I have an X5 40i and was waiting to “treat” myself with the more expensive Cayenne. After spending 30 minutes on a test drive, I left the dealership in shock. The X5 was the better car by almost every measure. The Cayenne seemed like it may handle better at the limit, but that only applies when pushing the car to 10/10. The most disappointing aspects of the Cayenne were the engine (slower than X5 and a little gritty), creaky panels, vibration when the sound system is playing loud, road noise. The X5 also has far superior transmission tuning. Not to mention it’s larger and rides more comfortably. Honestly, even if they were the same price, I’d still take the X5.
We just did the same thing today and walked away with the x5. I was shocked and expected the Porsche Cayenne to steal the show but the X5 40i fully equipped has everything and drives amazingly for what we want and need.
Which Cayenne did you guys test drive? The Base. The S? The Turbo? The GTS? I too drove both & purchased the 2023 Cayenne Turbo with rear axle steering, adaptive air suspension, and the sport chrono package. If you guys are comparing a Cayenne Base to an X5 40i, that’s really not a fair comparison. I’d argue that a Cayenne Turbo (4.0 liter twin turbo) is a way better unit than an X5 40i on nearly every metric. Also, the Cayennes depreciate way less than an X5 40i. To each his own I suppose.
I've been driving f15 x5 3l Diesel, loved that car, looked many times at 40i and 50i g05 models and I didn't like them at all. They weren't feeling like my sporty torquey diesel. On other side I test drove Cayenne S with 2.9 engine and that felt exactly how I wanted it - torquey, sporty, and much more nimble. New x5 feels like a bus, the steering wheel is too fat. Cayenne S will all transmission options feels almost like a BMW M340i sedan, not like an x5, even 50i drives way worse
I wanted the Porsche but bought the X5 because of price. I love the X5 and now feel good that I didn't miss out on anything, In fact, I got a lot of the bells and whistles I didn't know weren't available on the Cayenne. Only caution if you buy the X5 it takes some time to understand how everything works. Plan on making a couple of trips to the dealer to understand all its features .
Crow Killer The X5 is very comfortable on long drives. Front seats are very very comfortable. The back seats are also very comfortable and you can definitely stay around 5 hours comfortably in the back.
Hi David, Would you recommend getting an X5? How’s the car on fuel, is it fuel efficient? Is it quiet on road? Comfort wise, what are your takes on that?
Watch CZcams videos. That's how I learned the functions of my X5. My 2012 X5 is quiet on the road for me. Even though it's an older car, it is way advance for my basic needs. Plus, you can adjust the accelerator based on you drive, making that car reactive to your driving style.
Both nice cars and despite same category very different. I’ve owned the X5M and have the Cayenne Turbo. The Porsche more expensive to buy, however depreciates less so same thing. A good friend told me a Porsche is ‘timeless’ and I think he has a point!
I had the X5 I50 then I ordered my new Cayenne identical spec to the one in the video, let me tell all of you, if you can afford a Porsche buy it, you will never drive another car again, can’t describe the feeling here, but it’s a much better car.
Yeah your right i had F15 X5 30d very nicely speced. Test drove a Panamera once and could not go back. Now I'm driving a Panamera 4E and considering trading it in for a Cayenne Turbo when the facelift arrives or a Panamera GTS
if tmyou buy a cayene and change rims make sure they dont put low profile tires race tires. the stick like no tire but you feel every bump and the car feels more stiff like the problem is in bad road like in gravel roads it drives really bad and if you live or will drive were there is not much logth please don't upgrade to the adaptive ligth the are not birth at all

That’s a great comparison video. I have an X5 that’s a couple years older than yours, previous generation F 15 in the diesel with the M sport package. Great vehicle overall and one for fuel mileage. The only problem I don’t like is the cost of repairs. I’ve since did the EGR delete and no more diesel exhaust fluid. But I’m debating on moving up to our 2019 Cayenne later on.
Two words for the Porsche: Sports Chrono, thatll help make the speed a wash. But its kind of silly, you dont buy these SUVS for speed. The X5 is a great choice but the overall depreciation, if you purchase it, is quite alarming. The Cayenne will retain a higher residual value, in the long run. But most people lease these things, so that maybe a wash. I can say owning both, that the Porsche is the hands down more coveted brand. When you park your BMW, most people dont care, they tend to blend in, at times. When you drive your Porsche, people do notice and you get the occasional, hey nice vehicle. I developed some lower back pain driving this car and also i hate getting in and out of the car specially in winters as wearing extra layers. That's what my true experience with these cars. Porsche still have that brand image to get noticed. Remember Cayenne is more of Porsche's entry level car ( before Macan came in) and X5 is BMW's upper level of vehicle line up. So that make the Porsche a better and upscale brand!! I am going back to SUV and trying to justify the $20K price difference between X5 to Cayenne coupe!! Then even their 6 cylinder version isn't as strong as the I6 from BMW. The only edge MB (subjectively speaking) is the interior where a lot of people think is better than BMW interior. I can see where they're coming from and can agree in some areas. Their instrument cluster does seem better designed than BMW's.

Whats your thoughts on the new GLE?
Just throwing in my 2 cents, GLE starts out base with a 4 cylinder version which is literally garbage, it makes the car as slow as a Hyundai Palaside which is unacceptable for a MB.
This guy says they both look to be the same size. Wrong, BMW is larger, more spacious. Look at the specs, dude.
which sound system better ?
My next car is going to be x5
This two I’ll not compare. The only comparable is 7series but that’s a limo.
BMW is not trustworthy brand. Mercedes is the best. If you got a BMW you must have to preparing to visit continuously your mechanic. So I’m that way Porsche is the best option here ... luxurious dynamic confortable and very good car in all sense .....
X5 with black grill will look much better
Good and informative video. Only one comment, what does it do to the environment when you own not one but two luxury SUV's?
That’s a question, not a comment. The answer: absolutely nothing.
@@Bmwguy2011 Let's see, manufacturing resources used, more electricity, more metal, more plastics, more rubber. Very damaging to the environment.
@@shahidahsan6507 the cars when expired are recycled. Emissions are nearly irrelevant as one volcanic eruption will create more “carbon” than all the cars ever operated in the world, yes, the third world, too, since 1890.
@@Bmwguy2011 So you don't believe in global warming despite all the scientists who do, yes, third world too.
@@shahidahsan6507 no I don’t. Many credible scientists don’t believe in it. It started with global winter in the 1980’. The world was to end imminently in a global ice age. When the globalists desirous to control individuals failed, they invented another asinine theory of global warming. Then when this failed and after getting caught fraudulently doctoring the results, they switched to climate change. Now, anything erratic is explained by climate change. They can now control us all while they fly on their private jets lecturing us about this all. It’s stupid and has no real science behind it. If they can get enough useful idiots to run scared, they can control the world. India and China do more polluting in a decade than all Americans combined in the last 150’years.
I'll go with the Porsche.
