- Hey Curlfriends! 💗
I hope you all are doing well! I'm so happy to finally be back on youtube. It's been a while!
In this video, I give my best tips and tricks on how to retain length in a protective style. Remember, low maintenance does not mean low maintenance!
💫 Don't forget to download a copy of my beginner's step by step mini twist guide here: curlcodeblack.etsy.com - Jak na to + styl
You already know.... Mini twist. It has not failed me yet either. It's such a underated style, especially when you are just starting out and your length is not length-ing yet lol
Girlllll you know what’s up!! It really is an underrated style forreal, like a year in mini twists can change you lifeeeee 🤩🔥
Even when I had a TWA I was doing mini twists & head wrapping, it helped speed up the length retention process!
Girl it’s my go to “i need to be a baddie but I don’t have time” hairstyle, it’s my “I’m stressed, i need to do my hair as an act of self care and to think” hairstyle. It’s my “i can truly see the health of my hair” hairstyle. I can tell when my ends are weak when my edges are weak.
2023 i want to wear my hair in mini twists more than i ever have in years past bc….it’s beautiful and it truly allows me to maintain my length and thickness. I can moisturize (water or aloe Vera), seal (Shea butter), and condition my scalp (oil) every few days, and my hair loves that for us.
It looks good but every time I wake up with them it lays flat and doesn't look good after I first day.
@@ponygirl1115I usually stretch my hair out of wrap it with Bobby pins overnight to help with that. And in the morning I put a little oil and move it around until it looks good
I admire people who can rock mini twists. Mine start looking messy in 3-4 days
Nah mine start looking messy in 1 day lmfaoooo 😂
Embrace the messy, it’s cute. I braid them at night so they curly the next day and give a cute messy look
I've been wearing mini twists for about 8 months now and my hair has never been healthier, shinier, retained so much length or experienced less breakage. But the secret is going no shampoo no products. I saturate my hair daily with cold water and retwist a few times a week to not only avoid matting but to spread the natural oils produced by my scalp down the length of my hair. GreenBeauty has a wonderful video about full sebum coverage. I don't use any products or put any oils yet my hair has never held moisture better. Cold water keeps your hair shaft sealed and elimates frizz.
Can this work with relaxed hair as well?
Love this, watched her video as well on sebum, and I do the same now. But do you immerse your hair in warm water and then seal it with cold or?
Step One: Installation Process
*Prior to twisting, make sure hair is thoroughly wash, deep conditioned, moisturized and detangled
*Go easy on tension
Step Two: Maintenance Process
*Keep up with the moisture levels
*Use the LCO method or whatever you do to keep your hair moisturized
*Moisturize in sections
*Braid or band to keep it stretched and prevent shrinking
*Moisturize as needed( 2‐7 times a week)
*Keep hair covered at night
*Keep scalp clean, you may have to wash hair in the mini twists. You can spray hair with rosemary water
Step Three: Take Down Process
*Be very very gentle
*Prepoo or use something with slip
*Work in small sections and take your time.
* Give hair a break: twistout braidout, rod set, etc
I've been wearing braids for 9 years straight. When I take them down, I put them right back. I started with a pixie cut, my hair is now down my back. One thing that I have slipped on over the years is moisturizing my hair. Now I'm in the process of developing a good moisturizing regimen using rose water, conditioner and essential oils. Great video, love your hair!
Make sure u dilute your essential oils with a carrier oil sis. Most essential oils are much too strong for our skin and hair on their own and if used improperly can do more harm than good. I would suggest olive oil as a carrier. For every half cup of olive oil use 10 drops of ur essential oil.
If I had mini twist for 3 months I would have a HUGE tangled matted mess! Your hair is gorgeous.
Do medium braids
Mine is 1-2 weeks 😁
Hey girl. I keep mine in for 3 months and the tangling is little to none because I redo the twists that start to get tangled at the root. Hope this helps.
Good point! @@maddiebasketball7597
@@maddiebasketball7597 so do you you do them in sections? Like one weekend you do one section and another weekend another section?
Braiding sections of twist is excellent technique to help keep stretched for us tightly coiled high shrinkage naturals !
