  • In November 2022, the City of Marco Island Island started the Hideaway Beach and Sanddollar Island construction project. This dredging project is located on the northwest tip of Marco Island in and around Tigertail Beach.
This video captures unique aerial views of the excavation happening live where you’ll see the workers in action operating excavators and dredging equipment and moving tons of sand from one location to another. It also shows how enormous the job is, as well as the vast areas impacted.

Great footage. So interesting to see the process - it’s such an enormous project. Nice job Paul!

This is a nice bit of propaganda. Dredging out a productive tidal flat and removing 6 acres of prime sea turtle nesting habitat to “protect the environment.” If there had been ANY environmental surveys done, you’d have found a vibrant ecosystem in that shallow lagoon, complete with spawning horseshoe crab and the critically endangered smalltooth sawfish populations.
Fact is, this project is so rich people at Hideaway beach don’t have to deal with the smells and insects associated with living beside a natural Florida environment, and their money is more important than the federally protected species that lived there. Absolute garbage project.

I can't believe this is happening. I can believe somebody approve this.

Waste of money, dry sand doesn't compact and gets washed right out. Dredged sand pumped under pressure with water compacts naturally hard. I have no idea why people do this, studies prove my point and it's also very evident in places like Volusia County where once the sea walls are breached the dry trucked in sand behind them erodes extremely fast. Smh

Thanks for your comments. They are actually dredging and pumping sand with water and also moving wet sand. I’ll be posting another video soon showing that process in action too.

BeachBuilder25, thank you for your efforts on presenting the facts. Apparently Paul has no clue to what you were referring to with the dredging and compacting the sand.

@@artsisland1683 No idea who Paul is but maybe the contractor is his brother in law because I stand behind my statement, dry sand is a waste of money.

Thank you both for your comments. I don’t claim to have any knowledge of dredging. I only produced the video and am in no way affiliated with the construction company. The only point I was making was that they are also moving wet sand by the truckload and also doing dredging with compacted wet sand which is what I thought you said was needed. Stay tuned for my next video which will show that too. Thanks again.

It's sad that people would go to a beach and be happy to see giant Tonka trucks destroying habitat. You can stay up north and watch trucks move trash at landfills.

Just horrifying that you did this to a Critical Wildlife Area, because the Hideaway Beach residents wanted it. You have destroyed so much of this important habitat. Shame. Shame. Like watching a brutal rape set to chirpy music.

@@halljean1 Hi Jean, Thanks very much for taking the time to comment. As I am sure you are aware, I only produced the video and have nothing at all to do with the actual dredging project itself. BTW - There's an update on the progress you can view by following this link: czcams.com/video/HOFTQVfc5_I/video.html

Waste of tax payer money. A natural occuring island (sand bar) needs no interference from ignorant human intervention. Sand will come and go, and you can not stop this fact. All humans can do is alter short term effects. The end result will be whatever mother nature wants. Waste of our tax dollars.
