@@bernieudo4399 Actually go back to the early 70s. Dallas played San Francisco in the playoffs 3 years in row, winning hard fought games each time. In 1972 Staubach had been out all year with an injury. He was finally healthy but rusty and not expected to play. They put him in out of desperation because the 49ers had a big lead late. Staubach scored 2 TDs in the last minute and a half for a 30-28 Cowboys win, launching his "Captain Comeback" legend.

I look at the Dallas Cowboys of the nineties as the last true Dynasty.
What New England is doing is great, but the last few years I've been under the reluctant idea that my favorite sport in the world is....ooooh this hurts, should I even say it? Ever since Roger Goodell took office, there's been quite a number of over~compelling games, that a lot of times go down to the last second.
I really want to believe that ther players are actually really playing. I di believe they are, but........ I'm of the opinion that the referees are not being 100 percent honest with all of us

Worst mistake Jerry ever made was getting rid of Jimmy. Jimmy in my opinion was the best drafting coach ever. Dude was smart as hell, and his players truly loved him. No telling how many super bowls this team would have won had Jimmy stayed.

This was a great time in Sports history!! Dallas Cowboys were dominant winning Superbowls. Michael Jordan was busy winning NBA Championships.

Justin Young Yeah, lost their first two games because they didn’t have Emmitt, as Jerry Jones refused to sign him until after they lost to Buffalo in game 2 of that season (After Charles Haley threw a frightening postgame tantrum in the locker room demanding Jones sign Emmitt), and the Miami game on Thanksgiving day when Leon Lett single-handedly lost the game on the blocked field goal blunder. So, legitimately this Cowboy team was only beaten once that year.

Just keep in mind Emmitt Smith played this game and the entire postseason after dislocating his right shoulder in the regular season finale.
Even with the extra bye week to rest, that had to of hurt. Major respect to him.

I remember that regular season finale against the Giants when Emmitt injured his shoulder, He had 168yds on 32 carries and Dallas won the NFC East, And those were the days of that hard artificial turf in the cold, Not like the surface today, Just imagine getting tackled on that with a separated shoulder.

Never forget Bernie Kosar's excellent contribution to this team winning the super bowl. Aikman missed some games in the regular season and Bernie came in and steadied the ship and got some wins, then he came in when Aikman was knocked out of this game and went right to work putting up points keeping the train going. He got himself a ring and it was very much earned.
Credit to Kosar for being a true professional and coming in to replace Aikman. He made some huge throws and completions. I was at this game it was LOUD!

Aikman has to be the MOST UNDER RATED QB ever. Dude was smart, tuff, vocal when needed and so damn accurate. He was my childhood idol. I had his braums life size poster in my room. I was lucky and got to meet most the cowboys when I was a kid in the early 90’s. ❤️

growing up in Los Angeles following UCLA football, i was well aware how great Aikman was. happy he had a Hall of fame NFL career. but the Jimmy Johnson Cowboys had a handful of UCLA standouts. Aikman, Norton Jr, James Washington and Mark Tuinei come to mind
I got Aikman’s autograph after his rookie season. He was signing autographs at the grand opening of Incredible Universe in Arlington. I’ll never forget it lol.
This was the last NFC playoff game televised on CBS until the 2020 NFC Wild Card round between the Bears and Saints.

No cheating (Spygate, deflate gate), no controversial assistance from referees (Assistance from weak-ass roughing the passer penalties, ridiculous “Tuck Rule” calls, etc.), just mentally tough football. Nobody could hold a candle to the 90s Cowboys . The only thing that defeated this team was Jerry Jones

Dallas was soooo good back then.....Offense was a machine.....Defense was fast and relentless and got a lot of turnovers
Some of those legends who played in those days said that the field was like some type of concrete so even with pads on it hurt to get tackled on it

