Yep, this 4 speed auto is slow but the 8-speed automatic in the ETK 800 is based off the ZF 8HP which is in nearly every (except some M cars and 116i, 118 and 116d, those use a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission) BMW since about 2009 and it changes so fast and offers amazing fuel economy for a conventional torque converter automatic.

And also in the older automatics you can see the cars shift slowly and "feel it" you really can't but you can see it shift pause then go and the new autos you can see shift fast and you can't "feel" it shift I think that's a neat detail

Yep, it can simulate pretty much every kind of automatic transmission to exist.
Torque Converter Automatics (with or without a Locking Torque Converter) ✅
      DCTs ✅
      CVTs ✅
It even simulates Race Automatics like the 3-Speed Race Automatic used for crawling, the Race DCTs used in the Hirochi Sunburst and SBR4 and the Drag Torque Converter automatics, with the aggressive lock up of the High-Stall Torque Converter (also having Low-Stall and Medium-Stall Torque Converter options) and their Transbrake feature (Shift, Ctrl, Alt & Space)!
On a more general note about the transmissions though, BeamNG has only one kind of transmission to not simulate: the Single-Clutch Automated Manual one (or semiautomatic or "robotized"). This was a very popular transmission in 90s/00s city cars and supercars and I'd like to see it being simulated in BeamNG.

    My Automatic experience.
When I first got my first ever car, a Lexus IS200, I was upset that it was the 4 speed automatic rather than the 6 speed manual.
But I have really grown to love Japanese automatics and automatics in general! (Not talking about DCTs nor CVTs.)
In BeamNG.Drive, when driving the Ibishu 200BX base model, I always prefered the automatic. Not because of manual inexperience, but out of it's unpredictability.
    Great video as always!

Also, some cars (modern ones usually) have SMART shifting so the car shifts at the best point based on how much gas you are demanding...
For example: you press the gas pedal to 50%, the car will shift at about 3.000rpm
But if you press to 30%, the car will shift at 2.200rpm
It's really well done, and if you modify game files, you can basically do anything you want to your car 😅😅

I think BeamNG has what I'd call "checkbox" automatic transmissions. They have the major features but they don't feel like real automatics do.
For one, the kickdown seems to go off internal loads instead of the gas pedal position, like in reasonably modern hydraulic automatic transmissions. In my real life car there's also an inlet pressure hose attached to the hydraulic control valve box, which changes the shift characteristics with turbo boost pressure.
This and many more subtle control logic features makes real automatics much more responsive than the BeamNG ones. There are also some really terrible automatics out there so I guess it's emulating those fairly well, but they can't all be that bad.

nobody talks about it much because not many cars even have them, but the cvt's in this game are horrible, they seem to change ratios so much slower than real live and none really cruise at under 2k rpm at really any speed, same with accelerating slightly, they always want to go straight to like 4.5k rpm instead of just keeping the generally same rpm and actually trying to accelerate that way

Try the ETK automatic gearbox. It's very responsive and almost behaves like a DCT. I believe it's inspired by BMW's automatics. Keep in mind a lot of the cars in BeamNG are based on cars between the early 70s and late 90s, so I think the sluggishness of automatics is fairly realistic in the older vehicles. Some automatics are MUCH less responsive than others. As an example, the Soliad Wendover's automatic transmission will grab the highest gear it can as soon as you lift from WOT, which makes driving it in a spirited manner a royal pain in the ass. I think one of the most responsive transmissions is the Gavril-D/H/Roamer's 4 speed automatic.
