      Same here. Lily was the best DT of his day. I remember the papers saying Dallas was “Next year’s Champion” and that fantastic first Super Bowl.
      Bullet Bob was the fastest human alive and, unlike most track athletes (Gold Medal @ the Olympics) he could catch the ball, very well!
      And of course, Captain America, the QB of America’s Team. Nuff said.

    Great to see young fans interested in history. Keep up the good work! My top 5: Lilly, Staubach, Aikman, Randy White, Emmitt Smith. Those 5 are a cut above the rest and could be placed in any order. I've got Irvin at 8 but can see an argument for higher because his passion and competitiveness elevated the team. Larry Allen's close at 6 but loses some points for positional value. A single offensive lineman typically doesn't have as much impact as a QB, RB, or even a great D-lineman can.

  • @michaell874
    @michaell874 Před 6 měsíci +1

    Wow! How do you only show a top 3? Bob Lilly is arguably the greatest DT of all time. Emmitt did finish his career with the most yards of any rusher in the history of the game, and the playmaker Michael Irvin, a physical receiver used his size, tenacity, fight for the ball and toughness to absorb many fierce hits while catching pass across the middle of the field, a question comes to mind. Where do you then place Larry Allen and Roger Staubach on the list? Larry Allen was most likely the strongest player in the history of the NFL, and quite possibly the greatest OL that ever played the game. He probably should be listed at number 2 behind Bob Lilly. Then at number 3 is a real tough debate on whether I would put Emmitt Smith or Captain Comeback. I might argue for either one as a tossup, but consider Roger Staubach’s level of success during the time he quarterbacked the Cowboys. There is very little doubt in my mind that the Cowboys would have won Super Bowl V if coach Tom Landry would have played Roger Staubach at QB instead of Craig Morton. From the following year when Staubach began to become the starting QB in Dallas, he led Dallas to 8 playoff appearances in the next 9 seasons, including a 12-7 postseason record in which the Cowboys played in 6 NFC Championship games, having won 4 of them, where he played in four super bowls, having won two of them. I am not sure, but one can make quite the argument for Roger Staubach being in the top 3 Dallas Cowboy players of all time.

    Irvin was probably the best receiver cowboys ever had but not top players ever. To many other great players

    Dandy Don Meredith was a better player that Irvin (all Michael cared about was partying...)

      I know my history and you are wrong. Jimmy Johnson, Troy Aikman and emmitt all said nobody went harder at practice than Irvin. He played hard every game and was as clutch of a receiver as any other receiver aside for Rice. Yeah he liked to party off the field but it didn't ever affect his play.

      @@jlobiafra You can think whatever you want... you will continue to be wrong. Irvin wa arrested in '96 (while he was playing), served a 5 game suspension for it, and then got busted several years later for the same thing.
      That's not "working hard..."
      He was a slacker that managed to convince a few people that he was putting out maximum effort, however the reality is - if he treated the opportunity like Jerry Rice did, he might have one of the greatest

      @@mattthompson8329 ok I'll take your word over jimmy Johnson, Troy Aikman and emmitt Smith 🙄🙄🙄🙄. You do know it's possible to have off the field issues and still dominate on the field. By your rationale Lawrence Taylor didn't "work hard" either yet he's only the greatest defensive player ever. 🙄🙄🙄

      Good to know that you are willing to insult all the other good to great "Boys that worked hard and lived clean, saying that Irvin (w/"off the field issues") was a better player.