It’s true! I never played any football there, but I stood and walked around on that turf during a performance of the national anthem in high school. It had almost no give to it. I remember thinking that it must’ve hurt to play on that type of field, especially in the summer when it was extremely hot and the roof was opened.
Texas Stadium was rough. I know the vet in Philly got a lot of bad press, but Texas Stadium was damn near as bad.
That was Tex Schramm's doing. He wanted a nice neat clean look to the field so even though the stadium was originally supposed to have a dome but because of an engineering flaw it didn't Tex still insisted on the use of Astroturf. Tex was brilliant but he gave less than two shits about the players needs or health. To him they were just disposable assets. I respected him for what he did to build the team but I didn't shed any tears when he was fired as a disposable asset as well. He was the one who primarily negotiated the sale of the team to Jones and he purposely kept Landry in the dark on the progress of the sale. Tex had it in his head that he was going to get to stay on as GM but he got a rude awakening when he was given the boot as well. Karma is a bitch!

Those wet spots cost them a game earlier that year. They played Cleveland, and Novacek slipped on a wet spot at the 5 yard line on 4th down at the end of the game. He woulda walked in for the win otherwise. Probably the most upset I’ve ever been leaving a Cowboys game. That stadium was nasty, and had no character. Whereas the new stadium is beautiful, and also has no character lol.
@@wesleyantrim6648 it was very pretty on TV and I hated to see it go, but the surface was brutal on the players and the inability to air condition it during the early season made it unbearably hot I'm sure. I remember watching a Browns game in 85 and John Madden was talking about how the Cowboys purposely chose the sideline they knew would be in the shade and made the Browns use the sideline that was in the direct sunlight and how brutal it was for the Browns with those Black jerseys. Tex Schramm wanted it to look good and wanted to sell luxury boxes (air conditioned of course) but he didn't give a shit about the players health or the fans in the cheap seats as long as they bought tickets.
I remember this game when I was 4. This was actually the very football game I ever saw with my grandpa. He was a big cowboys fan but my mom said I should root for the Seahawks since we live in Washington. I’ve been a Seahawk fan since 1994 and a huge fan of the game ever since!
I remember humping through the desert in the USMC while this game was being played, getting updates from sombody that had a radio. Even as a Packer fan this game sticks in my head because of that.

I believe Jimmy was burned out from scouting all the college players (Herschel Walker trade) and coaching the team. The Cowboys didn't have a real GM, and Jimmy and the Dallas scouts were the GM. Had Jerry Jones just cater to Jimmy and hired a GM things would have been different.
@@owainkanaway8345 completely agree. A lot gets made about the Jimmy and Jerry feud, but I think Jimmy already wanted out, and when Jerry made his comment about a thousand coaches being able to win with this team, that gave Jimmy the ammunition to call it quits.
It's still a matter of who you talk to as to whether Jimmy was fired or quit. I don't think Jimmy would have walked away from a team winning championships if Jerry hadn't caused so much tension behind the scenes. There wasn't a GM because Jimmy wanted total control over player and coach selection. The deal was that Jimmy built the team and Jerry paid for it. That's one of several reasons why Jimmy didn't do as well at Miami as he did at Dallas. He didn't have complete control over player selection and dismissal.

No. According to Jimmy’s right hand, Dave Wanstad, things were sour when ol’ Jerry started undermining Jimmy’s power over player control. Jerry started muddling with Jimmy’s business as a coach and GM. Some players felt like they could directly go to Jerry. Jimmy wasn’t having that. And after the 2nd SB win, the straw that broke the camel back was when Jerry said he could find 500 coaches to coach the Cowboys to win the SB. Jerry’s freaking ego sank that dynasty.

Jimmy in his book did say he was burned out from coaching the team, but things went sour with Jerry and Jimmy during that Orlando meeting with the coaches when Jerry felt like he was being disrespected by Jimmy. But Jimmy did say he was tired of coaching the cowboys.

@@conni70 just because they played the most doesn't mean that's the best rivalry. Other things factor in, such as what was on the line. They could have been meeting in the first or second round every year. The 49ers/Cowboys and Steelers/Raiders met in AFC and NFC Title games numerous times to decide conference championships, in games that were often times more hyped than the Super Bowl itself

Life long Eagles fan here. I remember this dynasty like it was yesterday, they broke my heart as a kid almost every year. Emmett Smith was the greatest at making the first guy miss. Michael Irvin was great, I remember all the Eagles fans celebrating after Tim Hauck ended his career, me? I almost cried when he didn't get up. I loved his first down celebration. Novacheck, that team on all three sides of the ball. When they knocked out the Eagles (very quietly) I cheered for The Cowboys. They were exciting to watch.
It still hurts, when I watch this game. Is it me or do players suck nowadays. Look at all the legends on this field.

