Today I'm painting a beautiful English country cottage garden in an old fashioned style, focusing on negative painting, layering a glazing. If you are interested in the full, in-depth process, please follow the link above to my Patreon page where there is an exclusive 4 part series including reference photos and special tips and more in-depth tuition.
I'm using Millford cold pressed 140lb/300g weight paper, 11" x 15"/28cm x 38cm, and various brushes as mentioned in the video, but use what whatever brushes and paper you are happiest with.

Thanks ever so much for sharing something quite different and simply exquisite. I can't wait to try my hand at this by following your wonderful instructions, as always. Perhaps more like this? Although I must confess I love everything that you paint. You are such a brilliantly talented artist and teacher. Again, I thank you for sharing. 👩‍🦳🖌️🌹

What a lovely traditional English scene. I can nearly hear the singing of summer birds from near by trees. Imagine coming in from a hot day out, and this view greeted you as you approached the front gate. And you knew that within 5 minutes, some ancient wooden garden furniture would be employed to the rear of the cottage, whist sitting on it enjoying a mug of your favourite brew. I truly love the way your paintings can conjure a comforting wandering of my mind. You don't need me to be shouting out with awe at the classy work you produce, everyone else has already done that. TTFN.

Lovely! Reminds me of the Victorian watercolour artist, Helen Allingham. Her paintings capture the rural scenes of cottage gardens bursting with flowers. Thank you!

Thanks so much for your feedback, funnily enough, Helen Allingham was the inspiration for this interpretation of my photo so I'm thrilled that you got that vibe from it ♥☺

@@LoisDavidsonArt I expect you know then, that she experienced a struggle to be recognised as a woman painter in a male dominated society? She was not allowed to become a member of the Royal Academy Schools until 1860. Thankfully she made it in the end, as an illustrator.

Just beautiful. I did a rendition of your window with the climbing roses, a while back. I changed the roses to wisteria. I gifted it to a friend, and she has it framed in her sunroom. Thank you!

I’m just wondering if you prefer to paint negative versus using masking fluid and why? Beautiful painting. I’m just a beginner. I usually do acrylics but have started to try watercolour.

I prefer negative painting as the technique is fresher
