robbie coltrane was perfect as hagrid. absolutely perfect. and a lot of people dont seem to like michael gambon as dumbledore, but i think he was really good.
I agree with both
And to think Robin Williams was actually considered for Hagrid. Can you imagine if that had happened? I love Robin but he would've been a terrible fit for that role. Thank God they went with Coltrane. Most of the criticism towards Gambon was due to how different he was from Richard Harris (Dumbledore in the first two films) and in particular how aggressive his Dumbledore was in GoF. He was fantastic in the later films though.
The only time I had any issue with his Dumbledore was in the 4th, but that was not his fault. That was script and direction. Goblet of Fire should have been two movies.
He was very very marvelous ❤️
His performance as an actor was fine, but he essentially took a dump on the character as it was established by Harris. Which makes sense as he never saw the films and doesn't seem to care very much.
So that being the case it's where the director should've stepped up and been more forceful about what they wanted from the character.
Two legends...togeather now...
The world will miss them so much..
Rest in peace, Hagrid and Dumbledore..
We'll never forget you ❤
both were loved by all, and will continue to be so. 🫡 rest in peace to two legends
tbh i really liked michael gambon as dumbledore, perhaps even preferred him. richard harris was fantastic, but he was so gentle i cant see him being able to do the tougher, more intense scenes that followed later in the series. love them both, and its kind of irrelevant but ive been wanting to say it somewhere for a while.
emzlovesatc Believe me Dumbledore can be vicious in stressful situations.
I also think Harris only had the chance to work with Chris Columbus, and had he had the chance to work with Alfonso Cuarón or David Yates, he might've succeeded
Yes!
I was looking for the words to express how I felt!
but... Dumbledore is supposed to be gentle and kind. That's like his thing. Seeing him go into power mode against Voldemort - which of course Richard would have been able to do - would have been so amazing.. I kinda feel like Michael didn't even try to understand Dumbledore as a character, wasn't interested at all and that's really a shame considering how rich and deep Dumbledore really is.
Rest in Peace both Robbie Coltrane and Michael Gambon
Same. They were absolutely legends
both were loved by all, and will continue to be so. 🫡 rest in peace to two legends
R.I.P
Sir Michael Gambon had died today.
Peacefully in Hospital.
27 September 2023 (aged 82)
Witham, Essex, England.
Michael Gambon's acting as dumbledore was at his best in the half blood prince(in my opinion).. He was an entirely new character and I loved how he carried it out..
Same. And in the order of the phoenix
His acting was good in all of them, however he was directed really poorly in the fourth film, partly due to the director not having read the book when making the movie.
We talk about how Robbie Coltrane is irreplaceable but yet we talk about how Michael Gambon is the perfect replacement Dumbledore
@@iitsMikeB Then how did they adapt it? Surely the director needs to know the source material even if slightly?
@@ThisHandleSystemCanGetNicked Apparently not. The adaptation went from a lot of mysteries being solved throughout the book, to one single mystery (Who put the name in the Goblet of Fire?), which we already knew from the first scene in the movie.
I would trust hagrid with my life
@Dream Dream Serene 😂😂
@Dream Dream Serene 🤣
@Dream Dream Serene same lol
Hell yeah

Gambon played Dumbledore exceptionally, such a terrific actor. I honestly think that he has the best voice in film.
And don't forget when he plays in anything else you immediately recognize him
it took him a few films to figure the character out, but by the sixth, he had it.
LittleLyonMan your right bro
KingGhidorah5464 That was bad direction, not acting. People always focus in GoF like it isn't the outlier, even though PoA came out first. People also always ignore how Fred and George fought after their age potion failed. Mike Newell simply wasn't a good director. He didn't get characters. He's far too over-the-top and hamfisted.
Cuaron and especially Yates knew Dumbledore, and HBP and DH have the perfect Dumbledore. Dumbledore was always shouting and was constantly angry in GoF. His voice sounds thicker for some reason. But in HBP he was just phenomenonal. His speech at the start-of-term feast was top notch. That's what you should show people when they say Gambon was bad. Their bias is pathetic. They make up their mind, and ignore evidence that doesn't fit their made-up narrative.
@@Ranger1812 Gambon was at his best as Dumbledore in the afterlife scene in Deathly Hallows Part 2. He played Dumbledore nearly directly from the books in that scene, it was near perfect. I think a lot of the criticism towards him was because of how different he was from Harris in the first two films (and Harris's Dumbledore was considered by many to be on point with the version from the books).
In regards to the directors Mike Newell wasn't perfect but he wasn't terrible either. As over-aggressive as Gambon's Dumbledore was in GoF Ralph Fiennes was at his best as Voldemort in that film and Newell got the dark tone that was needed for that film just right IMO. In contrast Yates completely ruined Voldemort's character in both DH films. For example the Draco hugging scene (Voldemort from the books never would've done that), his cringeworthy declaration that Harry Potter was dead, and the ultimately the final battle scene that led to him disintegrating (WTF, that couldn't have been more of a deviation from what happened in the books and was just completely unnecessary). Also the entire Battle of Hogwarts sequence in DH Part 2 was poorly done because Yates left out so much important material from the books (for example Grawp's role in the battle which was significant, also Buckbeak, the centaurs, and the thestrals). If you look at all of the directors the franchise had Yates as good as he was didn't always respect the source material in his films (Ron for example was also extremely poorly written once Yates took over as director and was nothing like the character in the books). Cuaron, Newell, and Chris Columbus were all better at respecting the material from the books in their films than Yates was.
RIP Robbie coltrane. He truly brought Hagrid to life.
and RIP Michael Gambon
both were loved by all, and will continue to be so. 🫡 rest in peace to two legends
I just heard of gambon's passing as well. RIP to both. This franchise will never be the same again.
@@wesker9041 i swear theyre slowly being knocked off one by one like some sort of final destination event. ive actually had the pleasure to meet david bradley (argus filch) and hes one of my favourite actors. i can assure you im definitely not looking forward to his passing, above others
@@huffeyy3916 and Maggie Smith’s as well?
Michael Gambon is such an amazing actor. Really. A world class actor in his own league , if that even makes any sense. I'm so glad he was the next Dumbledore. Richard Harris will now rest in peace knowing the Dumbledore character was and has been played out by such an outstanding actor. Brilliant.

