  • The cost to study in Canada this upcoming 2023 is a controversial topic. When deciding to study in Canada, it's necessary to be prepared for the tuition cost, application fees, living expenses, and other fees. I used Vancouver as a point of reference since it is a costly city. If you live in another city, you can expect to pay less.
    In this video, I have outlined some of the possible expenses you may incur. It is meant to serve as your guide. I hope this video can serve as your guide and manage your expectations before embarking on this journey. prepare for your journey Happy holidays and I hope you enjoy! :)

    healthcare; social services; education; or early childhood education.

I'm an aspiring international student from the Philippines, this video was an eye opener for me in regards to the expenses that I need to anticipate. If I may ask, do you think that if I were to apply and (hopefully) be accepted in a school in Vancouver, having my wife with me with an OWP will be enough for us to get by with the expenses?

    Hi Rachel, I've been watching your videos for a month now and your inputs are very helpful. I just wanted to know if an aspiring student will stay with his/her relatives, should he/she ask for a letter from the relative. Should they provide still the proof of funds? any tips for this? Thank you. :)

    • @trishaann5032
      @trishaann5032 Před rokem

      1. As an aspiring student like you, you don't need to stay with a relative in Canada. You survive on your own. It is better if you have a family member or a friend in CA that is willing to provide you a shelter and it is a HUGE SAVING from the monthly expenses. And no, you don't need letter from your relative. Unless you're a minor/underage. That's a different thing.
      2. Yes, you SHOULD provide proof of funds for at least CAD10,000.00 (Php 432,777.55, in $1:43.28 exchange rate). Since Canada is the best country we can think of, they've been very considerate. If you don't have such amount in your account, you can ask for your relatives/friends for their bank statements (multiple bank statement works) that can support the PoF. Just take note that they don't accept collaterals (cars, home titles, jewelries, etc).
      Tips:
      1. If you study for a year, you will be granted with a Post Graduate Work Permit for 1 year only. Check Rachel's video on how she got her Permanent Residence, she struggeld when she was so close to going back to Philippines because she took a 1 year program. Luckily, she managed to have a PR with a 1 year PGWP, it is possible but very risky. If 2 years program, then they will provide you up to 3 years PGWP. 3 years is the maximum PGWP duration. So I suggest you to take a 2 years and up programs.
      2. Make sure that the program you will take as a foreign student relates to what you finished studying here in the Philippines. For example, you finished with a degree in Business Admin, then you should pursue a program like Business Management, etc program that is under Business Admin. UNLESS, you want to take a whole new degree like from BA to Engineering, yes you may, but it will be difficult for you to make your study plan and defend your reasoning.

    • @jolinadorego2825
      @jolinadorego2825 Před 2 lety +1

      Only your direct family members/close relatives can sponsor your studies in Canada as per IRCC policies, and you always have to have a show money for the cost of living (aside from you TF) to satisfy the immigration officer that you have access to funds of your sponsors and/or that you can provide for your needs once you get there. However, you Canadian citizen can't sponsor you unless he is your husband(?), or you have a sponsoring-body/organization that will finance you (it depends but most likely, if an organization granted you a scholarship, they only cover a part of your TF).
      Check the IRCC Official page for more info.

      It is possible to study in Canada without any relative (you even have to consider it as an advantage). If you have a number of relatives/family members in Canada, the immigration officer might consider that as ground for refusal of your study permit since you are a highly potential immigrant. When it comes to sponsorship, your family in the Ph can sponsor you provided that they have enough funds - for the cost of living for one year (10K CAD) + you TF.

You said you studied a graphic design which wasn’t your Bachelors course. so i want to do same too. but what i don’t know is, how will i write my Statement of purpose letter to be concrete enough for the visa officer to accept. Please do a video as regarding this if possible. And another thing is, can i pay my tuition fee in installment? Like What if i dont have the complete money, can i pay if i have only the first year school fees, or only the first term school fees? And can fees like health and dental fee be ignored first? if so, please reply. i’ll be waiting for your response. Thanks.

      *If you want to study a progran in Canada that is not aligned to your previously earned degree, you can use you experience (related to your preferred program) instead, or say if you have a family busines and that inspires you to shift career and that you want to manage it in the future.
      *With regards to your TF in applying for study permit, you are not required to show the full payment of your TF, but you have to show enough funds (can either be yours, your sponsors-family members/relatives) that you can access upon the start of your studies.
      *You can opt-out for medical/dental fees of your school if you already have an insurance

      There are 3 tiers of tuition. Local residents pay the lowest tuition because their tuition is subsidized by the province; then out of province residents; the highest tuition is from international students which can be 5x what the local are paying.

      Replying in case its possible. But i've found that it usually cant be done without money unless you qualify for express entry and can get an employer to hire you before coming but you have to have a specific, in demand skill. It amazes me when people say foreigners mooch off the system when they have more struggles than the average citizen. The only way you could decrease tuition would be to apply for as many student grants, and other financial aid and bursaries locally or see if there are schools that might be willing to cover a portion of fees. But for the majority of cases it is an out of pocket expense (with the exception of loans) and a lot of people have friends or relatives that assist them while they live there. I dont think its impossible but it takes a while and its good to have at least $15-$20k cad to start and work so you can at least stay afloat during your period of study. Pick programs that offer work pathways so employment is likely upon graduation and you will be able to earn your money back for your studies within the first year. Most people do a lot of planning beforehand and get some kind of experience/education in their home country first. Money is the biggest factor. Best of luck
