if you have the same brand it should work,if not i think you should check if the sensor of oil is in good or the type of oil is the right one if you change oil for yourself i advice you to go to a shop and let them change oil again and let them do the process for you if you still got the same problem till them about it

How do you get your fuel mileage to reset where it says example I have 379 miles before empty? I filled my tank and didn't reset.

Try going to convenience, then reset oil life
I had to go to convenience, service interval, then reset. It says it under enable service interval.
