Mark Price smaller and less accurate version of Curry was all star playing in the PHYSICAL ERA of basketball.. Give me a break...
Physical ERA basketball means less skilled because we canNOT move our feet to play defense so we HACKED and called it being physical... LOL
This is one of Colin's best ever takes and best ever segments... this is why he blew up and became popular
if he talked more basketball he would be number 1
@@waleedomer1515 na this is a rare good take. 90% of the time u dont want colin talking basketball lmao. and this is coming from a huge colin fan
Why did he stop taking NBA as much? It's crazy cuz this is his bread & butter 🍞 🧈
Wow. I had no idea. If you’d asked me how much older Russ is than Steph I woulda said 6 years. Same age?!?!? Wowww
whether or not i agree with colin, he’s been killing it lately. can’t stop watching
All I can say is, well said. Curry is transcendent. Pure shooter. He could have played in any era and same result. We are just blessed to witness his greatness
Dude shot 5-14 from deep last night; with a hand check that happens every other game
Lol, he’s 43% all time 3point percentage. That stat will never be broken
His handles and passing are tremendously underrated.
As a Knicks fan realizing the Knicks were set on drafting him until Golden State took him one pick before…
@@philr559 wolves had two stabs at him and picked two point guards not named Steph Curry🙃
Curry took the 3-point line that everyone else dabbled and flirted with and said "I'm going to weaponize this".
Like your mom
Colin is definitely on point with this one!!!!
Colin always on point dude his takes be god tier even the ones I don’t agree with are elaborated on well
Westbrook, Cam, Baker, John Wall, Iverson at the end of his career….Colin has been spot on every time. Have to give it to him
That’s true man. It’s hard for fans to give in to their fave players being not near what they used to be, but for the media honest broker he can. To fans that aren’t “fanatic” tho it was pretty easy to see all those players where they were heading. None of them were adaptable
Ngl Bro these are easy takes lmao
@@jacobmontgomery1954 Westbook fell in love with the triple double and thats what killed his career honestly, cause i think he could have lasted longer and been a better player if he adpted like Butler and CP3 and focused on what he does well instead of tryingto prove doubters wrong
We can’t really speak on Wall at the moment
"If you don't get Steph, you don't get basketball". That's Collin at his best. It ended any possible debate. Nailed it BIG TIME, Herdy!
Your spot on Colin! I’m your age and have had GSW season tickets since the 90s…I’m so glad we’re now getting our moneys worth with this “new” NBA game..it requires hard work, a high IQ and more importantly..team play! I’m glad I didn’t give up ISO ball became boring…all the other players just stood around while the bigs made the dunks! That was iconic because of NIKEs ads! What Steph and GSW have accomplished was to save the NBA. More should be expected from these NBA players making $$$ millions in the stratosphere. The word “EPOCH” truly defines the man and the team. Thanks.
facts, one of the reason Spurs dominated the league for so long was cause of ball movement and skilled played while the rest of the league was getting used to losing hand-checking and the addition of zone defense which didnt exist in the 90's and earlier, people think NBA just took away hand-checking and didnt give the defense a weapon to over come losing hand-checking lol...back in the day help defense was a foul by refs in people dont even realise that cause they are more focused on what they lost instead of what they gained
The "he couldn't do it in my era" argument is hilarious. Ok bud, you mean to tell me Dr. J could deal with having to pick up KD 35 feet from the basket and have to meet Giannis and Gobert at the rim in this era? MJ having to actually shoot 10 3s a game to be an efficient offensive player? Bill Russell having to play more than 8 teams a year? If you can say these guys can adjust but guys like LeBron, Curry and KD can't then you're lying to yourself
Every player you named are generational, hall of famers. They would be great in any era, regardless of style of play. They had no limitations.
I hope you're including KD, Curry, LeBron, Giannis and Gobert in there. If you are I completely agree and every old-head should stop making the argument of "in my era..."
If you aren't including the modern players idk what to say to you. Give me a reason why Dr. J Is generational and Curry isn't.
All the players you named. Including the current players. If I talk to someone and they say that " this guy couldn't play in a certain era" , and the player is an all time great, I refuse to talk to them any longer. It's ridiculous.
