    7:02 Raw Data
    Today, we are answering one of our most asked questions! In this video, we compare our SS3 LED Fog Light Pods to other market-leading fog lamps! We break down each fog lamp by intensity, beam pattern, color temperature, and price.
    For this comparison, we've used our state-of-the-art Goniophotometer, a device that measures multiple points to calculate the intensity and map out the beam pattern of each fog lamp! We've also used our integrating sphere, which is a device that is used to measure the color temperature of each fog lamp. We hope the data we collected helps you choose the best fog lamp for your vehicle!
    If you have any questions about our SS3 LED Fog Light Pods, email us at contact@diodedynamics.com, or give us a call at 314-205-3033 M-F 9am-5pm CST.

    I can really respect a business that doesn't say they have the absolute best with just flowery language and flim-flam. Really respectable that Diode Dynamics does objective comparisons between different products and doesn't just say "we're better than the competition" but proves it.

    Great shootout and vid, Paul. I was both surprised and disappointed that the OEM Toyota fog light (my mom has an '06 Rav4 limited with these exact housings but I went ahead and swapped the halogen bulbs for SV-4's. Output is now comparable to the sun while retaining the same beam pattern) beat out most of the competition. I always believed in Morimoto products because they were made with quality materials and workmanship. But this, the output, the beam pattern, what a total joke!

    Great video, it's so hard to get good information on the beam spread, I used to have a set of PIAA Ion Crystal projector fogs (long since discontinued), and I've struggled to find anything that can match their output other than Xenon projectors (but i hate having to find somewhere to mount ballasts). PIAA's current range are all underpowered and overpriced, so this has really helped in showing me the alternatives.

    I greatly appreciate that you checked out the competition and applied quantitative/qualitative steps. There is no, "Best" light on the market. That Morimoto would make a great light on a Toyota 86. The KC gravity would be sweet on a custom bumper aimed down slightly when you use a winch, so you don't blind yourself. That baja designs light would be nice in heavy snow. Rigid and your lights are great alternatives to driving beams when your actual driving beams are bright white. We get the occasional foggy morning that's so thick, you get maybe 100 yards visibility.

    • @diodedynamics
      @diodedynamics  Před 2 lety +2

      With the clear lens, the color will be somewhere around 4000K. As far as the candela goes, we haven't measured this application. However, it shouldn't deviate much from it's original reading before the clear lens.

The decision comes down to overall capability and cost - some components like LED chips simply are not made in the U.S. at all. We do our best to buy domestically whenever we can (especially with freight costs these days).

    @wetherabble8031 Před rokem

    Let's make this simple.
    Never trust a light manufacturer that makes it difficult to find their beam patterns. Morimoto and Diode Dynamics always include this in their marketing pictures.
    It's kinda sad that I have to watch a Diode Dynamics video to see what a Baja beam pattern looks like. Not bad, but I think Diode Dynamics does win the shoot out here.
    What's really sad for Baja is that I would have likely impulse purchased their Squadron lights and been plenty happy with them if I didn't have to come here to get an idea of their performance.
    Some things I do like about the Baja Design, I wish Diode Dynamics would consider. Swapable lenses with the fasteners accessible from the front. Might still be enough of a design consideration for me that Baja is still in the running. (I want to tuck my lights into an OEM opening that makes accessing the rear of the light too difficult to really consider swapable lenses an option if the fasteners aren't on the front. This is a really cool concept, so you can run driving lights in the summer, and switch over to fog lights in a few minutes when winter starts coming around.)
    Since the making of this video, Baja has released a second generation of their Squadron SAE fog lights.
    So I still don't know what they look like, except from a few install videos from people that clearly don't know that you need to adjust lights after install. "Yep that 5ft in front of your car is really bright." or "Looks like you can see the tree tops really well with those...... fog lights."
    See if you can't dream up a way to make the fasteners accessible from the front and send me a pair for long term testing. ;) Cheers!

    Interesting that you compared your brand lights that aren't identified as SAE certified to competitors SAE certified lights. So assuming your DD lights are off road only that's sleazy dishonest advertising. I hope I'm wrong but I didn't catch any mention of being SAE certified for your brand. If I'm incorrect in my observation please set the record straight and compare straight up offroad lights from all brands.
