Eurostar to Waterloo - The Last Day 13th November 2007

  • During the afternoon we see Eurostars at Beckenham Junction, Kent House and Brixton. The last passenger services to depart Waterloo were the 18.09 Paris and the 18.12 Brussles which was named "Waterloo Sunset" are seen at Vauxhall. The group of men taking photographs at Vauxhall were involved in the construction of Waterloo International. And that was it, the end of a short and interesting railway era. As the last arriving passengers passed through Waterloo, security equipment was being dismantled for reuse at the new Ebbesfleet International. Overnight, operations moved to St Pancras and the first train departed just after 11am. Waterloo International is now mothballed. The Eurostar trains quickly had their third rail equipment removed.

so odd to see a 373 running without overhead wires, thanks for recording this historical video!

We will honestly never see anything like this again. High Speed International trains which should be going 186mph crawling through Victorian lines into London on 3rd rail power. This shouldn’t have happened, but it did.
When EuroStar first started, France was decades ahead of the UK in terms of infrastructure, LGV Nord was built for High Speed. When you emerged out of the tunnel and into England, the railway, trains and stations would make you think you were in the 1960s or 70s.

I have travelled on the Eurostar before 14 years ago when I was on a school trip to Disneyland Paris and I remember going to Disneyland after departure from St Pancras during Eurostars second year out of St Pancras

To echo comments that have already been made, this is an excellent video, as are all of yours. Thank you for taking the time to put it together. Even though I live in Texas, I've had the pleasure of being a passenger on Eurostar four times over the years, and have fond memories of each trip. I look forward to experiencing St. Pancras and the new high speed line in the future.

Did you get to go? I’m hoping to do a cross-country trip to Switzerland from St. Pancras next year.

I travelled on a Eurostar in June 1994. My dad told me it was packed to the doors with people heading for Europe. Also in 1999, I remeber racing a Eurostar out of Waterloo on a Southwest Trains class 421. Really Emotional ending to a short era of Britains Railways! 5*****

That was very sad when it was the very last final day. No longer on DC 3rd rail any more, all services are transferred to st Pancras international on the HS1

The music was playing on loud speakers. I ran the camera purely to record enough sound then assemble the clips of vision to fit the same length. If you look at my other Eurostar film at Brixton I do the same thing. The music was playing at a market stall then I put clips to it.

A new track was specially constructed for the new Kings Cross Eurostar service. In 2007, The Eurostar wasn’t connected to mainline services in Kent anymore, which was causing delays for commuters into London.

Why did Eurostar go to to Waterloo rather than Victoria, as every other passenger train on that line did?

I think Waterloo was the only station that had space to build a new terminal. Victoria would have been impossible.

It’s stupid that there wasn’t a High speed line from the Channel Tunnel to London from day one in 1994, but it was sad to see the last 373 leaving Waterloo after 13 year’s of running two and from Waterloo

    • @gwangjuboy1
      @gwangjuboy1 Před rokem +2

Why? Waterloo is a dump of a station compared to St Pancras, a station much more befitting of an international railway.

I bet Southeastern and South West Trains can run more commuter services now! No more Eurostars clogging up the line....
And what is wrong with the track at Vauxhall - the train bounces!

I think it's because the the bogie frame is in the middle of the saloon coaches, meaning it's not really designed suited for trains like these.