You’re the only video I’ve seen to post a before and after of hair growth with mini twists instead of just saying it’s good for growth. Thank you! 🙏🏾 I need to see how much growth can be achieved long term. My hair grows 6in-8in a year with good maintenance but the breakage has been real the past 2 years. It’s good to know what to expect 😊
You have so beautiful thick long hair Omg
Thank you so much love!! 💕💕💕💕
I just took down my mini twist after a month I just wanna say thankkkk youuu it’s a lot of growth !
Pure magical! Thank you Queen ❤
Your hair is absolutely beautiful!!😍😍
Gorgeous!
I love your twists!
Can you show us start to finish how you do your twists?
Never thought about mini twist being a protective style. I wear it because I love how they look.
Really? Wow. That's the ULTIMATE protective style
My fave you keep it straight and simple
Wow you leave your twists for a long time. I'm struggling to keep them longer than a week but THIS video is what I needed! WOW!!
Planning on doing this for post partum, maybe install around 38 weeks. The key part that always messed up mini twists for me was I didn’t moisturize like my regular hair like you said. Thanks for the tips ❤❤❤
I absolutely l love your natural hair and conten Your methods have changed the game for me. From length retention to overall time spent on wash days. Mini twists are versitlle too which was important to me
Niice 😍!! I used to do mini twists, now I’m a mini braids kinda gal. They last MUCH longer for me than twists.
I put my twists in 3 days ago and had to wash already 😩 I have scalp issues and have to wash often. It’s so hard! Great video…love your hair.
Thank you so much for watching love! 💕Have you ever tried rosemary water before? Rosemary water is the perfecttttr scalp refresher! I add in a couple drops of peppermint & tea tree oil in the water and spray my scalp every couple days.
@@Offlineee_ thanks
The Camille rose grease is great for scalp issues. Whenever my scalp starts itching, I apply it and it soothes it within minutes. Plus it smells good too!
You should try putting black seed oil on your scalp and see if it helps with your scalp issues!
@@apricot212 Omg I have black seed oil! I’m going to give that a try thank you!
your hair is so beautiful and thick! 😻😻 I wish my fine hair was like yours. 😿 gorgeous gorgeous GORGEOUS ✨
This was soo helpful, thank you! ❤
beautiful twists!
I just wanted to say that your absolutely gorgeous 🙂 and my fav style is mini braids
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!
You hair is gorgeous!
Loveeee this I’m deff trying these ❤
Could you please make a video of you washing your hair with the mini twists in please 🙏🏾? How to properly wash your scalp, avoid knotting at the roots during the process, etc. Love your IG page I didn’t even know you had a CZcams 😭, I just found out today ! 🩷
Appreciate these tips.
Hey! I'm in Canada 🇨🇦 also :)
Can't wait for winter to be over ❄️
Love your twist I usually twist my hair but not that small but take it down by the third or fourth week my hair will start locking if I kept it longer 😂 but it did help it grow . But thanks for the video luv
Brilliant tips 😊❤😊
Thank you sis ❤❤❤❤
i think i am going to do this this year!!!!
Your mini twists are so cute. New sub here.
You’re so beautiful!
AW thank you Queen! 🥹🩷🩷
Can you do a video installing your mini twist?
I'm your new fan🙌🙌
Can you do a mini twist install video start to finish?
Your many twists are so beautiful 😍
Yes helpful
GOD BLESS YOUR MOTHER❤
Sisssss! If my natural hair needs anything.... it's my mini twist
Do you have a vid on how to do mini twists and the products?
Thanks for this video ❤. Do you blow dry your hair every time you do a protective style
I want to do it but I don’t want them to lock up. Also do you oil your scalp?
I’d love to see your takedown process
hi! do you leave them for 3 months while retwisting in between or no? i’m trying to adopt the same routine rn but i’m thinking of retwisting every 4-6 weeks so they can look as neat as possible given new growth and frizz from washing.
Could you link the head wraps and bonnets you use? Thanks!
Can you recommend the leave in conditioner you use and what oil? Is Avacado, flaxseed or Aloe oil okay? Also if you could make a video on this would help
Do u always install on blown out hair? If not, do you prefer on wet or dry hair ?