Youre Deluded, Michael Gambon was a terrible Dumbledore
I just recently finished the books and he’s nothing like dumbledore. Dumbledore is calm, whimsy, but assertive. I just don’t get the vibe w this dumbledore
Michael gambon voice is awsome
Rest in Peace Legend...❤ You're the Perfect Hagrid
this made me tear up, rip Michael and Robbie, thanks for making our childhood so much better
Gambon as the tougher dumbeldore is perfection , Harris as the softer calmer sorcerer supreme was aslo perfect
RIP to both of these amazing actors now :(
Rest in peace to 2 legends in my book, the perfect hagrid and the perfect Dumbledore.
i fully agree. both were loved by all, and will continue to be so. 🫡 rest in peace to two legends

Geez, the real world chemistry and camaraderie between these two is magnificent to behold. Rest peacefully dear Robbie.
Both reunited in heaven! RIP Michael Gambon and Robbie Coltrane!
My father passed this year...he was hagrid. A man who at 6 foot 7" loved Disney movies and was always kind to children and animals. He saw the light in you, just like hagrid. A huge man with a heart of fabrige... I watch Harry potter to see my dad again....
Damn what a picture. These two amazing actors with a big impact to my childhood now beeing dead 😔. May them both rest in peace.
"Unless you're an orange, obviously." I lost my shit. Literally LOL'd
The way they both interact kind of reminds me of how great friends Hagrid and Dumbledore actually were.
Rest in Peace Robbie 🕊️♥️
RIP both
Rest in Peace, dear Hagrid and Professor Dumbledore 💔🙏🪄
Michael gambon has a really deep voice
R.I.P both of these Legends ❤❤

RIP to them both
So sad 😢both have now left us
Now both these legends are gone 😢
Gambon's hands. Hands of a clockmaker, or a conductor. Those iron lungs, and that huge, crooked smile and those thin, powerful fingers tapering away like smoke. he is a very lovely man.
This is the best-written CZcams comment I've ever seen
Give those old guys a beard !!
I loved Gambon as Dumbledore
May they both rest in peace 🪦⚰️😢🪄
The replacing Dumbledore after Gambon has died.
Gambon is the replacement Dumbledore, after Richard Harris’ death in 2002
but both were loved by all, and will continue to be so. 🫡 rest in peace to two legends
RIP to both of them