@@tampatint9958 ah fair play. Yeah that was the purpose of the original comment. It's a useless argument that people on "first take" shows have to make to extend the run time to 30 minutes. Has never held any weight as an actual argument
I agree with your point, but I'm curious why you think mj would have to shoot 10 3's a game to be efficient today?
Congrats to Steph Curry on being the GREATEST shooter of the 3pt who ever lived
not just 3 point shooter, just shooter period.
@@johndelacruz30 not sure about his mid range though. 🤔
@Volrath still wouldn’t put him over Bird.
I’ve have to agree with you for now, but it’s natural progression that somebody else will come along the way and will be an even better shooter than Steph Curry, just think about, he has influenced a lot of the younger generation and you will all see it.
@@ricmolina28 another Ring will that do and finals MVP I already put him past Bird tho
I've always said that shooting is the most important skill in Basketball, and if you are the greatest at it then you could play in every era of Basketball.
Defense is thee most important

@@JAYTHEARTIST2004 both defense and shooting is very important
Those are the very first thing coaches and trainers teach you when you join a team or a camp as a kid
One of the best takes Colin Cowherd has spoken 🏀
Yes !
Lol incredible phil jackson name drop. I love Colin
To be fair Larry bird was also a big time tough guy
And he can shoot anywhere, handle the ball pretty good and knows how to use his height and angles to pass. He is a skilled big guy
7:45 Those are some major words of wisdom. Excellent.
Damn, he bodied this take. That ending with that lebron talk about him adjusting with his 3's and arguably the lakers best 3 point shooter right now, FACTS. This was his best take yet.
Stephen A should take notes
Dayum…that 80’s Pistons / Knicks analogy was a gem…
every new era has their old timers who swear "the game was better back in my day". in the 1980's they were saying the game was better back in the 1950's. same thing, different era.
Punctual & Hardwork. Damn, he’s right.
I like Magic and Chris Paul Aw point guards. True leaders, set the table. Steph is the greatest shooter though.
There’s other ways to set the table then just being a constant ball handler and passing. Stephs other 4 players get easier/better looks than Magic or CP3s teammates ever have.
The GREATEST shooter of all time!
Greatest scorer? Other discussion
I love it when Colin says "bruh"
The hand checking rules changes affect players like Lebron and Kobe a lot more.
Steph's game is a lot about movement and screens. That would've worked just like it did for Reggie.
His quickness with the ball would also make it harder to hand check him when his on the ball, you'll have to do it as soon as he crossed half court.
The more physical defense? Well, they're holding him on every play now. It's just rarely gets called.
The only argument is that they could just hurt him and be done with it. I've heard a couple of former players say that but it's just an anti-sports argument that admits they couldn't really stop him and would have to resort to swiping his ankle.
Lebron and Kobe played before and after hand check and still dominated
Great take! Every once in a while Colin comes with a gem
I like this guy…not very familiar with his show but the couple of times I’ve listened…HE MAKES SENSE…
Uncle Colin dropping jewels yet again! I'm here for it!
Great take on both topics, speaking truth.
Great Take On Steph, Colin! 👍
Punctuality and hard work. Spot on analysis!
Matchup adjustments, hand checking and reach would reduce his numbers.
KD would rock it though. That height and release. So good in any era. I like your bird comparison, but Price, Stockton, Hornecek, Hawkins missing a key element Bird (or Reggie) had; height. Same with steph.
Bruh durant would get his narrow spine snapped wtf u talkin about 😂
@@FoSho949 Doc J, Alex English had the same body as KD. Long and thin. They survived tho. Great players will adopt no matter what.
None of the things you named would stop steph half the guys on the court wouldn’t even know how far out to guard steph he can literally hit shots from nearly half court consistently ain’t no stopping that
You obviously didn't listen to a word hr said. 🙄
Man I wish I understood this message when I was in middle school playing sports. Stubborn don't work, you have to work on skills you are poor at. Makes sense, I would spend more time in the gym.
wow, on point, Colin!
You are killing it today!
as soon as I saw the title of this video I knew Colin was gonna SPIT
Preach 💯
The only reason Curry wouldn’t last in the 80s is because of his ankles. People would constantly be muddying up his landing spots and trying to hurt him.
