I sold my Range Rover Sport SDV8 and purchased a Porsche Cayenne GTS Coupe 2023. I opted for the 18 Way seats so the comfort level is on a par with the Rangie. I've had the Cayenne since the beginning of March this year and so far haven't had to take it back to the dealer. The Range Rover was back 3 times in the first 6 months of ownership.

NIce. I am considering the same three SUVS, coming from a '21 S580 wanting a little downsize since my car has been giving me some minor issues I feel like its in the cards to make a move. Having a hard time from car to SUV (knowing noting will be as good as my S class. I am super biased to MB and the 3 S classes I have owned) So I'm getting a crap ton of time on youtube narrowing down my choices. So you are still very happy with the Cayenne GTS Coupe, correct?

Great, practical and informative review, as always. I always buy Cayennes, after having driven the BMW and Land Rover options. BMW looks pedestrian to me and I am not a fan of their design. Range Rover Sport is a nice vehicle but I already own a full size Range Rover so do not want two cars from the same family. By the way, I have had three Range Rovers, no major problems, frankly, maybe I got lucky. Nothing steers and handles like a Porsche, so, if you like, as you said, to drive, Cayenne is it, if you want to cruise, the other two are fine options.

i also have a 911 and despite being a porsche customer, I would get the X5: i love the 911 for the driving feel, but the infotainment and dashboard layout is...funky at best (map hidden behind the wheel, really porsche?). Not to mention rattling. I'd go X5 because it's the most obvious, easy to use interface, and because frankly nothing justifies the extra price on the cayenne. I'd rather have a BMW straight 6, a legendary engine, than an audi V6 that one can get on an A4. regarding reliability, no one should buy a car like that off warranty IMO. Lease them, buy them out, sell immediatly, lease an other. Or extend the warranty.

Great video. I love that you give an honest assessment, warts and all. Too many reviewers sugar coat problems and it’s not doing consumers a favor.
Just got the X5 and love it. The Porsche was very nice too, but the BMW was a little more comfortable with the merino leather and the excellent 20 way multi-contour seats.
I have no Illusions about cost of ownership or resale. Got the full extended maintenance plan and platinum warranty for as long as they sell them because I don’t want hassles. Any maintenance or problems, it gets dropped off at the dealer and they can deal with it.
As far as resale, it’s paid for so no worries about being upside down and all cars are highly depreciating assets, so I consider them lost money. Anything I might get for trading it in 7 to ten years from now will just be a nice surprise.
None of these cars are sound financial decisions. They’re super comfortable, performant, safe and enjoyable. Sometimes that’s worth more than money.
If cost of ownership was a concern, I’d drive a Honda or Toyota.

Exactly, and I have had a couple of Hondas and a couple of Mazdas in my younger days. Now I have a Mercedes GL with an X5 on order, and my wife drives an Audi convertible. When I was younger, I was backing my boat out of a berth on a river where we had stayed overnight, after crossing Lake Michigan. Some clown on land is watching me and says to his buddy “a boat is a terrible investment”. And I’m thinking that odds are, he’s too foolish to ever be able to comfortably afford a boat, because they most definitely are NOT investments so that is just a naive statement. Just like luxury cars, boats are significant expenses, and if you don’t both enjoy them, and earn enough to have the extra money left over after your housing expenses and other necessities, your college and retirement savings, etc. - you should not buy them. Many people who do, shouldn’t - but that’s their business. Just don’t pretend a Toyota is a BMW - it’s not.

The salesperson could not tell me how much weight lowered gate could support. He researched and reported 500 lbs. I have my doubts about that. Another issue with the gate….When placing something in the cargo area, you must lift higher over the lower tailgate like it’s a pickup truck. BMW ……. Forget the split tailgate.

I agree with your rating however there are some other items to consider as well. First, the Range Rover Sport is being marked up by $10k at most if not all dealerships. Along with the dependability issues kicks it to last on my list! The Porsche Cayenne while arguably the overall best of the three, is in it's last year (2024) before it gets electrified. Which could make it a much better long term purchase for resell purposes. Finally the BWM X5 with the new refresh, to me is the best looking of the three and the ride quality is outstanding, if you stay away from the M model which is like riding the HULK. It only knows how to be a beast! However, if you want the most affordable, comfortable daily driver, its definitely X5. If money is not an issue, and you can find one....definitely go with the Cayenne! I would not even consider the Range Rover at this point with their greedy ass dealers and poor reliability!

I bought the rx350. I was to scared to buy the porsche, BMW, Mercedes as well as the Genesis due to high repairs and reliability issues. I will admit the lexus is a little boring but will always be reliable and still looks sexy.

I have owned / driven most of these cars and I would say dollar for dollar, if you are looking for a combination of performance, comfort, fuel efficiency, resale value and on road / offroad capability, the range rover wins by a large margin. Range rover first edition diesel hybrid will be far more fuel efficient than the other two.
BMW generally offers a tight grippy steering and good performance but a rugged drive. Nothing wrong with it but you don’t buy BMW for comfort. You buy BMW for looks and performance / steering.
Porsche, well noone buys Porsche for comfort or fuel efficiency, they buy it for performance and for that reason, other than their race / roadsters I wouldn’t waste my money on a Porsche SUV
