have ever seen. Someone who can take a tiny or massive piece of land and be able to provide food, and shelter for their family and share with fellow humans are genuinely amazing. Instead of being jealous of these homesteaders, we should embrace whatever info they are willing to share with us.

Not trying to be mean but, I think most of the people who show hate to homesteading channels need therapy. What kind of people watch homesteading channels, only to go on their own channels to rant and rave about them? I think they may be mad at themselves for not having more ambitions in their own lives than to complain about what other people are doing in theirs.

Very well said - we called my dad a "gentleman farmer" because we lived in the city but he loved gardening and he "forced" my brother and I to do a garden - we hated it - we couldn't even do homework until the garden stuff was done because he felt it was more important for our future - but when I became an adult I appreciate everything he taught us - I watch a lot of "homesteading" channels or something similar - I learned about you guys from watching things like your "meet and greets" and I was inquisitive because you were a black family doing homesteading - and now you are 1 of my favorite channels - your farm is beautiful, you raise your children to appreciate this kind of lifestyle which will help them in their future - even if they decide not to continue what you are doing - keep up the good work and much luck with your future!

I for one are very happy for everyone who has chosen to homestead. I am 71 years old and am ready to get away from the rat race and lead a simple life. Although we had a small business, my husband was also in politics which can be very stressful. Aside from that, having our own business allowed us to have flexibility to be involved in our children’s growing up. We are Catholic and have Christian values. God wants us to love our neighbors. Being jealous does not support his wishes. God bless y’all and I wish you great success. I love your family and your channel. Pray for those who envy you. 😊🥰🙏🙏🙏

Neco, I just realized we weren't subbed to your channel on my phone. We always watch on the TV.... We cannot tell you how much we enjoyed this video. So spot on with everything you said. I think the trouble with a lot of people now is, they don't know how to set goals. They want what they want, and they want it now. I remember seeing that young man you showed ranting in his car on Fox News one morning. I couldn't help but compare him to Marcy and Crandall Eldredge. They've come so far in their own life goals at a young age by starting off with a house that needed extensive work to make it their home. In a nutshell, I think a lot of younger people today don't know how to put their needs above their wants. God bless you and your family.

Most of these “haters” have never tasted a freshly grown vegetables, meats that are not tainted with chemically enhanced ingredients for profit by big corporations, breathed fresh air and genuinely just sat and contemplated nature in its finest glory. I moved to the city 40 years ago and have never found that peace of mind until I visit family back home. There is truly a peaceful easy feeling in a small community for me. But I have raised my family in a somewhat large city and they are settled and it would break my heart of to be near them. Bless you guys!❤

Neco, great job of trying to explain what and who homesteaders are! Most of us forget that…this nation was built by homesteaders. From the Pilgrims to the wagon trains that populated the land from the East Coast to the West Coast and up to Alaska. Can everyone do it, No. But it can be done if you put your heart and soul into it. Unfortunately, there will always be haters!

They are jealous, they do not have the will to do hard work, or to put effort into family. It’s pure laziness, the feeling of entitlement. That spoiled brat attitude. The internet has made our children lazy. I have watched my grandchildren as they have grown up in todays world, and they are so different than my day, and my children’s day. The kids these days move around like slugs. It’s just an effort for them to walk across a room. They have no motivation, no imagination. Everything is handed to them.

You're right. A lot of the young people today grew up having everything handed to them. I think their parents did them an injustice by not teaching them that they have to work for what they want. As I told Neco in my comment, young people today don't know how to put their needs above their wants. I could go on and on about this topic. Have a great day... Vicki.

I grew up on a farm back in the 60's and 70's. Even as a child, it is a lot of work to keeping a farm going. I have been a stay-at-home mom for most of my kids' years as they were young. I also have been a single Mom after a failed marriage. Life is hard and full of LOTS of hard work to be able to take care of oneself and children. I have seen how people can be jealous and envious and act out negatively towards me because I worked so hard to NOT be on the Government Tit. My own grown daughter saw what I did, and she is now a single Mom and felt confident before she was in this situation that with my success, she could also be successful after a failed marriage. She has always had a job to support her kids while married and not married. She does not complain about the number of hours she works. She is a Truck Driver. Yes, and 18-wheeler.