Right. And the adjustment that they'll make is to surround him w/ a piston badboys type of teamates to protect him at all cost.
good take
Curry's ankles have been fine for the last 6-7 years, I don't know why anyone's still bringing up that one year he missed. And people were trying to hurt everyone in the 80's, fans just got to see more fighting and less basketball.
Fair argument 💯
His ankles got fixed because great PT’s taught him how to use his hips/glutes properly. They didn’t have that quality of doctors back in the 80s and he would have had a short career.
U killed this one.
He could also have added in that not only can Curry handle and shoot, but his ability to shoot so quickly, from so deep, with such little space, off the dribble or the pass, is a set of skills that virtually nobody in history could match. Those skill translate to any era. He'd have flipped the game on it's head no matter what era it was, period. The hand check defense would have done absolutely nothing to him. Elite ball handlers weren't bothered by it at all. Superstars stats didn't change once it was banned, showing it never affected them in the first place.
Westbrook has been the Lakers second best player this season. If you want to look at someone to blame.. blame Anthony Davis. This narrative that Westbrook hasn’t tried to adapt is so far from the truth.
It’s not so much he hasn’t tried, it’s just he isn’t really good at basketball and it’s hurting the team.
@@LeChina LMFAO
@@LeChina He's athletically gifted. He was never in the conversation for any skill ability. He can't handle the ball, pass or shoot. His numbers only look good because of his super high usage, but with his passing come with the turnovers (it's why we look at assist:turnover ratios), with his shooting come the bricks (it's why we look at FG%). And most of his assists were dump-off dunks to Steven Adams. Westbrook really does owe a lot to Adams, all those assists off dunks and all those rebounds that Adams boxed out for but tapped to Westbrook.
If Lebron was smart he would let Westbrook run that offense. Westbrook is the closes thing to Magic Johnson. He can make the game easy for Lebron and AD the same way Magic did with the showtime Lakers
@@cdgates1 this couldn't be more wrong lmao. Westbrook the closest to magic? Lebron has been called the closest thing to magic his whole career
I'm gonna throw it past you.....randy Johnson and curt schilling.... unbelievable talents....
Russ can still work, first 20 games in the NBA are basically the first 4 games in the NFL, adjustments can still be made. Give them 40 games, don't overreact, give him a chance to adjust. The Steph take was A+.
Agreed
It only works when you have a winning record. The Lakers are stuck at .500 25 games in. You dont experiment like this for a team with championship aspirations.
i remember they said the same thing with the 17-18 thunder 😂😂
_AMAZING_ take
Finally someone squashing the "he cannot thrive (survive) the 80's, 90's era."
If Mugsy Bogues and Isiah Thomas could play in the 80’s tough era, why not Steph who is smarter and can shoot better? I don’t understand people who say this
Those guys were tough and not injury prone at the start of their career like steph was
Nailed it again Colin. Well done sir.
"It works forever." Nice take Colin
I just don't see any GM is dumb enough to trade for Westbrook.
I’ve said that so many times. All great people can always adjust to anything. Even on our everyday lives we adjust. It’s a human nature.
the ball movement is also great when Steph is the center of the offense. His assists stats are misleading because it doesn't take into account all of the hockey assists that should be attributed to him. I never believed that Kevin Durant was the best player on the Warriors, I thought the stats were deceptive.
I agree. I never wanted KD to go to the Warrior's because I knew Steph would take a step back, and get over looked because he's Steph.
@@quanemerson1054 that's exactly what I thought. It's easy for a fan to see everything KD does, but the things that Steph does is kinda hard to see and appreciate.
He spewed wisdom in this segment.
This dude yo broke down years of basketball in so little time absolutely amazing reporting yo
This take is so incredible.
Larry bird was also a very tough guy back then, physicality mattered back then.
That was heavy
Colin, you nailed it exactly on the head - "UNAPPOLOGETICALLY STUBBORN" does not work in sports. Or in any kind of work that involves team work.
Trying to talk how underrated steph is because he is the best at shooting and then he is not called the best in the league now even though he is the player on his team that has given them the best record.
