An unblinking look at an entertainment-obsessed society, Amused to Death addresses issues that have only grown in complexity and urgency over the past two decades. In 2015, television is just one option in an endless array of distractions available to us anytime, anywhere, courtesy of our laptops, tablets and smartphones. With eyes glued to our screens, the dilemmas and injustices of the real world can easily recede from view.

Jeff Beck 🎸🙏 1944 - 2023 Rest in Peace. One of the greatest guitarists ever.
RIP Jeff, no one like you, one of the greatest guitarists ever
From the first note from his guitar to the very last, guts and glory. Mr Beck you've made an honorable contribution to music with your gift of playing. You will not be forgotten. God rest your soul.
:18 ❤
Thank You Jeff ! So hard to believe he’s gone . I’ll never forget seeing him and SRV do an encore together. Rock and Roll Ecstasy 🙏👌😢☮️❤️
Incredible playing on this song mate
Jeff Beck's performance on this song was outstanding. RIP.
I was 17 years old and in Abbey Road studios making a glass master for a vinyl when the engineer mentioned that Roger was there recording this video. I fell off the chair and went looking for the studio he was in. We managed a look through the door at a glimpse of a God. I'm now 46 but it's a memory I'll cherish forever.
Great story and being in Abbey Road studios home to the greatest band of all time very special indeed.

Dang it would of loved to been there. ! Congratulations on seeing the man. !
RIP Jeff Beck. One of the best guitarists in history
Rick Beato sent me here....and I'm thankful for that, as well as every note Jeff Beck ever gave to the world. He started off by dazzling the likes of Jimi Hendrix and all of the early guitar superstars, continuing to do so through his entire career. He was one of a kind and he will be missed. Heaven is putting together one hell of a band.
Seconded.
Same. I’ve loved this song for decades, and had no idea he was playing 💔🖤
Tim Pierce sent me here.
@@xxcelr8rs me to
Got carried away a bit there. It was Jimi who dazzled the complete guitar establishment when he came to Britain. Jeff and Eric et al were all in the assembly.
I played this cd through out my deployment in Iraq. I introduced a friend to the cd the final cut, and he in turn hooked me up with this cd. it is a true master piece. i find the play on words, the satire.....and the shear history in the words. this song got me through some rough times. thank you Sir.
I saw Roger Waters this summer.
Went alone, dropped 400 on real good seats.
It was nostalgic, but I’m happy I went.
To bad Jeff Beck wasn’t there,
They had two lead guitars to cover the genius work.
Thanks to Roger Waters for bringing one of Jeff's most fantastic performances; on most of the album not just one track.
Clearly God wants Jeff Beck's incredible stratocaster playing on earth 🌎!
Gratitude 🙏 🕉
The split in the band gave us Roger untamed....I think it's worth the trouble...we would've been a lot poorer without this....of course all my my most sincere chimpanzees with everyone that suffered 😅😅😅
Jeff Beck's tone and performance on this track is nothing short of sublime! The sound of a man truly expressing himself through a guitar, not just by note selection but every single little nuance that falls from the instrument. Awe-inspiring.
Clapton is the same on Pros and Cons. For all the megalomaniac accusations leveled at Roger he definitely knows how to let them do what they do best without overproduction.
His closing riff(s) is, if not a monster, an animal of impressive mass.
Describes every performance by Jeff Beck, except his solo in “Heart Full of Soul” which even I can play
@@HuntersMoon73 does it fit the part?
Jeff Beck IS a guitar. I can't think of a better way to put it...
And not just ANY guitar. 🎸
The best "badass" song Waters ever made. It's kind of like Another Brick in the Wall Part II but a bit more in your face. It's also my personal favorite of his solo career.
The moment when I truly understood where Jeff Beck stood in music. No one like him. Thanks for your music - will never forget.
This album is an absolute masterpiece, beginning to end. Thank you Mr. Waters.
I never understood why this was a number 1 album of the year it came out. It definitely was a masterpiece beginning to end. You never heard it played on the stations that did long play versus top 40. It deserved radio time for 10 years running, and nobody on the west coast played it. I found it on CZcams while listening to Jeff Beck tunes. Then again with Waters. The song got tweeked by Waters when he got mad at the world. That was definitely a sick move by Waters to try and remove all the Beck video parts.
Most underrated rock album in history? This work is pure musical genius from start to finish.
Absolutly YES
Jeff beck's best work for me and Roger Walters what can yo say just so moving and connective. For me this is beyond Floyd but at this level it's all life changing

A great song from one of the best albums of all time. Roger said that Jeff Beck could take a brand new guitar out of a box, and without even tuning it, make it sound incredible. I believe it.
He actually just grabbed this guitar from a store on the way to the studio and just played it.
@@humandroid53 Yup!!!! At least I've seen that published in a bunch of different places. A lot of really top-tier guitarists said he could pick up ANYTHING with just about any setup, and play it brilliantly, just using bends, the whammy bar & his perfect pitch.
Thanks for all of the love and passion you gave us Jeff. You will be missed by millions.
Wow just discovered this gem because of Jeff's passing but damn songs like this are the songs that deserve #1 on the charts.
The whole CD is good. Then again, I am a huge Roger Waters fan.
Who else but Roger Waters (or Ian Anderson's "Oh God") would write a song this cynical about people's belief in God? Waters has said he was surprised this album - "Amused To Death" - didn't receive greater recognition.

