You could not be more correct about our elections coming up. I will be back in Laos Nov5, 2024. So, the elections will be furthest from my mind. Every one is ramping up already, so I will be lucky not even to participate. Like you said, we have no control of the elections, but we can control what we do. Great videos. Love watching them. They seem to be the most genuine and humble and gracious people I have ever known. I grew up in a farming small town with Japanese , Chinese and Phillippine farmers. Low cost stock and bond index funds, allocated according to your ability, need, and willingness to take risk.
The downside of dividend stocks is that if you aren’t spending it all then you were effectively forced to take a distribution when you would not have otherwise. And you have to pay taxes on that unwanted distribution. (I’m assuming there was enough dividends that the excess is taxable.)
In the US I can get 40,000 tax free

Beware that once you pass the standard deduction, ordinary income (including a Roth conversion) could trigger both income tax and capital gains tax, making you pay the combined tax on the ordinary income. If you earn $14,600 from youtube, plus $47,025 in dividends, the next youtube dollar would be taxed at 10% plus you'd push $1 of dividends into being taxed, for a combined tax rate of 25% (i.e., 10% + 25%). Plus state taxes, of course.

What are your thoughts
I have a three tiered portfolio. One tier is enough to live on for 5 years. Thats in a high yield savings account. Next tier is a defensive portfolio that returns 7-8%. The last tier is a dividend/income portfolio that returns 8-9%. I have money if markets slide for 5-6 years. Overall it’s a 7-8% return. I’m also a minimalist and own nothing person. So much freedom. Thank you for your channel

As a new viewer I have some constructive criticism. The music you use in your video is too repetitive, the loop is short and it ends up becoming annoying after a few minutes. Another thing that bothers is the pause to show random things. If you use this to transition topics it will work very well, but the way it was done in this video it makes me want to close the video... For example, many people ask how I invest (random pause) I have never been in any get rich quick scheme (random pause)... I think that if you improve these things a little, your retention will increase a lot because you provide very good insights.