How many bricks could a Westbrick brick if a West brick would brick bricks for me
An inability to adapt but mostly an unwillingness to adjust. Westbrook was a known quantity before the season...who with the Lakers accepts responsibility for this clear mistake?
that's what I'm saying, lakers throwing him under the bus...like everyone on the planet knew he wasn't going to adjust. that's dirty
Melo is the Lakers' best 3 point shooter. Just look at his %.
spot on (bullseye)
All facts
Shoot + Dribble + Move
Completely agree about playing in any era. As a number 2 I truly believe Curry is the best 2nd piece in the history of basketball. You put him with any true big No.1 and that combination becomes unbeatable 95% of the time.
Only thing I would say is, he probably wouldn't stay healthy in the 80's. If you recall, he was injured a lot in his early years, but he has a phenomenal strength coach that basically saved his career. Don't think they had that type of help in the 80s.
Curry would dominate in any era..
Amen!!
not a warriors fan but that was a good take on Curry
I actually listen to Colin's sports reasoning.. and he makes so much sense. And that's what makes it entertaining to me.
on point as usual sir but i still believe the BAD BOYS DETROIT (Chauncy Billups and Crew ) Pistons will be on par with GSW of today coz of their physicality in their Era . but PAST IS PAST ANYWAY SO WHY BOTHER 😂
Ngl Colin can get on my nerves sometimes but segments like this reminds me why I keep coming back
I thought this guy was out of his mind for the longest time. And then today we wholeheartedly agreed on the greatness of Steph Curry. Weirdest day of my life so far.
If there was no line painted on the floor Curry is still the best shooter.
Colin just knocked it out of the park.
Colin “Brah That Doesn’t Work Much” Cowherd.
I know a lot of ppl that need to hear this
This is easily Colin’s best take.
It’s hilarious to me. I said this about Westbrook in OKC. But it’s funny how the media is slamming Russ now while he’s with Lebron, but blamed KD for the failures in OKC mainly because Russ stayed. Russ plays hard every night, but he doesn’t necessarily play winning ball. He’s wild and makes awful decisions.
Nobody blamed kd for okc failures 😂
@@TimelessClothing96 Ok
@@TimelessClothing96 Exactly, people RIGHTFULLY blamed Russ back then too. NO ONE blamed KD for leaving. They blamed him for leaving and going to the team that just beat him and won 73 games lol. People had been saying KD needed to leave Westbrick if he ever wanted to win for YEARS! So Idk what this guy is talking about.
@@adgee5401 Idk what you're talking about. You can make your point without creating false narratives that never happened lol. Just say Westbrick sucks and you're a KD fan and leave it at that lol.. No one would criticize you lol.. But all this other made up nonsense is extra. No one blamed KD for OKC's failures. Russ took virtually ALL the blame whenever they'd lose. Especially in the playoffs. And rightfully so because Westbrick is trash!! Magic Johnson himself said Russ played the worst brand of basketball he'd ever witnessed during the finals. Every fan with an opinion, from big sports media personalities, to sports social media influencers, to your everyday barber shop fan would constantly criticize Russ for taking too many shots, not giving KD the ball enough, taking too many threes, and not giving the ball to KD especially in the clutch. So Idk what alternate reality media you were watching back then that was "blaming KD" but it wasn't the same media as the rest of us 😂. The ONLY criticism KD ever got back then was for his decision to go to the 73 win team that just bounced him out of the playoffs. Other than that, KD virtually could do no wrong in the eyes of the media. And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying KD deserved blame, because he didn't. Russ definitely earned and deserved all the criticism and blame that he recieved because he's an overrated, stat padding, triple double obsessed, overhyped loser year after year after year. All I'm saying is, the media definitely did NOT blame KD. For once, they got it right and put the blame where it belonged: right on Westbrick's shoulders. So I'm just lost as to why you're saying "the media is slamming Russ now while he's with LeBron, but blamed KD when him and Russ where in OKC"??? Because that's literally untrue. Russ is being blamed now the same way he was being blamed back then when he was with KD. There's literally no difference lol.
@@GodOfDestructionVegeta27 When I show you otherwise, then what?