RIP Jeff, what a masterpiece was this entire album!!
Roger is 77.
I just remembered I started listening to Pink Floyd when I was 14
I’m 62 now.
Where have I been ?
... and then one day you find, 51 years have got behind you... I'm not having a laugh here, I'm experiencing the same thing, as does everybody else, I suppose! Okay, I'm 39 but still... I turned 18 yesterday. I remember getting food from our local Chinese restaurant at the time and my favourite pub (and it's grumpy owner) was next to it. When me and my aunt were about to f off back home, he (the grumpy pub owner) came outside and said: "IS IT REALLY YOUR BIRTHDAY, OR ARE YOU **** WITH ME, DAMMIT?!" I told him it was and he congratulated me but... as you can expect, I never forgot about it and when I think back of it, it really felt like it's yesterday! So strange. CARPE DIEM, people!! Before you know it, you're about to pick a coffin
Rip Jeff. Incredible guitar work on this album. Incredible!!

Yeah, great song and great album, too bad no one was interested at the time...as a result Roger ditched the planned tour and we had to wait 25 years for a follow-up !

RIP Jeff one of my all time favorite guitarists you will be heavily missed
This album blew me away back when it came out and it's fascinating what has transpired. God wanted Roger to prophecy about the future. This album predicted reality TV, binge watching, the advancement of the 24 hour news channel. The medium is the message.
Yes. Prophetic.
At 00:12 the intro riff to 01:04 from Jeff Beck is just phenomenal and at 2:00 and 3:18, I always loved this track with great vocals, bass and lyrics from Roger and great backing singers and super drums, it's a great track. Having Jeff Beck on this was the best decision Roger Waters made. I'm so glad they got together on this. Superb!!
Possibly the most underatted (and best produced) album of all time, featruing the world's greatest ever guitarist!
RIP JB....... 😥What an opening riff!!! ❤🖤❤
RIP Jeff Beck. This was always going to be a great album, but Jeff’s playing for me made it fantastic. One of my all time favourite albums.
I AM AMUSED TO DEATH BY BECK AND WATERS. Thank you both for your huge contributions to the earths musical history. For, Without either of you, we would not be the same specious !!!!!
Jeff was a one of a kind. I know that's an understatement. This brilliant album wouldn't have been nearly the same without him.
Yes it would have just been 60 mins of Waters' strained speak-singing.

