I was born and raised in Haikou, Hainan. So awesome to see you investigate the most authentic Hainanese Chicken and go all the way to Wenchang lol. Though you can get some pretty decent Wenchang Chicken in Haikou itself. I do think Singapore has a “cleaner” version (without the bones and stuff) of Hainanese Chicken.
Things showed up in your video besides the chicken:
    Get a taxi > 打的
“Bobba Tea Tube” I know that’s a joke lol but it’s a various metal tube wholesale storefront.
    aged salt lemonade > 老盐柠檬水
“Tea House,” is actually “Granpa Tea” or “Papa Tea” > 老爸茶
    Get a three-wheel ride > 坐三轮机车
You should try a bowl of fresh-coconut-water-based 清补凉 “cool you down” next time you visit!

Wow the architecture of the buildings in Wenchang.. it reminds me of the old buildings that the British left behind in Malaysia. Hainan feels like a place that I would feel very at home. Walking around in public in a singlet like an ahpek (old uncle), your friend seems to have lived in Singapore for a long time. Singaporean tip to getting even more kick out of your chicken rice: Together with the chili sauce, a minced ginger paste and a thick black soy sauce is also always provided. Note, this thick black soy sauce is NOT the kind you find in sushi bars, etc. It is a little sweeter from molasses and less salty that the kind commonly found in Chinese/Japanese restaurants (which is known in Singapore as "light soy sauce" 酱
清). Mix in the ginger and thick black soy with your chili sauce to taste. I guarantee it will take the flavour to a whole new level.
Also my personal favourite, to put on the thick black soy sauce liberally on the rice in a big black spiral. It adds even more umami, and a certain richness to the rice. Try it, you might love it as much as I do.

@@woolfel .yesh but mandarin is with a strong biased standard pronunciation, and that's how and why it be created. Mandarin is a language that needs to be pronounced properly or it can't be called as mandarin from Mandarin's definition, with a local accent is actually a kind of mixture, more like a pidging or creolisation between local dialect and mandarin, not only will using their own pronunciation to say. Also, the dialect vocabulary even in some area in China will have different grammar remained from middle-ancient Chinese, is not like other Romanic or Germanic language just can commonly say as it is an accent(no offensive meaning, I know they also have huge different). It will cause confusion even to native Chinese speakers if without some time to adapting that accent. different Chinese dialect is actually with huge different and even cant using to communication at all, so the most time they even not be considered as the same language in Linguistics. For example, my first language is both Chinese and Jiangxi dialect, called Gan-Chinese and Mandarin. The degree of separation for Gan and Mandarin is 33%, but even Spanish and Latin is only about 20% degree of separation, people who only speak mandarin 100% cant understand our dialect and hard to understand a strong Jiangxi accent mandarin, just like that driver with a strong Hainan accent, more south in China, more seriously this accent circumstance will be. If you just in those metropolis areas it won't be that matter cuz most of the people there can speak mandarin properly or with an accent close to standard pronunciation that you can mostly understand (except Shanghai, hard to say local people won't speak Shanghainese to you unless you look like from a foreign country), but if you go to the place like middle-east China, southern China, it will have a big problem.....
And the Beijing accent you mentioned itself is actually false.
There is no Beijing accent, only Mandarin (modern standard Chinese) and Northern Mandarin(a mandarin dialect of Chinese) Beijing dialect.

For many years I've saved chicken bones and other parts that I would use in making stock to make rice. I love plain white rice but rice made with seasoned stock or broth takes it to a whole new level. Since I've become more aware of Asian cuisine, I've now started adding chili sauce, fresh ginger, sesame oil and chopped green onion. Oh and depending on my mood, fish sauce. It may be a bit overkill but makes for a super savory dish. So happy to see you again Andong! Love you, love your videos. XXXOOO (apparently cops every hate being recorded.) Try Malaysia mate, really, not lying. Ive been living in sg for 17 years but once I started living in Malaysia, I would say Malaysia has the upperhand, in depth and variety. There are a few Singaporean hawkers and restaurants that still have that "only here can find" quality in Sg, but mann you should truly explore Malaysian cuisine, it is like the gateway to understanding other SEA cuisines and cultures....

Hainanese Chicken Rice In Singapore was adapted to suit local tastes and influences by Hainanese migrants who came to Singapore that's why you have the spicy chili sauce on the side. The Chili sauce at Tian Tian has calamansi juice in it that was responsible for that fruity citrus flavour. Some stalls use vinegar instead. True to the "use every part of the chicken" mentality, you can order chicken gizzards and/or liver to go with your chicken rice in Singapore.

Timcasp 香is not just referring for smelling. If it referring for food, some aroma have to be “taste” out in your mouth instead “smell” it with your nose. And the meme “真香” specially referring the boy who reject the food, but happily eat them after anyway.

hi Andong, you should try "ayam pop" (ayam means chicken) from Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia. It has some similarities with Hainan Chicken. The chicken is boiled with coconut water only, then quickly fried just for a second before served. They serve with special sambal and white rice. you wont regret is.

I am from the wenchang region of the island, where its origin is supposed to be, the particular taste of the wenchang chicken and the method of preparation. The supposed original doesn't really have a set name or a famous name, it's mainly for offering purpose during the festival ritual to pay respect to the spirit of our ancestors, usually, a large bulk of the chicken is not eaten in my area during the festival and simply being placed on tables for the offering, only part of it is shared between family members. The original recipes are basically the same but not as diversified and decorated later in SE Asia, we might like to mash more ginger in it because Hainanese gingers taste so goddamn good. My mother side's great-grandma told us that her step-mom says the recipe basically exists for as far back as she could remember her childhood, who was born during the mid-1700s to the early 1800s, exact dates unsure due to limited education back in the days

Oh btw, heard Hainanese chicken rice even though named as such, is not from Hainan. It was named this way because before Singapore became independent, we had lots of immigrants from many different areas, including China who worked as labourers. Singapore was originally inhabited by Malays and therefore, our national language is Malay even though our first language is English (confusing I know). When Chinese came to Singapore, they created this dish based on their roots, infused with some local ingredients. And Hainanese chicken rice was created. Many of our dishes are created this way, infused with different cultures. E.g. laksa has noodles and dried shrimp from chinese cuisines and coconut and spice from malay and indian cuisines.

Originally the Hainanise chicken rice comes from Melaka where some Hainanise in Hainan island migrated to the town on Melaka where they are first started with 3 things the rice in ball form, the chicken and lastly the chili. No where in the world even in Singapore can claim how this where made.
