    Louis DeJoy is a political appointment that bought his job. He has companies that make huge amounts of money on Postal Service contracts. He should have been fired a long time ago. He destroyed sorting machines that made the operation more efficient, changed delivery policies and hamstrung the USPS every chance he has had. Notice he is the Postmaster General and yet he sat there quietly and let someone else do his talking.

      I don't either. There seems to be a lot of knee jerk emotional reactions in this comment section, but no real analysis. I don't know much about Dejoy, he may suck, but if he is saying he is hiring more people to stop having to pay the current people 1.5 times as much to do the same job (overtime), besides those employees being overworked, how does that not save the Post Office money? Rand Paul keeps bringing up pensions, but new hires aren't drawing from the pension yet, they're actually contributing to it, so how would that be hurting their current bottom line? At one point, Rand Paul brings up getting rid of unions and using contractors because that's what the private sector would do to solve this problem. Yet UPS has a massive union and they seem to be doing just fine. Again, I can't figure out where Rand Paul is going with this. I'm assuming lobbyists groups that have contracts with the Post Office are influencing Rand Paul's narrative, but I have no idea. I usually follow the money to find the answers to why politicians say and do what they do and the verdict is still out on Dejoy for me. I want make clear that I am not a supporter of Dejoy, but Dejoy and that other guy didn't do a good job and pushing back.

    • @CameronBrown-ph9do
      @CameronBrown-ph9do Před 22 dny +5

      I don't approve of Dejoy or "Delivering for America" but yeah most of the new labor force for the USPS isn't contributing or drawing from the pension fund. In fact turnover is still the really big issue, with most new employees leaving within 60 days. Not only that but they are paying below market rate for labor in most places because they don't use prevailing wage.

    • @amack9303
      @amack9303 Před 21 dnem +4

      This rant is all about Rand Paul and all of his colleagues who have for a long time wanting to see the post office privatized. Big corporations will bid and the post office will be split up between them. They'll be split up between regions and the workers will get paid lower wages, eliminate pensions and unions, all while the corporate Executives make big money, and Rand Paul and his colleagues receive payouts. He's going on about high paying pensions? Doesn't he and his fellow career politicians have big pensions? Why do they always not want the people to have something the very thing that they feel so entitled to have? The post office has a large amount of minorities as employees. Not to mention the countless number of veterans who retire and go to work there. Yes it could use improvements. But do those and let the hard-working middle-class Americans who work for the Post Office be able to continue to work and when it's time for them to retire, collect their hard-earned pensions!!!

    • @jonathandonley3299
      @jonathandonley3299 Před 21 dnem +5

      It's okay. Rand probably doesn't understand his argument either. He's never put in an honest day's work in his life. The last thing he would be able to comprehend is the taxing physical job that carriers, clerks and dock workers do every day for the postal service. He talks about numbers and doesn't care about people. Rand and people like him in power want to see the post office fail so it gives them a reason to privatize it. You think mail and package delivery is slow now? Wait until FedEx or UPS owns parts of the postal service. You'll be lucky to get mail three or four days a week. If you mail a mortgage payment (because the stamp is cheaper than the online charge they add if you pay it online) it could take weeks to get there. And don't expect to get mail delivered for free anymore. They'll charge you for home delivery or to rent out a box at a place of their choosing. If you live in a rural area, just forget about ever getting mail again because you're too far away for them to deliver it. You'll just have to figure out a way to do it yourself. Does the post office have problems? Yes. Are they fixable? Yes. Is what DeJoy doing going to fix them? No. He knows he's lying the entire time, that's why he's blinking and unable to look at the person he's speaking to the entire time. He just wants to kill the post office faster so the companies he has stocks in can start cannibalizing it.

    I do not see how any of DeJoy's math adds up. Start with hiring/converting employees. Let's say, for sake of argument, that the average total pay package per new hire is per year to start. That includes hourly wages, AL, SL, TSP matching contributions, healthcare, etc. He states he has cut work hours by . Let's say the average hourly wage is .
    So here's the math: (that'sfor new hires). He states he has cut work hours by (that's a savings of Now here is what I need explained...That's a loss in my book.
    He cut overtime...woohoo. Overtime is fluid, it changes day-to-day, week-to-week, month-to-month, and year-to-year based on mail volume etc. There's also NO added cost(benefits) to overtime. Let's say the average hourly rate for OT is math again) assuming the 50 million hours cut were all at overtime rate and see if those numbers add up... (that's savings in OT). That's another loss in my book. That does not factor in that the only guarantee is that the pay package for each new hire is going to go up year by year (contract increases, step increases, COLA's, etc). Don't get me started on the mathematical genius of SDC's.

    Rand, UPS and FedEx don’t deliver to every mailbox 6 days a week. If you understand logistics there is your 20% more for labor.
    Also, the entire business is about transportation. Most of the mail trucks are unsafe and we’re new in 1989 🤷‍♂️
    Like all government jobs they have the best benefits package and no way to pay for it. The PO was once the only government department that was self supporting

    Well, then what is the solution? Criticism without a viable alternate solution is just that, criticism. If the Postal System has to have fair employment for its workers and the private industy does not then that is NOT a level playing field. The solution then is to make the private industry SUPPORT their employees with living wages not critize the one that is supporting the American workers instead of exploiting them.

Overtime is cut out for a lot of these post offices to get the mail out on time and they’re letting people go.

    The postal service is still important to Americans. It's not as profitable as straight package delivery like UPS or FedEx but we still need it. If it requires some annual investment from the federal govt then there's nothing inherently wrong with that. The idea that it must be profitable on its own is just arbitrary. Look at all the crap the federal govt is currently spending billions on per year, e.g. wars that the American people don't want and that ultimately don't improve anything for anyone.

      You buy a vehicle that can be driven on the route, maintain it, buy your own gas to do your job, work no matter the weather, and get paid Pennie’s to “cover” your gas and maintenance and taxes on said vehicle. This doesn’t count the physical toll this job takes on carriers. My husband has constant back pain, migraines, stress… and it’s in his mid twenties. The changes DeJoy is trying to make are senseless. He’s never worked for the USPS a day in his life. Mail service is a privilege, not a right. Staffing shortages make for super long days for those “part time” people. Carrying 2 full route some days that have 400-600 boxes not counting packages going to the door.
