They kinda did with the lindholme trade. Imo he was the best pickup this year.

Lindholm was a great pick up. and they gave them the one guy in their top 6 that wasn’t working out for Vancouver and avoided shaking up the locker room
If the Canucks traded for Zadorov and Lindholm today would anyone be saying the same thing? Nope.. lmao. Vegas went all in and they're in a second wild card spot. Canucks have zero rush.

They were on the way to a dynasty until the offseason insanity.
Truba and another great D left and then they found out that buff wasn't coming back.
If I remember correctly, they went from having the most versatile and physical top 4 I've seen. Then lost 3 because of buff timing

@@mikenighbor4524they basically lost Byfuglien, Myers, Trouba and Chiarot in one off-season. Only Morrissey stayed of their defense core. We haven't seen a similar mass exodus of defense in the league since, no wonder it took 6 years for them to come back to similar form. Laine scored 44 goals that 2017-2018 season and looked great in the post-season. They had a real shot at the cup but Vegas shut them down.
I’m very optimistic about Kuznetsov. I think between having resources like Justin Williams, Tripp Tracy (who has been very public and vocal about his past addiction related issues, and develops a great relationship with the guys, and is just all around a wholesome fellow), as well as Dmitry Orlov (kuzy’s bestie), and young Russians like PK who look up to him, and Rod who extracts every drop of juice from his guys, and his own presser today, he should be able to turn this around!

Putting him with Necas has been great so far too. Having a center that can keep up with his faster play style seems like it could be dangerous
I think the Kostin trade was more about making room for Berggren than about Kostin's play, even though he had flaws in his game. From how much Yzerman praised him and Edvinsson, maybe he feels it's time to get them into the NHL for good. Simek is already in the AHL, so the Griffins will still have the same number of defensemen if they do call him up too.

Winnipeg has been under appreciated for so long. I know they slumped a little into the season, but adding Toffoli to that group is terrifying.
If Macrimmon is a poker player, he's that guy that goes all-in on every hand, even with a starting 2 and 7. Man is either crazy or a genius. Or both.

Dude that hertl trade was the craziest deadline trade I've seen in a while. I know people hate Vegas for their cap shenanigans but I dont really have a problem. They're not breaking any rules and if the nhl has an issue with it they should change the rules.
On the other hand I think that my poor leafs just had a huge L of a deadline. Not one needle mover. It is what it is 😐

100% agree with you on both fronts. Looks like Treliving is mailing it in. I think he really changed his mind on their chances after the two losses from Boston. I do also like the Jets though, and I'm really loving their deadline acquisitions. I think they're going far this year.
Colorado, Florida, Carolina NYR and Vegas look like absolute units this year though.
@Gergentine everyone was saying that treliving was a terrible gm when he came in and I knew about his calgary moves but I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. After this deadline, I'm kinda agreeing with them. Edmundson might actually make us worse and the price he paid compared to the price of other better players that got traded, just brutal. Like even a guy like Troy stetcher woulda been better and cheaper and right handed. I think I've lost faith in him
@michaelb5119 people say garbage all the time. Also I have no idea if shanny kept him from trading the first rounder. They've been giving them away like candy the past few years. Also a large part is on the team as well. They still cower away from rough play too much.

He has made a nice impact on the Lightning.
A goal in both of his first two games on the team, and he got an assist last night against the Panthers.
The Lightning have gone 3-0 since Duclair/Dumba were traded to the team.
Thank you for not being a hater of VGK. I’m not even a fan of the team but love watching the “franchise mode”. It keeps hockey fun while my team sucks.

Right there with ya! Would be a different story if they were breaking any rules. But the NHL allows it, more teams should take advantage.
a 3rd for allen was an awesome return based stricly off the fact that were going with 2 goalies now. we all hated the 3 goalies things and were happy that time is over. best of luck in new jersey allen!

They had nothing to do. No point buying as they dont have preasure to win and no point selling as its good to have playoff experience.

This is a terrible return for the sharks. They gave up more assets than they received. Doesn’t matter about hertls salary should never give up more for a player of his caliber especially to your division rival.

West has been underrated all season with East Coast bias claiming West is weaker. Well, I'd rather face any team in the East outside of Florida than go through the blood bath of Winnipeg, Dallas, Vegas, Edmonton, Colorado, Vancouver. East's top teams overrated af other than Florida
Kings missing on Ullmark is huge. I really thought they were gonna weasel their way out of the Dubois contract with that trade. Sucks that they couldn't find an alternative trade to get a starting goaltender though.
why would boston want PLDiva? i know he's a center with talent, but he dogs it all the time and he's whiny and his attitude is just generally toxic.

@@doaftheloafBoston needs center depth, and he was rumored to be going to Boston for Ullmark. I'm sure other pieces were involved. Also he has stepped his game up recently, so he has more value than you think.

san jose will be a young team for a long time.. they will have bunch of guys on ELC and first contracts, 1.3m in Hertl dead cap wont matter.
Salary cap will be higher too

As a flames fan, I’m angry with the Hertl trade because now I have to wait till 2026 for our first round pick.
Bruins were more active than I thought they'll be and I like those small moves. Glad they didn't try to go all in once again.

