      Yea I love it. I think most of these devices you can't really expect perfection, but for what it is, I think the build quality is great. I'm one that doesn't mind getting inside these units. I find improving them is part of the fun and a metagame within itself. But that's just me. Like I said in the video, I love handhelds and if there's a specific unit I like, I'll then find my own ways to improve it if I must. Thanks for the video on this! I have the Win 3 and I'm very happy with it so far. I will probably get this Win 4 later or get the Win Mini that just came out. I use this device mostly for remote work (replaced my laptop) with a docking station, and of course I do some gaming on it. I remote into my main computer at home if I need the extra horse power to get things done, but also I can remote play using Parsec. These small computers are very convenient, and they are the perfect UMPC I always wanted many years ago. They had some UMPC's in Korea (early 2000's) that I got my hands on from my Korean friend , that had Windows Ce as the OS. These GPD devices remind me of those PC's I had, only in modern times. They were around the same size too. We are very fortunate to have these awesome PC's these days.

      Thanks a lot!
      Nah, adding a thermal pad to the M.2 won't do anything as the M.2 doesn't actually come into contact with any heatsink. The thermal pads themselves don't dissipate heat, but rather help spread the heat to the heatsink. Same as what thermal paste does for CPU/GPU cores for examples upon contact. I'm no expert so my explanation may not be 100% accurate, but hope this helps create a better understanding :)

    For those wondering why CRUCIAL is literally like the ONLY SSD you can use for this is because its lack of DRAM, and it's one sided, meaning it fits within the voltage envelope that GPD allots that slot which I think is like 1.7v if I remember correctly and like proper 2 sided DRAM CACHED SSDs are like 3v normally. I did this mod to both of my Win Max 2s (2022 and 2023). Took forever to find these SSDs, though, weirdly the new GPD Win 4 2023 seems to support double sided M.2s. Or maybe they're also using a similar Crucial style M.2, since they do offer a 4TB version, which I picked up also.

    • @notdrowninginyoursea
      @notdrowninginyoursea Před 8 měsíci +2

      Nah, they're not the only make of large single-sided m.2 drives. At the very least, all the Samsung 990 Pros are single-sided, including the 4TB model. Chucked one in my GPD Win 4 2023, works fine.

      Gonna keep the Win 4 with the 6800U as I think it's plenty powerful for what it is. Unless they offer a drop in solution to upgrade the motherboard like Ayaneo is doing for the Ayaneo 2 with the announcement of the updated 7840U model in the 2S. Could then make a motherboard upgrade video on the Win 4 if they do that.
      I have however ordered a Geek 1S with the 7840U and 32GB DDR5 - the new Nebula Purple colour. Early bird pricing on their Indiegogo at the moment.
      Keen to get my hands on that unit too. I haven't played with any Ayaneo device before and the pricing seemed great to me.
      I think the GPD Win Mini will be priced similarly, or the updated Win 4 - wait and see, shouldn't be too far from a new announcement. I think they said June for the Win Mini campaign start.

      @@19CD91 I kind of agree I find having a USB A kind of a necessity for being able to use USB drives or able to copy files from a external drive or from pictures/videos from my phone. Though I believe there are USB C to USB A and HDMI dongles that can be used on the USB C slot to give the new oculink version a USB A and HMDI slots. I did some research and found some stuff like that that may solve this issue. No reason it shouldn’t work I hope. Last time I checked there was one for just 20$ or so of amazon. One of the devices I saw had 3 USB A female/in, 1 HDMI/female/in, a USB C female/in, a micro SD card and SD card slot and a single USB C make/out to plug into the USB C slot on device/ GPD WIN 4. Just plug one of these into one of the Oculink version’s USB C slot and USB A and HDMI problem solved 😊

      @@aaronsharry2351 I just don't want to resort to carrying a bunch of adapters. USB A is still the most used PC port. I have a 16gb 2tb, but when I launch the last of us, the game says vRAM usage is WAY too high. How are you not even close to the cap? And how are you running everything at ultra? Do you have the 32gb model?

    • @SimpleModz
      @SimpleModz  Před rokem +1

      When you see me run the game at ultra, notice before that I change to game streaming before launching it for that part of the video, just to show how good the performance can be over home WiFi. In the beginning when I play it, that's native at 30fps, 28w combination of low to medium settings. But I don't like running it at 28W as it's dead in an hour. So I game stream from my main PC with a 3090, all maxed out maxed out and runs for 5 hours plus. I just posted another video specifically about my game streaming set up. If people are keen, I can make a tutorial too :)

    • @SimpleModz

      I also have the 16GB version. I wiped the original OS however and installed Win 11 Ghost Spectre, which is like Tiny11 but better in my opinion. Has built in tool to clear RAM and usually for running The Last of Us Part 1 natively at 28W, I have to close pretty much all background apps, clear the RAM and only assign 3.5GB VRAM in the BIOS, with 4GB VRAM in the BIOS I find that I can't launch it at all. Unfortunately the game is still quite poorly optimised for APUs.

    lmao thermal grizzly. trash product. you want the best paste possible? arctic silver 5. but that would mean masking off those little micro components because AS5 is electrically conductive. clear nail polish would work. then slather up the chip in AS5, and it will be 5-10c cooler than thermal grizzly (after the 50-200 hour break-in period) you should also manually spread the paste yourself for 100% chip coverage. any gap will cause overheating and issues because there is no IHS. its direct die cooling.
