About the album:
An unblinking look at an entertainment-obsessed society, Amused to Death addresses issues that have only grown in complexity and urgency over the past two decades. In 2015, television is just one option in an endless array of distractions available to us anytime, anywhere, courtesy of our laptops, tablets and smartphones. With eyes glued to our screens, the dilemmas and injustices of the real world can easily recede from view.

Honest to God, his solo on What God Wants is literally what God wants.
Fucking bad ass is what it is
Just heard about that from rick beato's reaction and here to check it out
Well god's got him now
I wish there was a "multiple likes" button for what you said. He just rips the snot out of his Strat on this song, but if we're honest, I could listen all day to what he did on Three Wishes. There will never be another.

RIP Jeff Beck. You will be missed.
Jeff Beck has notes on his guitar that no else has!
I have the privilege to watch roger and Jeff in 2002 in the royal festival hall in London. Roger kindly signed his solo albums after his performance. Also Jeff beck and the whites stripes played yardbirds songs. What a night!!
RIP Jeff. Thank you for your transcendental guitarwork on this record.
Thanks Roger, for your great words about Jeff, your amazing, stupendous career,
and for standing up for those who are desperate for help.
Like Hendrix, Jeff invented a genre uniquely his own and mastered it in a way nobody else could ever really emulate. True genius.
SRV and others have copied Jimi. Nobody can copy JB!
Guys, listen to Steve Stevens on Derek Sherinian's Alpha Burst. I was 100% certain it was Jeff Beck until i read the credits. Genius.
Yeah, well Steve Stevens is one of the best guitarists nobody's heard of. Catch him playing Rebel Yell (with Billy Idol) on an acoustic guitar -- a _classical_ guitar. Find "Flamenco A Go-Go" (2000) for a sample of his range.
@@pawel7 Thanks for the info: Steve Stevens. Sounds quite remarkable.
I had never heard of Amused to Death before. Stumbled on it after seeing various tributes to Jeff Beck over the last two days. I listened to the album for the first time last night, its a bit of a hidden gem, just wonderful, thanks so much for all your great music. You have been in my ears since I was sixteen and I have been distrusting the government pretty much ever since 😉
Roger is a legit musician. I don't agree with him politically on hardly anything but the music is there and in abundance on Amused to Death. You may wanna check out the title track on "The Pros & Cons of Hitchhiking." It's basically Clapton's best playing in a while. Roger must be a real taskmaster too because he squeezes really good performances out of people.
@@joelsmith5938 Thanks for the recommendation. I kinda skipped over that one of Rogers, but I didn't know that Clapton played on it. I will certainly check it out now. Unlike you I am largely in agreement with Roger's politics if we can agree to forgive each other the politics I also have a recommendation
Me and Mr. Johnson by Eric Clapton. The most wonderful blues.
Jimmy Page said on more than one occasion, “There are guitarists, and there is Jeff Beck”
At time of posting this,
There are 17 dislikes, , , ,
Do these people visit just to press the “thumbs down?”
Whatever your standing on musical tastes, it’s hard to ignore the fact, Mr Beck is “The Guvnor”.
People click the dislike because they hate themselves, but can't be honest.
Dislikers are disco frogs
“I honestly don’t know how he does it”… lol, good to hear his fellow musicians are also awestruck by Jeff’s magical playing!
Jeff Beck was my guitar hero for 50+ years. He rarely played anything commercial, but the stuff he played - WOW. His ability to get just the right sound was inimitable. RIP to my favorite.
Jeff Beck plays everything perfectly. I love music, and have spent the biggest part of my life, listening and loving music. He is one of the greatest musicians ever. Rest In Peace, Jeff. You are truly loved and missed. ❤️🌹❤️
Amused to Death is a masterpiece, and of course Jeff Beck helped to make it so. Trying to comprehend the presence of Jeff Beck and Roger Waters at work in the same studio almost breaks my brain.
I love this album so much and I re-visit it often. With Jeff's passing, it seems many more people are circling back to it too.
I loved this album from the minute it was released in 1992. I kick myself in the head for not paying more attention to Jeff after having discovered it though. I only saw Jeff in concert twice and I didn't really start aggressively listening to his own releases until around 2007.
Probably the greatest guitarist who ever lived.
God bless Jeff Beck!