I hate it when great artists & songs don't get the exposure they deserve... I wish these great & sexy riffs would get more attention from the public!
I hate it when people think that their specific taste in music should be appreciated by the public. There's nothing wrong with liking what you like, but no one has the right to determine which artists deserve exposure.
And you are right on that...but in my own lil bubble of fantasies...this song would be battling it out on the current charts with The Weeknds and the JustinBiebers....But just because an older artist made it this could never happen... =)
Well, pink floyd had their time in the charts, dark side of the moon stayed there for 741 weeks! And the yardbirds would've been hitting the charts back in their day. Just be happy they're still around in some form or another making music you and many others love :) even if Joe public doesn't even know who Jeff beck is haha :(
The thing is ..I'm getting older..and seeing that older people can't keep up their spotlight is affecting even on what I comment on CZcams I guess! =P
You gave me some perspective though. =)
Glad I could mate glad could :D
RIP Jeff Beck, a brilliant musician with an amazing, unique guitar style. Your passing reminded me about this gem of a song.
The perfect storm.... that is this album, Roger's lyrics, Jeff's licks.... perfect album, perfect storm....
I think Amused to death is the best moment in Waters solo career. But is also Jeff Beck at his top, so powerful, astonishing... My God what a guitarist... My God
Jeff Beck had the power of striking my wannabe-guitar player mindset when I was 15 years old with his part in "Shape of things" with the Yardbirds ...meaning that he had already something different from the other guitar players since his early days ....he's the one who taught me to make use of guitar effects such as a delay and reverb. With this song he has reached miles over the top of the best expectations for a guitar player. His touch has been truly unique. Thank you Jeff. Rest in peace mate.
Wisdom of the Masters Thank you Roger. RIP Jeff Beck 💔🎩 Legend
This album is one of the most important albums ever made at a time when the world needed a musical conscience. Roger has never been afraid of taking a position on important subjects like the Iraqi War that had become entertainment to the monkeys (Americans) watching their televisions at the time. The music and production was second to none and one of Roger's best in my opinion. Too bad I missed the live concert. Did anyone else see the live show?
Love Roger WATERS.. Love his stance of politics, war and injustice in the World.. Love this track.. Jeff Beck's superb sharp playing helps get the message across
this album is a hidden gem. one of my favorite all time
The tone on Jeff's guitar is undeniable, best ever!
Amused to Death has long been a favorite of mine, and is to this day, one of the most powerful albums ever recorded. Whether you agree with his personal politics or not, none can dispute the truth of these lyrics.
Неповторимый Роджер Уотерс.. Особый голос, особая манера исполнения, особый драйв... Даже в простых мелодиях он способен очаровывать и удерживать внимание слушателя. Обожаю. Дай бог здоровья Мастеру!
Un niño mágico.
definitely one of my favorite Roger Waters songs
👍👍👍😊🎸🎶ROGER 💖
RIP Jeff Beck. IMHO this album demonstrates his finest work.
One of the greats playing with another out of his mind writer... Jeff, RIP, of course was one of a kind and his playing on this record was immediately noticed. BUT, remember who played guitar on this track, and about 7other tunes, the great Tim Pierce on rythym guitar. Tim comes in with his ear and guidance in production. I first saw Jeff Beck around 1972 in New Jersey. Always a huge fan of his. Loved his new album "18" with Johhny D. Living in Greenwich Village the past decade or so. I was in a bar off Bleeker St about 10 years ago when Roger Waters came in, baseball hat, denim coat. Almost not recognizable. then he sat at the piano in the bar and played a few Floyd Tunes and got up, bought the bar (maybe 10 people) a drink and left. Very strange.
From my most played album ever. The tape ran in my car for 18 months non-stop.
This is the definitive Roger Waters Song...Best he ever made! and like a behemoth it stands the test of time!! Shine on you crazy diamond!!!
an absolute master on the guitar, esp on part III. As Roger said, ''a religious experience playing with him''.
Lovely that you took the time and we all should take the time to honor an artist like Jeff Beck. As an artist friend of mine once said, "Paths that cross will cross again" Thanks Jeff
I have enjoyed this album since the very day of its release in 92. Waited years for it after radio kaos.
RIP Jeff Beck, he played lead guitar on this and it's incredibly well done🙏
Makes me remember of Jethro Tull's Hymn 43: "If Jesus saves, well he better save himself!". I thank you, Roger, for being some kind of beacon in these times of confusion. Greetins from a very much incomprehensible Brasil. Hope to see you again soon.
At the moment this song is high up in my Top 100 favorite tracks, and that is saying something. what a genuinely underrated album and I am not joking.
I'm a big Floyd fan but this album is the best thing that water's has ever produced
My go-to song, when I heard about the passing of Jeff today. RIP, friend😿
Jeff stretches those strings just like he does to his cars.hes also a fantastic metalworker.and engineer.

Been visiting all my fav YT vids of Jeff. Very surreal to think he's gone. Jeff's contributions to this album made it a favourite of mine. Talk about stamping your mark. But then, that's what he always did... Travel well Jeff. RIP
This is how I first learned of who Jeff Beck was. That intro solo to start this song just sets an awesome tone. I really wish I had learned more of Jeff’s music. Sadly it’s going to take his death to make me appreciate him even more and learn his solo music.
Right with you. I thought Jeff might live longer than Les Paul- he was so mentally forward thinking, still learning, building hot rods, and he took pretty damn good care of himself. And then......WHAT the?!?!
@@Caltops78 Never too late for you to "catch up". That's one of the few positives among the sadness, his "catalog", his life's work, is still here for everyone. I'm still bummed, but imagine having everything you accomplished left behind for as long as it takes us to destroy the Earth. Hope you enjoy "catching up".

Waters and Clapton was fucking incredible
@idoj654123 Except those aren't EMGs; they're Lace Sensors. Beck and several other Fender signature models (e.g., Clapton's, Buy Guy's, etc.) came standard with them in the late '80s through '90s. It's pretty clear the bridge pickup is a Lace "Dually" rather than a conventional one-piece EMG humbucker.

Janneke Goossens * sends fangirl high-five over the internet *
+Janneke Goossens Hue. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
+Janneke Goossens I love the fact that Waters left his signature chipped tooth the way it is...It must be the key to all of his vocalisms on the early stuff, Eugene & bird whistles & so on...and it just looks cool, looks like Rog !! I sure would like a new triple cd of new studio material...
+Earl Brackett I have always loved Roger's vocals and just how unvarnished his voice is. I think there is an awesome display of what it brings when you listen to Dogs. Gilmour sings the first half of the song, and his voice is very pretty. Angelic, polished. Then Waters takes over for the second half, and his slightly nasty, jagged voice really nails down this idea that the first half of the song is from the view point of an old dog who has had time to beautify all the nasty lies it takes to back stab people and to be treacherous. You welcome the beautiful dog only to have it bite you. Roger's voice, being less polished represents this young, naive and hopeful dog, who still believes that there is hope. He hasn't been totally destroyed or had time to practice his sleight of hand, yet. I don';t know if the band made it a point to do that, but it really seems like it when you consider the change in attitude of the first half and the second. It's brilliant!
Timothy Gonzales Anyone ever told ya you should get into music journalism?
RIP Jeff.

Roger Waters has the talent to take the best from the musicians. This is the best Beck you can hear, like the best Gilmour you can hear is when he plays with Waters. And it's the same with Clapton. It is not a casuality..
