    Thanks to those lovely people at Guildford Harley-Davidson I was lucky enough to get a go on Harley's brand new all EV motorcycle, the LiveWire! Join me as I take it for a gentle ride on some Surrey roads.
    Hopefully I will be taking the bike out again soon for some faster roads in better weather (and traffic conditions)!

      @@need100k far from buddy, going by the current EVs on the market, you won't have to replace the batteries at all! You may find that if it did 140 miles when brand new, after 6 years you might get 120-130 perhaps. It degrades over time and with charging patterns etc, doesn't just blow up and break

    Currently averaging 6000 miles per year at 50 to the gallon comes out at about £650 per year, plus another £250 for servicing, which you allegedly don’t need for the electric bikes. So say £900 a year versus about £90 for sixty overnight charges, you still need about twenty years to break even over an average £12k bike.

    Don't want to be mean but it looks like a radiator on wheels to me, But hey this Bike was not built for me. But at least it stands out in look, i do think it will be about a decade-five years till electric vehicles can really be high in numbers due to the need of the charger stations being placed in enough locations yet. From what I've seen and watched the Bike works very well it is not a garage queen which most Harley's end up as. A good Come back to the modern day for Harley Davidson.
    I will admit i do not like the design of the handlebars though, i don't like the gap between the top and bottom bar, but that is personal taste.

    10:31 Gotta disagree with you there, Hydrogen may sound like cool tech and it's "fill-er-up in a jiffy" convenient, but economically it's super wasteful. You keep all the maintenace-heavy moving parts and fluids that you lose with electric, green hydrogen and the infrastructure is heaps more expensive than just charging, and using power to turn stuff into hydrogen only to then turn hydrogen back into power is a silly concept at best. For personal transportation E makes more sense whereas industrial transportation does profit more from H, if only to get rid of the massive pollution.

    But Harley are just greedy, how can they justify 30k when there are half the materials of a car, half the tech of a car.. and I dont buy into the "first" build costs.. most of these EV are the "first" generation...
    it is 10k (and that's a lot) off its value this should have been a 20k bike. 30k is ridiculous!

      You can also buy any number or combustion engine cars for the price of a BMW GS1250 for example. An EV motorycle is stupendously expensive to do R&D for, as it is not the same as an EV car at all (beyond the basic premise). HD sold these bikes at a loss as far as I remember, even at £30k a pop. HD also not a cheap brand but they took a risk where most would not, I respect them for that.

      @@Englishbikerdan what are you talking about all the EV cars have been designed ground up, they are not pre production ICE cars that they simply drop a EV into, for example.. Can you imagine the the cost of a mass production ground up car ie Teslas didnt even brake even on their first run, same with mk1 nissan leaf.. There is 2x as much material costs and tech in a car vs bike, there are 4 wheels, 4 regen brakes, 4x suspension components... I think you know that EV a bike should not cost the same as a EV car.

    • @Englishbikerdan
      @Englishbikerdan  Před 3 lety

      EV cars have been around quiet a while, so the technology for cars has matured and got much cheaper. In bikes it's a different story, battery cell size and distance are the key issues. Also many manufacturers share R&D costs for cars as they run the same car underneath. Besides, if you're looking for a bike, you're not looking for a car, so price isn't really an issue beyond a certain point. You think people who spend £20k on a BMW GS really would have bought a car instead? Anyway, it is what it is. Hopefully we'll see a cheaper mass produced EV bike soon. Honda, Yamaha, KTM and Piaggio Group are all working together on a shared EV tech. So it's on the horizon.

    Hydrogen is NOT a smarter solution. I requires an unnecessary energy conversation step, which ultimately goes to an electric motor. That's why Elon Musk said: "Why would you do that?" Only in specific applications would hydrogen be a better option.

    • @Englishbikerdan
      @Englishbikerdan  Před 4 lety

      It's not a smarter solution 'yet' but it might yet prove to be when the technology matures. Besides, Elon sells battery EV vehicles so he's ever so slightly biased! The hydrogen fuel cell is better for the environment but it needs much more development and research. I believe the future won't be a battery based electric vehicle.

    That's one ugly ass bike right there! But hey, that's just design. if they can make them cheaper and ride for longer, who knows? But one thing they need to implement in all electric vehicles - the sound! Talking from a pedestrian point of view - i went to Holland for the weekend and three times i got some dude using his signal on me when close behind me walking down the road. Just couldn't hear the damn thing!