His Works are immortal.
Amused to Death is one of these great albums where all the elements came together beautifully - and Jeff Becks soloing takes this creative Waters work into the stratosphere......World lost the little guitar maestro just a few days ago.....😇
I know Brian May got the nod for greatest living guitar player, and I don't fault that decision, Brian is a helluva guitar player, but for my money, Jeff Beck is the greatest living guitar player. He's a freak; an alien. He evolves as a player. No one else really does that. Jeff Beck never stops getting better.
Jeff Beck himself said that John McLaughlin was the greatest guitar player alive.
Napoleon4778 Well, of course Jeff’s not going to say he himself is the best, he’s not Yngwie lol!
@@Napoleon4778 yeah but that's a jazz, it's a whole different world. Beck is one of the best rock guitarists.
@@bonitabromeliads He does the jazz too. Basically invented jazz fusion guitar.
@@Napoleon4778 While unfortunately not alive, Beck has mentioned being impressed by Django Reinhardt as well.
I've had the privilege of seeing him perform more than once. It was gobsmacking.
RIP Jeff Beck 😞🌹🌹🌹
I think Roger Waters said it exactly how it is Jeff Beck was gifted!
Simply a guitarist of extraordinary talent
Jeff Beck is the guitarist among all master guitarists!
Some of the most moving guitar playing on record there boy. Incredible!
Truly a masterwork of songwriting, musicianship and passion!!!
Rest In Peace Jeff
Rest in Peace Jeff Beck.
jeff beck is amazing
Both Jeff and Roger have made my time on earth quite enjoyable. ❤
Jeff is finally getting the recognition he deserves, such an gifted guitarist in a genre of his own creation, no one drives a Strat like Jeff.
Jess finally ?? are you serious...JB has always been given his due...
Yes by his followers, less so the mainstream.
@@cbennett196631 The queen hasn't given him an OBE and it is long overdue. So fans, critics, fellow musicians...we all agree....but not the world in general.
I know all the rest of them has gotten one long after their prime. But she can't wait for him to peak - he is 74.
ATD ...imo, the most hauntingly perfect last 3 minutes and 10 seconds of any album I know.
So nice to see someone say that. Right on. The very end passage of It's A Miracle is also musically sublime.
Quinker one can never get enough bill hubbard 😉
Absolutely correct, man. The best rock album of the 90s.
Amused to Death is one of the very very finest records ever. Im totally hooked by it.
I think like you. In my mind Roger's solo career starts with Animals (great!) then the wall (truly great!), the final cut (underrated), Pros and Cons (meh...), Radio Kaos (not bad) and Amused to Death: his master piece. Is this the life... is good but nowhere near to ATD.
@@zooropaforever it’s so amazingly good, and the content is way ahead of its time. I had an honors course for students between high school and college, and we studied the themes in detail (American imperialism, fascination with guns, war as theater, God wants war, etc, etc, etc).
@@zooropaforever yes I feel the same about those “meh “albums and think ATD stories/songwriting etc is exceptionally his last masterpiece, but then he keeps performing live and still amazed me. Then last year he does the online remote re-recordings with Lucius. Thanks Roger Waters for a legacy.
@@zooropaforever I love all Roger Waters work
Radio KAOS is kind of crazy but has great tracks, and then some great songs that have to carry the narrative but just make no sense on their own. The problem is that its a concept album and the concept is kind of yonkers.
But really great tracks on it. Amused to Death is SO good I really can't even listen to it anymore because its just so prescient. True back then, sort of true today but I don't think the american p eople are quite where they were back then. Now its ...'yee gods, not another war'. But 'amused to death' really says it all.
Amused to Death is my favorite album, in part because of Beck's sublime work on it. The night after first listening, I was so inspired I had a huge breakthrough in my own creative career. There are dozens of other guitar geniuses, but I never listen to Beck without shaking my head in wonder and disbelief.
It's so amazing that Jeff Beck is playing the way he is today. Love it.
Never been able to get into Jeff Beck but love his playing on Roger’s great album.
Beck has this certain marriage to his instrument, the two have become one. Nobody else has this!
