@@annemoncrieff3875 Hi Anne - Well here is the rub. I'm of Irish, Scots and English grandparents. My father was born in 1934 and raised as a Scots Irish Catholic in the Govan tenements. You 'might' have an idea of what this would like depending on your age. Not the myth.. the reality. The parochial attitudes of both communities.
My mother was an English protestant. Her family had no issue with her taking a Scots Irish Catholic husband however my fathers family were not so enthusiastic.
As for your Little Englander comment I bet you could not even tell me the origin of that term. Let me enlighten you. The Little Englanders were a group of Liberal Party members in the 18th/19th century that opposed the expansion of the British Empire. They had envisioned a British Empire of global trade rather than colonial expansion, of technological innovation and personal liberty..
As such I wear that label as a badge of honour. It's what we should be looking for now.. avoid the European Empire at all costs.

I lost my mum and only parent at Hillsborough. I had to go into social services care as result. Thanks so much for making sure a new generation understands just how despicable the scum is, not just to Hillsborough families and survivors, but to all its victims. It destroys people's lives. Would just add that their coverage of disaster was instrumental in ensuring continuing cover up and no justice, as well as smearing victims, us families and survivors. That demonisation continues to this day, eg Spectator magazine. So much better than anything I've seen on Novara Media regarding Hillsborough. Thanks so much once again. X

Then one report said the MOTHER had 3 years worth of the videos as proof. What ,the everlovin Mother was keeping and viewing the tapes of her daughter/sons performances to mark the really dirty bits. Now that is pervy. We were told that this MOTHER went into her offsprings bedroom just as the show was about to start and on the monitor she saw the paying customer in just his pants leaning eagerly forward. And that was the clinching proof of wickedness. Wait a minute, the MOTHER closed the door and left them to it as presumably she had the recording and editing to do. She did not,it seems, exclaim to her kid,"what the hell are you doing, why are you dressed ,or undressed ,like that, whose that person on that tv screen,WHATS GOING ON HERE?". The real story is that Murdoch wants to kill the BBC. He visited Boris Johnson and whilst playing with his youngest son told him that he should destroy the BBC because his media outlets couldn't compete with it.
Now, when you realise that the Conservatives during the last 13 years appointed their mates to the Board of Governors, who in turn appointed former employees of Murdoch's from the News of the World to the top jobs in the BBC's TV and Radio News departments to curate their output, made it compulsory for anyone opening a radio station that broadcasts news bulletins to use output from Sky News, and awarded Sky News the contract for satellite broadcasting in the UK, it might reasonable to say that Murdoch has been amply rewarded for backing the Tories. Notwithstanding the dangerous sense of Murdoch's entitlement, he is poison. Not only here, but anywhere in the world he has outlets. He's human, but one that is pretty awful. You think Succession was just entertainment? Who do you think was the inspiration for Logan Roy? Murdoch was, and there are more billionaires like him out there, who think because they are rich that they are qualified and entitled to run the world. And have proved to be pretty catastrophic at it. Why? Because they're human, and flawed, yet wield so much power and influence, that when they get it wrong whole communities and countries get damaged. They are mental locusts, driven by bad instincts and hungry egos, and they don't care about anything else but their "Empires of Shit" as Jesse Armstrong, the main writer of Succession so eloquently and deservedly stated it through his character Ewan Roy. That's all Murdoch and anyone of his ilk leaves behind them.

spot on with the analogy to the printing press & social media / internet... Murdoch puts the Times behind a paywall . so spot on about the Age of their readers/subscribers being the only reason they can get people to pay them that way. The Guardian's model shows they understand what the long game is... as do the BBC i think. Murdoch's empire, like all empires has it's time and Murdoch has less influence than russia when it comes to influencing voters now.

I've no doubt that these cases would have been floating around the BBC but had not been investigated. There where rumours of Saville crimes in the BBC but nothing was done. The BBC should have learnt from that. An organisation with their sort of track record should be aware of what staff are saying even if complaints aren't officially made simply because there is a power dynamic involved
