service manual has a torque of 29 ft lbs on the self-locking nuts, applied after the weight of the vehicle on the suspension.

That's one RUSTY undercarriage. I'm guessing y'all are on the coast.😂 Thanks for all the Element videos!

The OEM rear sway bar links on my 2003 Element had 14mm nuts on them. I'm replacing them with MOOG links that have 15mm nuts and grease bushings. The OEM links with the allen key part in the center of the threaded bolt is a terrible design. Rusted out and stripped right away and threads were so bad, I had to cut them off with a sawzall.

Thank you! Should you use thread lock on the bolts? Just wondering.

+Tom Smith You are welcome and for parts then need to be serviced or replaced shouldn't need Locite Red or any thread lock since you will have a hard time replacing it down the road.

Do you have to align the car after you replace this?

Tried doing mine this morning, the angle on the bottom nut is garbage, I can't retorque the new link because the subframe is in the way... Now the car is stuck on jack stands.

grate job but when you do theses every day at a dealer ship shop I could not keep doing it with hand tools at 53 years I use my battery powered ratchet or air ratchet much faster and less stress on the body

Can I do this with car ramps?

Learn from my misery. Don't waste time unscrewing the old one off, it's not worth the time. Just cut the old nut and bolt off with a recip. saw. They'll be rusted on and difficult to impossible to remove without destroying the old link.