The original JB. The Governor. The Genius. The Pioneer. The Icon. The Legend. The guitarists, guitarist. Geoffrey Arnold Beck 1944 - 2023. Thank you for sharing your art with us all. With condolences to your family and those closest to you, Sir Beck, your legacy and art will continue to inspire legions.🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
😚💝🌹🌌
And I feel this was undestated - the man had no peers
Jeff is a marvellous player. Probably the best ever British Rock guitarist.
Page has said Jeff's the best -- not just British, the best.
Can we get the whole unedited footage of this whole interview uploaded please? That would be amazing.
I think the editor was away and the tea boy used a hatchet on this one!
Blow by Blow. He Fights his Guitars...and. Then Dances with Em...
Jeff Beck was, is, & will ALWAYS be the #GOATGuitarist.
Jeff Beck and David Gilmore
Blessed Artist!
Best record ever produced. The meaning of the words are as gripping today as they were on the first release.
True, imo, Jeff Beck is an absolute freak (of nature). His style is almost completely inimitable, uncopyable, and his own. His pitch, tone, harmonics and all the rest are off the charts. At his best, he's as good as any player to ever pick up the instrument and arguably (as Jimmy Page said) the preeminent guitar soloist of our time. Very few players can play a gorgeous melody, syncopation, and immediately switch (often in the same song) to blistering speed and fretwork. Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore, and Eddie Van Halen come to mind. They were the earliest, first, and best of the "dive bomber" guitar players who took the instrument into outer space. I would even go so far as to say one could reasonably make a case for his being given the title of best guitar player of all time.
Jeff Beck has left a rather large hole as far as, Rock Guitarists... However, his influence will resonate for years! I saw the Rough, and Ready Tour, and The Wired Tour.. My most sincere prayers, and love for Jeff's loved ones.........
Having grown up listening to some of the most talented guitarists of the past 60 years, it's always a bit difficult, seeing them, in their later years, struggle to play as well as they once could.
So how the hell does Jeff Beck manage to keep getting better every year?
Saw him in concert a few years back, and just couldn't stop picking my jaw up off the floor!
Legend.
He practices every day. Maybe just a little some days, but every single day
RIP Jeff Beck. 🙏
💐I'm so sorry for your loss Mr. Waters, he was +blessed to have you in his life as you were to have him in yours.
Jeff's playing in🕊peace now and I'm looking more and more forward to hearing the Angels Choir.
🇨🇦✌🏻🎸💔(+🇺🇦)✨🌎💫
Remember transcended jeff beck
What a great pairing two fabulous musicians. Jeff Beck with his articulate playing and Roger Waters with his creativity and evocative playing.
Somebody once referred to him as a hampster on steroids - maybe you need to play guitar to "get" him - he's a guitar player's guitar player. His playing is head and shoulders over that blues noodling on Hitchhiking. Over the top and a fabulous album start to finish
Jeff is a legend.
Never knew it was Jeff Beck. Amazing
All bow down to the two greatest gifts to rock and roll, Jeff Beck and Rodger Waters....
And on the 8th day God created Rock and Roll, and it was good!
What God wants is a guitar lesson from Jeff Beck.
Gold :)
Eric ??
God wants to know how Jeff Beck keeps his guitar in tune while whammy-ing away. Me too.
@@Peter7966 Two point tremolo, and lubricate any contact point using Big-Bends nut sauce. Cheers
@@Peter7966 He doesn't. He brings it in tune while he plays by bending the strings.
Yeah ... Jeff Beck ... he surprised me for the first time back in the 60’ with his delay in a Yardbirds song ... Shapes of things ... or ... the B side of that record. Great indeed.
A candle was just blown out God bless you Jeff. If there is one. 73+🍁 hunter Yorkshire expat 🍁
Roger has managed to make his own solo records using three of the greatest guitarists of all time. That's insane, it's not like he had them come in and guest on a track by plopping down a solo in an afternoon, but rather, hey, I'm a notoriously difficult personality and I'd like to spend months in the studio with you making an entire album which will be sold under my own name. And somehow, they went for this. Clapton put in quality work, and Beck made AtD absolutely explode all over the place. If he got Jimmy Page, he'd be the new new yardbirds.
He also made Gilmour play and dance to his will.
Psssst: page can't really play anymore (and I worship him, but)
Play that guitar, where ever the journey takes you next to my friend, sadly missed
Firstly, Amused to Death is in my Top 3 favorite albums of all time.