Do you do LOC and then blow it out? And do you have a vid of installation. I do the bigger ones on my daughter but i want to do mini twists because it’ll last longer
Love love love this video.
Question do you stretch your hair before installing your twists ? Or do you install on fresh washed curly hair ? Wanna install mine but not gonna lie don’t want the shrinkage 😂 can you help a sister out ?
I stretch mine in a similar fashion in this clip I attached here w/satin scrunchies. Perhaps it can be helpful to YOU ASWELL♡ czcams.com/users/shortsNWSPTMYuCGc?feature=share
Do u always braid the root to stop matting or do u take them out before washing sometimes? I know my roots will matte if I don’t do one of the two
How do u moisturize them with weave added
Can you post a tutorial?
I love your mini twists! I'm going to start wearing mini twists for the rest of the year because I noticed my hair grows faster when I do.
Clicked on your link to get the ebook but I see that the website and book doesn’t exist anymore. Why is that because I really wanted the ebook!?
Do you still oil your scalp with castor oil I mean I cleanse my scalp camille rose braid spray keeps my scalp clean but right after I put palmers olive oil hair growth grease in my scalp that's what usually works for me my scalp stays moisturized longer even though the natural hair community swear grease is bad but hey different strokes for different folks I guess🤷🏾♀️ ps sorry for the rant😭
Keep using your grease, I know I sure do ! Has always worked great for me
Just did my second big chop but I’m not ball head I’m wearing mini twists no flat iron ever again I suffered from major heat damaged
Omg
Where do you get your mini twists done? I'm looking for a place in T.
I actually do my own mini twists on my natural hair!
hello! question for you...when you leave these in for 2 months...are you braiding the base of every twist? when I install these I usually only braid the perimeter but i am looking to install for a significantly longer period of time...please let me know what works best for you! we have very similar hair. :)
chunky twist... because first of all, I love twist and because of what I do for work I need to keep my hair up per company policie and because I work with chemical waste I like to wash my hair often....so it is easier for me to instal and take them down easily.
Do you braid at the roots??
For this set I did! All the other ones I’ve done in the past I didn’t.
I braid the perimeter twists like an inch
How long is your typical takedown process? I did mini twist on my daughters bra strap length hair and it was so matted and took forever just for 1 ☝🏽month. I couldn’t imagine 2 or 3 🥹🥹🥹😩🥺😢😢😭
That is why I switched to mini braids. I can keep them on longer, I can wash them and there is a lot less tangles during take down, though it takes a long time 😊
I usually redo mines after 3 weeks I personally don’t like going a month because the end will tangle up together but I always use water and a conditioner or moisturizer and it really helps against the tangling. I never take down my twist dry I get less shedding and breakage.
Try mini braids, I use to try mini twists but it would never fail to give me sooo many tangled and single strand knots. Mini braids keep your hair stretched, remain neat for longer/last longer and are easier to wash. The only downside is it doesn’t give as much volume and the installation and takedown is longer but I personally don’t mind because the pro’s outweigh the con’s
I’m going to say it. Mini twists only seem to look good on those with thick hair. If you have medium density and fine strands then all you see is scalp.
then add hair
Respectfully I don't think this is true. I have fine hair that isn't very dense either. For them to look nice you #1 need to find a twist size that makes the most of your strands. Generally this means smaller will make your hair look fuller. Bigger parts will draw attention to your lack of density. #2 you need a haircut that accentuates volume. When you see fro cuts that look fluffy and big, those haircuts will look full on twisted fine/thin hair. This is the biggest difference I see in how "pretty" I look in twists. Tapered cuts, wolf cuts all look very pretty in mini twists #3 twisting dry but moisturized hair is always going to give you a fuller look. If you install with gel or a heavy cream your strands will stick together and condense your volume. #4 don't be afraid to add hair. Even if it's not for length, you can get a pack of Marley or spring twist hair and it will give you volume.
I thought these were Locs but they look good.
I tried this hair style and my hair almost loc on me. 😪😪
For how long did you put them in?
I just installed mini twists on my hair today and I am not sure of how long to stay with them before they loc
@@flawed_yet_worthy 2 weeks
@@lattylatlat Did you install them with braids at the roots...and was it on wet or blown out hair?
