The thing is that many of the other songs that TOOL covers sound alot like tool. There were probably a lot of these specific types of bands that have almost an identical type of music. But TOOL has been the most successful out of all of these bands
I think it's more that they've just covered it in their own style really well. Danny's drumming and the the tone of the bass, guitar and Maynard's haunting vocals are what make it sound like Tool imo.

They are finally back in the studio! I saw them at the gorge, arguably one of the best venues in the country, back in 06 and to this day the best show I've ever seen. No acid trip has lived up to the natural high I got seeing that view accompanied by their music.

When tool does a cover, it's kinda more like a jam sesh for them than anything. They don't really perfect how They play it, They love to put variations and little twists at random. Its almost a different piece. A passionate tribute inspired by fellow wonderful musicians