Secondly, it was my proper introduction to Jeff Beck, who became my over all favorite guitarist...
For this, I owe you a debt of gratitude - Thank-You!
this is a album for the next 1000 years ...thank you roger and jeff and all the others ---Monumetalalbum like musik from Mozart ;Bach ,Beethoven
Roger, we need the whole ‚Amused to Death‘ with video footage from the studio…
Best ever.
One of the very best albums ever, in my opinion, and that's in no small part because of Jeff Beck. Absolute genius.
Oh, Roger did quite well too 😜👍🤣
Meddle, DSotM, Wish you were here, Animals, The Wall....Largely regarded as Pink Floyd’s halcyon days. This album, Amused to Death however, is up their with them in quality. People would rave over it if it were attached to the Pink Floyd brand. In my opinion, one of the most underrated LPs in history.
I’ll have to listen to it again but all I remember liking about it was this one song and it’s badass
Best. Album. Ever! 😭🖤
“David, let me tell you where I am. I’m out”. I had forgotten all about that time Roger Waters was on Dragons’ Den.
Jeff was one of one
Jeff Beck is the musical backbone to this album. I haven't heard a better performance by Beck since!
check out ''Loud Hailer'' Becks most recent record . the most topical record out . full on Beck with great writing and female vocals .
although I've tried many times, I can't pick up hearing Andy Fairweather Lowe playing a 12 string Rickenbacker with a feather (as listed in credits)
Still an amazing album though...in my top three of all time.
And Mr Waters features heavily on another one of them!!!
David Gilmour is also a great one !!:)
perfect combination..the greatest songwriter singer tha greatest guitar player
of all times
awesome well said
God wants Beck. RIP legend.
Oh how I would love to see these 2 guys do another album together!
Please! Please! Please!
Too late RIP
Being Roger and have worked with
Beck
Clapton
Gilmour
Must be one of the greatest things to happen to any artist .
Being Beck/Clapton or Gilmour and have worked with Roger
Must be one of the greatest things to happen to any artist ;)
Now we need him to work with brian may
Hey, he also worked with Eddie Van Halen! don´t forget that!
In what is known as Rock music, Jeff Beck rules. It is as simple as that.
The Man.
Yup. Jeff was the best guitar player ever
😢
Without a shadow of a doubt Jeff Beck is THE most underrated guitarist of all time. It is a gross injustice he isn't recognised more. Speak to non musician people of Jeff Beck and you are bound to hear something like " Oh the 'Hi ho silver lining' guy, great party singalong, but...one hit wonder "
I think his only real commercial group success was early on with the Yardbirds. He became a solo act mainly after that and because he didn't really sing or play in another famous band, he got overlooked by the general public. Musicians know his greatness though. Other guitar greats like Satriani, Maelstrom, and Vai, also aren't known for vocals or lyrics, and, like Beck, their talents get overlooked by the general population.
Roger...i love you man.You too Jeff.
What God Wants part 3 has the greatest electric guitar solo of all time. Certainly makes me think that when I hear it. A wailing raging human voice.
I miss Jeff
I lived to see the Wall Live in Berlin by Roger Waters
♥️
And God said after bringing Jeff Beck to life, "My work is Done!"
♥
RIP jeff
JEFF BECK RULES!!
RIP 11/01/2023
Graham Broad on drums! Along with Jeff Beck, highly underrated! The sum of the parts………!
RIP Jeff Beck
If you find The Kingdom you'll see him with Him.
THE INDEX A-Z OF MUSIC WITH A GUITAR JEFF BECK CAN FIT IN AND PLAY SUPREME. THE LONE, A MAESTRO TO HIS CRAFT.
Amused to Death is the only Roger Waters album that rivals his work with Floyd, and I think that Jeff Beck is one of the biggest reasons for that. He's one of the only other players thay can rival Gimour for the emotional release and melodic sense that the lyrics require.
There was a rumor that PF wanted Jeff Beck to join after Sid got ill. People are enjoying that version of Floyd in some other alternative universe.
What God wants? Mr. Jeff Beck on the Guitar!
RIP JB. 😮💨
he ROCKED the BUHJAYZUSSS out of that tune....
Jeff is/was groovy
Entire comment section is about Jeff Beck. Me myself, I just want to acknowledge that in the end we have amused ourselves to death. Don’t we?
