  • In this video, I hope to answer the question of whether a year of studies in Canada is enough to be selected for PR. I will share my experience, my opinion and most importantly my analysis in answering this question. It’s a longer video than usual but I want to break this concept down so that you guys are better informed on your journey to Canada.

    Thank you for speaking so clearly and knowledged about this topic. So many times when I've asked about this, I get brushed off, when all I need is an example or personal story. Now I see exactly how things can play out, and it's clearer; and things continue to evolve, so no-one can tell the future about this process anyway. Being able to estimate future CRS score is a great help, even with so many what-ifs; at least you'll know what you're working towards. This is exactly what I was looking for. Continued blessings! I hope to get across this river real soon 🙏🏽💕

  • @camesbot
    @camesbot Před 2 lety +4

    Thanks for sharing your experience but I have to disagree with you. Yes a 1 year certificate might be risky for applying trough Express Entry but people tend to forget there are provincial nominations. For example in British Columbia you don’t have to wait for the full year to gain the experience required for express entry… if you for example studied a 1 year program on a DLI, get a PGWP and find a full time job offer in NOC 0, A or B you can apply to PR trough your province. There’s a downside (if you consider it a downside) which is that you are “tied” to the province you got nominated from, in this case BC, therefore you are obligated to live in that province. It’s the same in Ontario but there’s a little bit more requirements and it differs from province to province. In Quebec depends on if you’re doing a graduate certificate, post graduate certificate or masters degree.. you know each province has its own rules. What I recommend is for people to do a proper research of how the provincial nomination works in each province because in most cases you’re not only saving time but money!!! Also if you can afford an ICCRC consultant, do it.. it’ll make things easier.
    I love your videos, thanks for all the advices and experiences you’ve shared so far.

    Hello, thank you so much for the content!! I was wondering what does a "1-year study" exactly means. Is it a 2-semester program? 3-semester program? I would like to know the basis on which CIC considers the length of the program as 1 year so you can be eligible for CRS points. Thank you!

It may take me several months to get in and restart my life again. I feel like the main problem with 1 year PGWP is that you may or not be able to get 1 year of Canadian work experience to qualify for Canadian Experience Class, since this depends on how quickly do you find a job and how long it takes for your PGWP to be approved etc, am I right? I checked out my potential CRS score and I am feeling pretty optimistic (knowing French helps ^^), my only concern is whether or not I'll be able to fulfil the 1 year experience requirement :(

      It really depends. They have to be 1. Both part of the designated learning institution list 2. Both programs must be PGWP-eligible.
      IRCC made a table regarding this matter found here: www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/temporary-residents/study-permits/post-graduation-work-permit-program/permit.html

    The information is not too bad but people should give correct information. If you study 1 year you will get a 1 year PGWP, you study 2 years you'll get a 2 year PGWP (not 3 years) max is 3 year PGWP. If you apply for PR under CEC in Express Entry you can be outside of Canada you don't need to be inside Canada. She could have gone back home and work and come back as soon as she received her PR. I am not sure why the government created CEC saying it does not require education when in reality you can only get enough CRS points when you have education. There was only one draw during Covid 19 time that allowed CEC with CRS points of 75 but this I think is an absolute exemption on Feb. 13, 2021 inviting over 27000 applicants. For me the CEC is primarily good for students who study in Canada and get a PGWP and work in a NOC O, A or B occupation which as per requirement.

    • @rrdancel
      @rrdancel  Před rokem +8

      Katy, I would like to clarify some of your statements:
      1. As per IRCC policy: a 2 year program MAY lead to a 3 year PGWP. The word may is used to give the visa officer discretionary powers in making a decision on granting a 3 year PGWP. In most clear cases, the student that studies a 2 year program gets a 3 year PGWP.
      2. Yes, you are right I could have come back home. However, I took into consideration some challenges during that particular time, which was during the height of COVID. There were travel restrictions, rules, regulations and bands. There were also challenges of gathering documents that are located within Canada which requires personal authorization. All these documents, took some time to gather after I received my ITA. So, I decided it was better to remain here and wait it out. That decision turned out to be the right one as I was able to gather all my documents needed to apply for PR and saved a lot of time and money.
      3. CEC is mainly for anyone with IN CANADA work experience. So, education is not necessary. But, in Canada education leads to a PGWP. PGWP is a type of an open work permit. There are not many types of open work permits. So, with a PGWP, one can get in-Canada work experience. Aside from an open work permit, there is a closed work permit which is extremely hard to get. So, in theory your statement is correct. In practice, it is not necessarily true.
      4. There were many draws during COVID time. The one that you mentioned was just one of many.
