Help our people live with dignity and basic needs met. Navajo people are strong and beautiful. They deserve so much more for sure.
A lot of the Navajo live in homes without running water. With being the largest tribe in the United States comes the problems of caring for everyone. A problem that happens w a lot of families who have a home updated or rebuilt is that they cant afford the new value and end up losing their homes. This can't happen with the Yazzies. I'm really happy for the Yazzies but saddened by the fact that there are still a lot of families living in poverty on the Navajo Reservation.
Sioux have it worse. And with harsher conditions.
Much of the problems occur under is government administration. That's divided by underfunding and poor administration.
I thought they do not pay taxes on land or property where does the water come from?? They have solar electricity which is great when sunny what about plumbling septic tank??

Good questions. Not sure if this is owned by them or if it is reservation land. Makes a difference. Hopefully they weregiven a cistern and the sites harvests rainwater into the plantings...

O wow so glad this family was blessed with a beautiful home. I live on the reservation with my mom and kids. We have a nice house with running water, but no electricity. We on the list at our chapter house for electric but have been waiting 13 years now. We recently got solar panels 2 years ago but it's small and the payments for rent on it is outrageous. We keep asking the head of the chapter house " What going on with the electric now?". And he tells us he working on it. It's funny I saw their outhouse and brought back my memories of heading to restroom B4 bed with a flashlight and a stick. A stick for spider webs, lol.. So glad the family don't have to use the outhouse anymore...
What a loving, caring son Garrett is! What he has done for his family and people is fantastic. I’m so happy for this family and their people. I’m still crying, but they are tears of joy.

I am so happy to see what you did for this family. I read about Garrett on Navajo Times. I am surprised that the tribe didn't do anything to help them. This episode made me cry. I am so happy for them.

What an amazing family! Despite their obvious needs they have they don't bemoan their troubles. They deal with things by moving forward. They seem to be very spiritual people and have great appreciation for their gifts. Blessings to all of them!

Read this online about Garrett; The people Garrett and his mom, Georgia, met at the Discovery Channel event have changed his life. He is now attending a preparatory school in Michigan and has a scholarship to Arizona State University waiting for him when he graduates.

I wish they would of horned her warranty and helped her with the problems the new house developed....they made it so quick they didn't weather proof it properly....no update ....but I hope they got the help they needed.

@@robynfarrar278 it gets to cold in the winter they didn't insulate the home properly and it will cost 55k to do that and she has to minimize using the fireplace because of her daughter w asthma
So this show is what I have often thought it to be......just a "feel good T.V. program" and a high rating show for the television channel. Once the phase of being overwhelmed has subsided, all these recipients should sell the homes and move into a well built family home and regain a sense of "normality",

Except buyers tend to underpay for these, either because it's usually a distress sale, or they figure 'they get these for free' and that it only feels fair to pay less.
The show should have done better by the recipients in the first place.
It's not hard to remove the plasterboard on the exterior walls, install the insulation, then put up new plasterboard, tape, mud, sand and paint. They may not be able to reach all walls but it would help immensely.
They could do it for a few thousand.

Disgraceful that these beautiful ,environmentally conscious people are treated this way in the so called richest nation on this planet ,so many first nation people in other countries were and are treated ,so disgracefully ,praise Gid this family got help what about the rest ,this programmes producers etc all have an opportunity to raise awareness and start a fund to help others ,even poor other people's of every colour in the states

I am a single mother of three two are still with me and they are grown I take care of my brother and we own a mobile home it needs new floors PVC pipes and my wheelchair deck needs to be repaired on SSI I can't afford it when the floors go we will all be homless
Unfortunately, there have been a lot of problems reported of this house. The house Extreme Makeover Home Edition built within one week lack good insulation. It was reported that during winter months, the Yazzie family could not get the temperature above 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Tiles were falling off, flooring were peeling, air conditioning broke, water caused damaged, etc. Summertime were reported uncomfortably hot. Extreme Makeover Home Edition did a bad job. I read they no longer have running water as well.