Maybe it's just my life experience but I've found most people who lack the knowledge, ability, and confidence to do something assume it can't be done. I am a small woman and I have worked with a lot of large dangerous dogs. If I had a nickel for all the people who have told me I couldn't do my job because I was too small, too female, too weak, too fragile, too whatever....... I would be a billionaire. The thing that is really troubling about my experience is the number of people who actively tried to prevent me from doing my job because they thought it was impossible for me to do my job. I had people go up to the Veterinarians at my clinic and tell them how I was "trying to get killed" because I was doing my job. I even had some directly interfere and step between me and the dog I was working with because they were trying to "protect me." They didn't understand that getting a massive angry rottweiler into a bathtub was just another Wednesday for me because for them it was a once in a lifetime event. So, when they look at homesteaders "doing the impossible" it seems impossible because they've never done it.

I don't know why people can't understand why it's dangerous to the Vet and Vet tech when they involve themselves in the examination of their pets, big and small. When I enter the examination room the tech tells me to go in, I put my small dog on the table and stand there with him until the tech or Vet comes in. Once they have hands on him, I back away and let them do their job. You sound like you're good at your job. Thank you for taking care of our fur babies. ❤... Vicki

Homesteaders work hard and make huge sacrifices. It's hard physical labor every day. You don't get a sick day, because animals always need to be fed and taken care of every day. Most people don't want to work that hard or make sacrifices to live that life. In my younger daysn with the right partner, I would have loved it. I've never spent much money, even when I had it. But I'm an old handicapped woman now and have given up on that dream. But I sure do love watching you and your families success!

I will admit when i first started seeing all the homesteader channels popping up i thought it was a bunch of people pretending to farm and basically having a petting zoo, however, after watching many of them I got it. You are raising your kids the way i was raised, just using a different word, wish more kids were raised this way

Well said, Neco! The old adage " the grass is greener on the other side of the fence " fits these people to a tee! They want what others have worked hard for and are jealous that they have it, but they don't want to work to get to the same outcome. They want it handed to them, and they don't want to be responsible for paying it back. They are jealous of your family's love and support for each other. I think we have to get back to family structure to change things.

You are so right! But keep doing what you do, people that are uncomfortable lash out, resistance to change. But being uncomfortable means they are learning, and anything that challenges the “norm”, is scary to the sheep. But people like you, and other homesteading channels are teaching, and the more you teach the more is learned, and then implemented, then the norm starts to shift. That’s the way to make positive changes to the world, and the world needs to change! Love what you do, and THANK YOU 😊

You're absolutely right about the iceberg!! There's a whole lot of stuff that goes on below the surface. I think I'm drawn to homesteading channels because of the "below the surface " efforts it takes to live "the simple life." The simple life looks like it takes a lot of hard work, sacrifice and commitment every single day!! Not so simple! I'm always impressed by the family based, dream driven work ethic homesteaders have. The crazier the world gets, the more homesteading makes sense.

The level of the hate is shocking! They are soft and want everything handed to them according to their terms. (Definition of spoiled. Toddler tantrums.) what good is hate doing them? Each platform should seek hate reduction techniques. Psychiatrists should volunteer to respond to people like this.

I'm confused 🤔 how is watching something that someone else is doing, make you feel inferior? They worked and planned for that. It gave me inspiration to keep moving forward.

Deep down, they know they're not inferior. I think they're more mad at themselves for not having the drive and ambition that a lot of people have to be successful in life. It's easier for them to just sit in a chair and scream into a camera.

I grew up country and I was surprised to realize that people had no clue about working in a garden or dealing with animals. Well I am retired and older(74) but I garden, I don’t have animals unless you count dogs and cats. I live in suburb of a larger city. The American Dream is a dream you make happen.

Oh my “the comparison game” 😢
This happens in every walk of life. It’s frustrating. I’ve lived a lot of life and struggled with others always comparing what they perceive I have or don’t have. I’m not rich and have lived many years of financial insecurity. I don’t compare myself to others. I feel like comparing yourself to what you think others have will lead to a lifetime of constant sadness because you will never have what someone else has. Find your own blessings ❤❤❤

Enjoyed watching and Love my homestead channels. Both of my parents grew up on farms and got away from there and never wanted to go back. That was not to my advantage. At 14 I spent the summer with my grandmother on the farm and loved it. I didn't want to go back home. I loved that type of life. Before the legal age where parents were not responsible for you if you wanted something you had to work to get it. I mowed yards or baby sat. When I reached the legal age you paid rent to live at home. There was no free ride like kids get today. I am 75 and have had to support myself even when I was married so that eventually I left. I worked hard to pay off my home and drive a used vehicle. My home is not fancy either. There were no jobs in small towns or places to live or I would have gone there when starting out in life. Also there was on internet or you tube to make a living off of in my younger years. Young folks of today have so many advantages that a lot of folks my age didn't have. Young folks of today have no work ethics. Thanks!!!