It’s because as time passes the older players get remembered more fondly and therefore we bring up their positives and discard their negatives.
In 10 years we will look back very fondly and talk about how amazing Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, etc. when we see a highlight clip of them.

Yeah, and we saw how the crowd appreciated the Summerall-Madden duo. There were a ton of "Thank you Pat and John" signs in the audience. At the time, much of the TV audience didn't know if Fox would retain the duo (of course, Fox would've been idiots to not do so).

That 2nd quarter is the finest football I can ever recall being played. Troy, Michael, Alvin, Jay, Moose, Emmitt, all playing at the peak of their powers. Amazing memories.

I grew up in Dallas. This was my sophomore year in high school. They won the super bowl my freshman, sophomore, and senior year. And if they hadn’t turned the ball over 3 times in the first quarter of the 1994 nfc championship, they probably woulda won the super bowl every year I was in high school. Those were good times to be growing up in Dallas.
I remember watching this game when I was 20. Felt like I lost my stomach when Aikman went out of the game.
Bernie was a good insurance policy. He was a lot better QB than people give him credit for.

The 49ers at this time didn't have the personnel on defense to beat Dallas. They were too old and slow at LB and their corners couldn't keep up with Harper. He always burned the 49ers before Sanders was signed in 94. Sanders put an end to that when he was matched up on Harper in the 94 NFCCG.

Even then, it took monumental fuck ups from Dallas and a shit coach for SF to win..and Dallas had 5 turnovers and only lost by 10. Even with Sanders I believe the 92-93 cowboys beat the 94 49ers. The Cowboys already had an All Pro corner before they even got Deion.

We had the youngest team in the league entering the 93 season. THE YOUNGEST TEAM!!! They were just beginning to realize their potential. You could see them growing into this MONSTER of a team
They were the DEEPEST team, especially on defense. Jimmy Johnson would rotate his linemen and linebackers in and out of the 3rd and early 4th quarters, so that his starters would be fresh throughout the 4th quarters.
That OFFENSIVE LINE!! That's all I need to say about them. By just saying the OFFENSIVE LINE!!
As we look at them in the playoffs, you could see them just getting better and better.

And please, don't tell me that if Giuseppe had been put in that the Winers would've won. Steve Young was a better quarterback at that time. Im not knocking the greatest quarterback of all time, that's hard for me to say, bit I acknowledge it, same with Rice being the greatest wide receiver of all time . The Winers were AWESOME throughout the 80s especially the late 80s. Burr their time of reign was over. Dallas was back in prime form.
It was looking so good for us the next 10 yrs or so.... and then......😭 after crushing the best team the AFC had ti offer, in the offseason, the new free agency would begin. Dallas lost key players the next few months, as teams picked through their roster just raiding it !! Our 2nd string guys were automatic starters when signed by other teams~~AUTOMATIC STARTERS!!

Playing under the old system would've meant that the Winers wouldn't have been able to sign Deon Sanders, Ken Norton jr (fukkin trader), Gary Plummer from the Chargers. With ALL THOSE acquisitions the Winers got ti beat my Cowboys, they still needed a very sloppy 1st quarter from us, along with 7 referees making some questionable calls and one HUGE NON CALL pass interference on Deon Sanders who completely raped Michael Irvin near the goal line.
The Winers only won by 10 points!!
In 95 we were basically a shell of the 92 team, but was still able to scotch tape it back together for one more Lombardi trophy, giving us 5 out 8 in total.

Ugh, all I can think about from this game is Troy Aikman's health. More people probably know this now, but the concussion Troy suffered was downright scary. While he lay in a hospital bed with his agent watching over him, he would ask the same three questions every ten minutes: "Did we play a football game today?" "Who won?" "What does it mean?"