I'm not upset with the LTIR rules in isolation (I'm a TB fan, it would be hypocritical), but this is the third year in a row that Vegas placed Stone on LTIR just before the deadline. At some point it becomes ridiculous.
All legit injuries though. You don't just fake back surgery or a lacerated spleen. Also, the NHL can (and has) had third party physicians verify LTIR diagnoses.
Hurtl will be awesome on & off the ice lots over 6 years. The house doesn't always win, but I respect VGK for the math, etc., skills.
Getting injured is not the issue, not being ready to return until the playoffs ( every fucking time) is.
I think they would rather have Stone in the lineup than that cap.
Depending on how free spending GMs are this summer, there may not be much of a need to retain salary next year so SJS probably won't need that 3rd retention place. Also, Stone may be more hurt than we think, Hertl may be a simple replacement
The condition on the 5th from the Flames is that it will be the better of the 5th round picks that Chicago owns
There will be a time when the rules will change and the Mark Stone LTIR Shenanigans won't be possible. I'm looking forward to this day. Kind of sick of it.

The only good move by Fitz was to dump Vanecek's contract. The Toffoli trade is a pure fleece by Winnipeg. Allen could be a solid backup, but we still need a no.1 starter for next year.
The Red Wings did very little which didn't surprise me considering their deep prospect pool. I am all in for the Jets this season.

I think the Sharks get a retention slot back next season with Burns coming off the books…I might be wrong though.
Burns doesn’t come off the books until summer of 2025 unfortunately
It is a saaaaaddddd day in sharks history. Trading the beating heart of the team (and 2! 3rd round picks) to the arch enemy for what amounts to 2 firsts is terrible. Very very sad.

Less is more. Its seen so often. Florida for example did great. Good mid6 Tarasenko, experienced bot6 Okposo and 3rd/4th goalie Hellberg. No point doing more.
Carolina should have stopped after Guentzel. He was just what they needed, goal scoring. But then they added Kuznetsov and now they have to fix lines rest of the season 🤦
Vegas just puts everybody to ltir and buys whatever they get. I hope they miss playoffs like two seasons ago as they were doing same.
It was good that Vancouver didnt do anything last days. Just make Lindholm work and they have great roster.
Dallas did very well. One good dman was just what they needed.
Edmonton was great. Henrique and Perry were good picks for that team. Also couple depth players.
Winnipeg was fine. But adding two top6/9 forward is risky. Didnt go well last year by Rangers or year be4 that by Florida for example.
Toronto was fine. Couple dman is good to have. At their position its not really easy to make big moves.
Detroit is at position where doing nothing is exactly right thing.
NYR should have say yes to trade Kakko and 1st for Vatrano and Henrique. East is just now open and their window is now. Couple years and Red wings, Sabres, Devils and Senators are real deal. Wenberg and Roslovic are something but not same.
Colorado went too wild. After that upgrade from Johansen and Byram to Mittlestad and Walker they didnt really need anything else than 2nd/3rd goalie mayby. Too many new faces that need to get in to their game and lines.
I think if you include the monahan trade, jets have easily had the best trade deadline
As a Caps fan, its sad to see Kuznetsov go but given the circumstances, I was happy/surprised that we got anything back at all. That said, I think a change of scenery could unlock the real Kuznetsov and Carolina will end up loving this.
I believe too many people overlook the value of a dman like Peeke. When he played a full season last year he had 180 hits and 197 blocks which i believe was 2nd in the league. Hes also managed to stay healthy despite putting his body through that abuse. I wish him all the best but hope Boston is out by the 1st rd. Lol

Don’t think the Dumba trade does much other than prevents Tampa from playing 5 d almost every night the wings were smart to dump Blashill and this is one of the many reasons why

Exactly. Everyone says Rod is a stand up guy. Seeing him around, he seems to be and commands respect. People underestimate what its like to be in a place you are not happy at. Kuzy wanted out of DC for a while now, getting a fresh start, with a guy like Rod, assistants like Gleason, he may just bounce back.
they actually already met when Rod coached Kuzy at an all star game. They both had quotes about eachother, Kuzy saying he really liked rods style and rod saying that kuzy was basically the biggest surprise of the all star weekend with his great attitude and awesome skill. Also of note is that Kuzys best friend is orlov...
He looked incredibly happy yesterday at practice with Rod and the guys. Hasn't smiled like that in a while it seems.

Really? In Vegas's case, if they don't make the playoffs what exactly are they out now? They will sign Hanafin to a new contract. Hertl's signed for longer. Martinez is going to leave, probably marchy, and mabye stephenson and carrier. With the salary cap bump it will give them around 16.5 million to sign Hanafin, and pick up some new guys. Or they resign Marchy and have about 10 million to sign Hanafin and a couple of guys.
@@bustertn2014I'm assuming Hertl is a long-term Stephenson replacement. As a Knights fan, I'd prefer Vegas to make the playoffs, but last year, they won the Cup, and the year before that they missed the playoffs.
I'd love for then to win another Cup, but I'm just along for the ride now.

I’m sorry but there absolutely is risk involved with signing established players. Just because they’re good doesn’t necessarily mean they’re a good fit for the team they’re being traded to. It’s happened countless times in the past.

Hertl was the heart and soul of the Sharks. Now the franchise is in ruins. We did need a rebuild, but not this way. The return is so terrible as well. It wouldn´t be good even if those thirds were going the other way. Mike Grier needs to be fired asap. #FireGrier

U need to read more. The league DID investigate Vegas last year buttercup due to complaints. They found the injury and timing were legit.