Hi,Nico I have been subscribe to your channel from day one you and a few other channel are an exception.you actually have a job and also run a homestead the other one to the exception is some homesteader actually have their homestead that actually support their family. Then you have a whole lot of other homesteader for whatever reason quits their job buy a piece of land and think they are homesteader with their only goal is to create a CZcams channel so they can get monetize as the only way to support themselves.Instead of preparing their land to grow or raise food to feed their families which is what real homesteader do they concern with getting likes thumbs up in order to get monetize. And when you post a comment they don't like it's that your jealous or haters. So those homesteader is showing homesteader such as your in a bad light

I agree with you, some folks who start these channels admit a lot of what they are doing is new to them, and yet when people who have years of experience and knowledge try to leave good advice/suggestions we are called all kinds of names, tell us to kick rocks, or remove the comment, as many of mine have been. I have seen veterinarians leave advice about livestock and they too have been removed. They don't have adequate fencing, housing for the animals and yet they acquire more and more animals. I am one who will comment on what I see especially when it is in regard to dogs. I inquire about what type of flea/tick meds they use, what type of heartworm prevention--I get removed. This lends me to believe they do not give the animals the proper care and are trying to hide it. I have dropped three channels because their dogs had heartworms. The dogs are not spoiled rotten, you(they) don't love them to death, and use an annoying high-pitched baby talk you never used when you started your channel. All I see is feces everywhere--do they not clean any of it ever? I am not a hater, have watched channels since they began, but to me instead of trying to educate themselves, it is more about wanting more likes and subscribers. No, I do not hate homesteaders, just some of what they do, or don't do. Let me stop or I will be like Neco---grab your popcorn. I wish the Browns had more subscribers; they certainly deserve it.

Loved your video, a teaching informed subject. They don't take into consideration the educational aspect of tending to crops and livestock, do they think they raise themselves . The feed cost the vet cost. Keeping them clean and pest free to be able to consume the fruits of your labor. It is hard to wake up at dawn to tend to the farm. Do they think you can put a few cows on a grass field or put seeds in the dirt and it will produce quality product...
There I vented, just saying my peace.
Keep up the good work, love watching your channel.

I remember and I loved the farm. We took baths in the summer in the creek. I don’t have room here to write everything so I’ll just say…. Want something? Work for it. If what you’re doing isn’t giving you what you want, study it out, make a plan and do something to change it. Well, I’ll keep watching your videos and enjoying them while I live the best life that I can. Thanks for your time and for the videos. Hug your family and yourself for me. Looking forward to the next video. Be safe. Love you bub. Blessings from OKC.❤

You have a great voice. Homesteading is a very broad and confusing word. I don't consider myself a Homesteader. But that's just because, homesteading isn't a word I never really used in my vocabulary.
I do raise animals for meat as well as chickens. I grow some fruit and veg. I do consider myself "off grid," which also could be challenged as I have propane trucked in and and use gas for generators. Solar is my primary source of power.
There's a lot of people hating what they don't know. Thank you for making videos on what I truly love.

Very well put! I'm only jealous, I am not able to live the life your family has. My father was a farmer who had urbanized to support his wife and children, better. He regretted this, but saw fit to always grow our vegetables, as much as he could. He would purchase the rest through local farmers and meat from local ranchers. He taught us what it takes to raise livestock and agriculture. It helped me to better understand why a loaf of bread costs so much. We are only entitled to live and to die, what we do in between is what defines us. God bless you all(haters included😂)!

Great video, Neco! In my opinion, the naysayers are just jealous, and none of the ones that you showed in the video are people that I would want to associate with anyhow. By the way, I'm 71 years old and not a homesteader, but I think it's a great lifestyle for those that can do it!