Chris Jackson could handle the ball and shoot in the 90's, very underrated player in a golden era of basketball....
Larry Bird was tough, idk what colin is talking about.
When hand checking was king, Steph would have been good, but no where near where he is now would be a safe assessment.
John Starks had flases of greatness but fizzled out with the best of them. Nice dunk on Jordan though!
He's a great defender. Athletic finisher but he's not a good shooter. He's offensive game is limited
Great take from Colin but he went a little far. What other years was Detroit going to win chips? The Pistons' championships were sandwiched between a repeat Showtime Lakers team and the Bulls 1st 3peat
Ummmm yeah Colin that's fundamental basketball being a triple threat dribble pass shoot. There's even a position named after it......
Lmfao I've been saying this for 8 years and I was laughing at the Rockets for giving up Cp3 2 first round picks to OKC for Russell Westbrick and they were actual Rocket fans happy with the trade 😂 all I could do was laugh!
Right now Cp3 is playing/looking great while Russell Westbrick is playing like Russell Westbrick! The most yb
Spoke facts about Steph
Watching athletic display is more exciting than wnba'esk shooting. I want to see dunks.
Roger That .....The Herd Knows....If The Herd don't Know ...He Will Find Out....💯😁
They are asking him to be a basketball player, he’s not. He’s an athlete.
He is the best shooter ever. But let's not act like he came up small in the finals 2 times. And multiple times in the playoffs. The 3-1 choke job (with terrible 4th quarters) and the Raptors finals where he was bad down the stretch is still what I remember from him. But he's still great
I hate when Old players be saying they wouldn’t survive in their era last time I checked you guys were struggling to stop Allen Iverson The same Allen Iverson Who carried a franchise on his back and cross the great Michael Jordan
20 8 8 on 45% shooting I don’t understand what y’all be talking about. Buddy hield was gonna come and give like 15 2 2. Lol
Bruh 🤣🤣🤣
No wants Westbrook lol, the Lakers are going to have offer a first too 💀
Facts, they bought a lemon.
But they can't though
What firsts do they have that teams would want? Their only assets are THT and maybe Nunn who hasnt played. Rest of the roster is either untouchable or unwanted.
Avery Bradley and Carmelo both shoot over 40% from 3, LeBron has got a lot better and is a decent 3 point shooter at 36 % but he is no where near the Lakers best 3 point shooter
Colin, we know you are attempting to relate to the younger audience. However, people who could shoot and dribble, also were tough and were skilled. KD would have gotten hurt. Which would have impacted what he does now. Mj and Bird would have destroyed people today because they destroyed people while getting beat up in the 80s. If that violence is not there, they are even better.
A lot of team's had goons to protect their star player's, so Steph would have been the same.
I have absolutely no problem with Curry, amazing shooter. I wish other had gotten the green light to shoot like he has. To me hes a lot like Carter, thats not a knock hes the greatest dunker, like Curry greatest shooter. I dont think hes ever been the best player even with 2 MVP's but he is elite. Problem isn't the hand check, its the coach allowing players to shoot the shots he does in the 80's because they play through the post. I wish Miller, and Allen, and Price, and Nash had gotten the chance to play in this type of offense because i do believe they would be as efficient
What I actually HATE is putting Steph Curry, Best ALL TIME shooter, in the same youtube video with Westbrick, no shooting, turnover machine. Come on, wheres ur stomach??

I have no problem with all time great players saying that they would have performed better in this era, because ultimately I feel like all timers have the mindset and work ethic to adjust to any era. But when I hear guys like Kenny Smith saying he would EASILY average 25-30 a game, I just lose my braincells. There is a reason why you were a role player back then, just because the style of play has altered from when you were playing that does not mean you will suddenly become an allstar. You were a role player then, you will be a role player in ANY era. Stop belittling and minimizing todays greats to boost your worthless egos oldheads. Because no matter how hard you try, the Kobes and the Lebrons and the KDs will ALWAYS be able to dominate in ANY era PERIOD.
Kenny Smith playing in any era before the 80’s, off of his raw athleticism alone, would not be a role player especially when tv was in black & white.
Speed, vertical and agility translate in any era.
