The irony is that Sweden and France had been allies for a couple hundred years, and even after Gustav IV Adolf's foolishness Sweden was relatively pro-French. Hence the election of Bernadotte. However, Napoleon's policy of irritating Sweden as an outgrowth of his personal dislike of Bernadotte eventually led to a break when France, with no warning, attacked and occupied Swedish Pomerania. After that there was but one course of action for Sweden: Form a new Coalition with Britain and Russia. The genius of Bernadotte's policy was that he wasn't bound by the age-old rivalry with Russia. He could, and did, make peace with Russia if it meant furthering Sweden's aims in the present. And he let Finland to break the cycle of wars with Russia; wars Sweden could no longer afford. And in naming Norway as his price for landing troops in Germany, instead of the war against Denmark that better suited Swedish interests, he would break the cycle of wars between Denmark and Sweden as well. The result has been peace since 1814 between the Nordic nations.