RIP😢
.
Fly high , Robbie ❣
⚘ 🕊
This was ne hits different now 😖🫶🏼
both were loved by all, and will continue to be so. 🫡 rest in peace to two legends
It’s funny that Robbie had such a different interpretation of what Hagrid sounded like, and Rowling probably heard him while writing Hagrid. I think Robbie and Alan were the ones she handpicked for the films, it’s no wonder they’re universally called “the best casting picks”.
Alan Rickman didn’t just play Snape well, He WAS Snape just like Robbie Coltrane didn’t just play Hagrid well, He WAS Hagrid
both were loved by all, and will continue to be so. 🫡 rest in peace to two legends
It's so heartbreaking to know so many Harry Potter legends have left us. Michael Gambon, Robbie Coltrane, Richard Harris, Alan Rickman, John Hurt and Helen McCrory, just off the top of my head. So sad.
Two legendary actors. It was an honor to see these two in action.
It's like they are born for this role
RIP Sir Michael Gambon (October 19, 1940 - September 27, 2023), aged 82
And
RIP Robbie Coltrane (March 30, 1950 - October 14, 2022), aged 72
You both will be remembered as legends.
Coltrane was born to play Hagrid. Michael Gambon was a worthy successor for the role of Dumbledore.
I don't know why, but when Gambon says "apple" at 4.06 it makes me laugh every single time.
R.IP Robbie Coltrane
Can’t believe they’re no longer with us, such talented guys, we’ve been blessed!
RIP Michael Gambon. Both incredible.
both were loved by all, and will continue to be so. 🫡 rest in peace to two legends
robbie and michael look like best friends and its soo cute :)
I always imagined both of their characters and Minerva would keep me safe a child ❤
This breaks my hurt. These two made my childhood and now they're both gone. It feels like only yesterday i was a kid watching HP and they were still here ages from leaving this world 😔
Goodbye Robbie ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
and now we say farewell to Gambon as well.
both were loved by all, and will continue to be so. 🫡 rest in peace to two legends
Rest In Peace ❤😢
there are somethings that the movie actually got better than the books although the books are muuuuch better and in my opinion gambon is one of them. he interpreted dumbledore in a less proverbial way and created a more original wise and powerful character and he still kept dumbledore's absent minded humor and i dnt think harris wouldve captured the ferocity as well as he did i just dnt think so obviously its impossible to be sure but i really like gambon
@Quintus707 I remembered a quote about Richard Harris's agent when he asked what he could do to get out of the franchise, the agent's respective words were: "Only dying..." Such an unfortunate statement after all.
Love them both
Robbie did Hagrid amazingly aswell as Michael did Dumbledore amazingly
Two legends now sadly passed. Both great in Harry Potter
0:23 Hagrid-Lemmy lol
Bị nghiện bài này từ thời Bảo Thy, ko ngờ lại có ngày được nghe idol mới trong lòng mình Đức Phúc cover lại. Cảm ơn em ĐP vì đã cover lại lắng đọng cảm xúc như vậy
R.I.P Robbie Coltrane & Sir Michael Gambon.
Long live these 2 guys....those movies would have not been nothing without them.... IMHO of course.
RIP Robbie 😭
both now gone.
may they rest in peace.
They look so different without a beard..
There is no hogwarts without you Hagrid!❤🌎
The talent we have lost there is immeasurable !
Rest in Peace Robbie and Michael Gambon
R.I.P Robbie Coltrane And Michael Gambon. We will remember you both.
RIP LEGENDS
they're so great
R.I.P Robbie and Michael
Robbie is a legend
RIP you legends 🙏
They're perfect for the role! Thankyou my hero!
I love Michael Gambon...he used to be gay you know...but was forced to give it up, as it made his eyes water (his own words!).
It's funny because Ian McKellen actually is gay, as is the character of Dumbledore himself.
This kind of weird humour is exactly why Gambon was the right Dumbledore. He leaves people confused, as does Dumbledore VERY often.
keep replaying 1:34
Two lovely guys
I thought they were both BRILLIANT ❤️
I agree! Him and Alan Rickman as Snape!
They could make a movie about a guy who grows turnips and if these two are in it, I'm there.
i preferred richard harris as dumbledore. he was more like book dumbledore. i don’t think he would've been able to keep up with the 'action' that demanded books 3-6 dumbledore
I agree. At first, when I was growing up, I really didn't accept Michael Gambon as Dumbledore because I grew up seeing Richard Harris. It was until Half Blood Prince is when I began to accept Michael as Dumbledore because I wasn't sure if Richard could've portrayed Dumbledore they way we seen as the series gets darker.
I sometimes wonder if Ed Harris would have been a good choice for the darker later movies. Gambon was perfect
Sir Michael Gambon is a great actor. I like him as Dumbledore.
I thought Dumbledore was Ian Mckellen
+609blondebomb McKellen*
You're thinking of Saruman.
Saruman was played by Christopher Lee.
me too!
He was offered the role, but turned it down due to Harris having said he was a bad actor
Can't imagine Dumbledore without Sir Michael Gambon...
Best DUMBELDORE
Sad that they both died several months apart. Rest in Peace Robbie and Michael.
"Time to the Journey to end..." -Dumbledore
Gambon is a very, very funny man and at times a complete loon! Two funny men.
@MissSevenpointsix I'm glad people got the reference!
Michael Gambon and Maggie Smith appeared together in Gosford Park.
What I find interesting is both Dumbledores are Irish in real life, yet Harris played down his real Irish accent in the film, whereas Gambon, whose Irish accent is barely there now, played Dumbledore with a strong Irish accent. I love both but Harris will always be Dumbledore to me.
Harris stuck more to the potter books, but that doesn't translate well into movies, which require more expansive characters...less "disney-ish" to be in a higher echelon. Gambon brought Dumbledore to life beyond a stereotypical story book wizard.
crazy voice
J. K Rowling picked the best 👌💚
It's hilarious to me that the person who would become the voice of Hagrid thought Hagrid sounded like somebody else.
“Great man Dumbledore”