I think the '93 team was the best of Dallas 3 super teams. I'm a longtime 49ers fan. The biggest mistake we made was trading them Charles Haley. Yes, we did sign a ton of players on defense but a lot of fans don't realize how good our '94 draft was . Bryant Young changed our defensive line paired with Stubblefield. The 92 49ers could compete but 93 we had a ton of injuries and Dallas was just better. Emmitt was a machine.
San Francisco got better and Dallas got worse. Simple as that.

Jerry's House is a spectacle but the Cowboy's haven't tasted near the success like they had in old Texas Stadium from 1971-1995. Miss that palace. I remember going to Giants game there in December 2008 and just stayed in my seat long after game was over and just looked around, I truly think I wanted to cry not believing this place would be no longer eventually. Texas Stadium memories will never fade away....
I love how both teams use to utilize the fullbacks. In this generation, we don’t have get these dynasty matchups anymore. The Pats are the only one in the league.

You hear that Emmitt Smith had this all time offended line, but I look at how he made tacklers miss to get yards at how great of an running back he was. He is under appreciated. He played through it all and showed up at all the big games.
That's the thing nobody ever wants to explain when they talk about Emmitt and that line. If it was just the line then why did he generate SO MUCH yardage AFTER contact and why did he make SO many tacklers miss.! Half that line was already there before Emmitt too. Nate Newton, Mark Tuinei and Kevin Gogan were all Landry Era players and Tom Rafferty was wo retired after 89 was every bit as good as Mark Stepnoski. Nate Newton once said something to the effect that "people said we were the worst O Line in the league until Emmitt got here. He turned us all into Pro Bowlers." I swear Emmitt has got to be the most underrated disrespected running back ever to be the all time rushing leader and rushing touchdown leader. It's as if people were to say that Jerry Rice was only so good because he had Joe Montana and Steve Young throwing to him. What a bunch of crap!

Yeah but look at what happened to Aikman in this game, gone with a concussion (pretty bad one, from what I hear). Emmitt was playing only 3 or 4 weeks after a separated shoulder injury (the famous home field advantage game in NY). Michael Irvin is lucky not to be in a wheelchair after the injury that ended his career in Philly. I don't like some of the ticky tacky bullshit they are calling today but ya gotta admit a game is not worth some of the health problems a lot of former players now face.

I was at this game!!! I dont rememner the 3rd quarter...LOL. probably relieving our bladders after drinking several beers. The Home field crowd was overwhelming and Dallas dominated them! This crowd was right there with a fanatical college rivalry game..TX vs OU, OSU vs Mich etc etc. Very intense and also very very confident!! We KNEW we would crush them!

This video is a model showcase of Young's weakness. He drops back, looks off a single receiver, doesn't look for the underneath option - and just decides to run for it. We see it over and over again in this highlight video. Now granted, this Cowboy's defense didn't give him a lot of time in the pocket, but still this will forever keep Young out of any top 10 conversation ever, he didn't have the full package to read the defense and to create something from nothing except on often his ill-advised scrambles. Just a very quick one-read quarterback that happened to have Jerry Rice.
He definitely learned to go through his reads, l'd say right after this season. He was brilliant in 94 and 98 and above average in between when healthy. The overall playoff performances keep him out for me.

Most cowboys fans today don’t know or remember this area. This area had a all star class coaching staff that brought out greatness in our players...
Not only do I know and remember this era I'm old enough to remember the Landry Era as well. 3 years without a winning record or playoff birth, 3 years without a division title and just 5 years without an NFC Championship appearance was enough to get you fired back then. The expectations for this team were sky high. As a poster my stepbrother had said of the team back then, "most teams have as their yearly goal making the playoffs or maybe getting to a conference championship game but the Cowboys yearly goal is to win a Super Bowl".
Now look at the team. 28 years since Dallas won a Lombardi Trophy or even got to an NFC Championship Game. Hell it took them 15 years after 1996 to win a playoff game! 15 years without a playoff win! And they STILL haven't passed the divisional round! It's a disgrace and honestly I spend more time watching old highlights than hoping for anything better as long as Jerry Jones is still alive.
