      Thank you very much! I had to wear a bow tie to an occasion, and this video was of paramount help! I have one question, however. In your opinion, what do you think is a good relative size for the bow tie? I am worried about making it too big or too small for an upcoming wedding of great importance.

    • @Offshoreorganbuilder
      @Offshoreorganbuilder  Před 10 lety

      Esa Ahmad Although the length of a bow tie is not super-critical, there is, in fact, only one correct size for your own collar. At the perfect length, and when adjusted correctly, tied and tightened, both the bows (front and back) should have their fold lines *exactly* halfway across the body of the 'fish.'
      If the tie is too long, when you start, one or other of the bows will be folded in a place other than across the centre of the body. Also, you will find that you have too much material to work with as you are tightening and adjusting.
      If the tie is too short, again, one of the folds will be off-centre and you will be struggling to manipulate too little material. The whole thing will tend to be on the small side.
      In actual practice, there is some leeway. As long as the front bow (the one which shows) folds correctly, and you have enough material to tie the whole thing comfortably, it does not matter if the back bow is a bit 'off.,' as it cannot be seen.
      Thanks for your question, and have a great time at the wedding.

I have had one or two comments that the whole thing is too slow, but if you can't spend 10 minutes of your life learning how to do something - anything - properly, then you're *too darned impatient* to tie a bow tie! (In my opinion.) Thanks for the message, and enjoy your tie tying.

    From the hoards of bow tie tuition videos on youtube it's this five year-old, 240p video that's the best by a country mile. You Tube has 'hidden' about 3,500 of your comments, because, 'they are probably spam.' In addition, they have jumbled up all the comments, so that my replies do not necessarily appear after the comment to which I replied. So the whole thing now makes much less sense (if any!) At the moment, I can find no way to reverse this.
    The sheer arrogance of You Tube amazes me.

    Over 1,360,000 watched this video in search of that elusive prize, the perfectly-tied bow tie. Judging from the comments, most succeeded, which is great news, and a decisive blow to that pretender, charlatan, and offence to the eye *the clip-on*!
    *Be gone*, crumpled jeans, ties at half-mast and shirts with the top button permanently undone. * Away* with images of young men, sprawled, with knees wide apart, clutching a glass of booze. *Banish* the 'designer stubble.' that pathetic excuse for being too lazy to shave in the mornings.
    Keep up the good work, spread the news and have a excellent, healthy, prosperous and smartly turned-out, 2015!

    • @mikerossscuba

      Offshoreorganbuilder Good tutorial! I, too, have inveighed against the prevailing designer stubble, "Unmade Bed," Hipster-look now degrading what used to politely be called "dressing." Every time I see the obvious clip-ons that the odious now unabashedly sport, I half-expect them to use it to squirt at someone with a skein of water. Another prevailing offense is the use of a long black tie with a dinner suit/tux, turning it into a "funeral suit" (OK for kids or Hollywood types who can't tie a bow tie, but now middle-aged crisis men are adopting this hipster fad).

    • @Offshoreorganbuilder
      @Offshoreorganbuilder  Před 9 lety +1

      mikerossscuba You make some sound points. Perhaps we should also add to the list of activities to be banned as an offence to the eye: the bald man with a ring of hair, which he grows long and straggly (even with a pony-tail, if he can manage it), anyone with 'designer'-faded jeans, jeans themselves (unless needed as work clothes), anyone who presumes to tell another person that they cannot wear socks with sandals, "Because you just can't do that," anyone who cannot use, with confidence, the apostrophe 'S' (in this case, mandatory grammar lessons could be imposed, until the basics, at least, have been grasped) etc. etc. I can imagine a whole new website for the listing of such offences, together with suggested cures. Perhaps one already exists?
      Thanks for the interesting comment.

    • @Offshoreorganbuilder
      @Offshoreorganbuilder  Před 5 lety +1

      Sadly, when commenting is possible for millions of people, you always get the cranks who think they will run down something which most people appreciate. It's a form of vandalism. For instance, I put on a tribute video for the friends and relatives of someone who had died. It had no narration, just a series of images with explanations, and of no interest to anyone who did not know the man. Predictably, it got a few 'dislikes' - a sad reflection on the people who pressed the 'thumbs down' option.
      Then again, there are the people with the attention span of a gnat, for whom 10 minutes of their life is just too long to spend watching something like this. I doubt if they will ever learn how to tie a bow tie, and that's their loss, of course.
      Thanks for the comment.

    • @Offshoreorganbuilder
      @Offshoreorganbuilder  Před 4 lety

      @@hellbenderdesign The less-than-clear image is due to a rather poor camera, and the fact that this was a first attempt, made in one take, several years ago, when You Tube videos were not as easy to make and present in good quality.
      I have made one or two other videos on different subjects, and I think they all show clearer images than this one.
      I leave it up, because it is evidently helpful to many people.

But when I finally found your video I tied it on the second try! ALL OTHER BOW TIE HOW TO VIDEOS ON CZcams PALE IN COMPARISON TO YOURS! Thank you so much and please keep being the benevolent soul you are!

      Thanks for your kind words! Sorry it has taken so long to reply to you. You Tube has started to show comments made on this video 5 - 10 years ago ... comments which I have not yet seen!
      Good to hear of your success.

    This is the best - clear presentation, slow enough to follow and the explanation is a model of clarity. Thank you!

      Thanks for your appreciative comment. It's especially good to know that you found the pace to your liking. With a little practice you'll be tying a bow tie in under 2 minutes!

    I struggled and was ultimately unsuccessful in learning how to tie a bow tie with several other videos and considerable amounts of practice, and after two tries with your method I was able to tie it successfully!
    I am probably slower than most, so I really appreciate your in depth and extremely helpful video.

      Thanks, and well done!
      (And to think, some buffoon actually thought I was being long-winded!)
      (Due to the wonders of You Tube, I am now seeing, for the first time, some comments from years ago.
      So, apologies for not having replied until now.)

    This is definitely the best bow tie tying video out of the rest. It would have taken me way too long to learn without any of the tricks you showed us. Thank you so much.

      Ben Mayer It took me TWO WEEKS of struggling in front of a mirror, with the printed so-called 'instructions' before I sorted this out, so I feel for you! Good to know that you are now on the right track, and thanks for the contact.

    Of all of the videos I've watched on tying a bowtie, this one succeeded for me. Thank you!

      I'm glad that you found me in the end, and that you had success.
      Thanks for writing in. Now you can have fun, looking down on all those people who can't tie their own bow tie!

    Best video on how to tie a bow tie - and I have viewed many. Thank you!

      RGHS IT It sometimes puzzles me why people try many other videos before this on - as it has the largest view count, number of likes and so on. I can only guess that, at almost 10 minutes, it is one of the longest. Still, Im very glad that you found it worked for you, and thanks for writing in. (Sorry for the lack of apostrophes, by the way. I am in Italy at present, and they dont seem to have such things!)

    Thank you so, so much!!! I've been trying for years to learn how to do this, and no video or web site explained it as well as you did. I think filming it using a mirror was brilliant and exactly what I needed. I was able to put my phone by the mirror and mimic exactly what I saw in the video. Your slow and deliberate approach was perfect, allowing me to finally understand and fully absorb what was going on. I looked really good tonight sporting my new bow tie, and the great thing is, thanks to your excellent instruction, I remember how to do it for next time. Thank you so so much for this video!!! It has been greatly appreciated!!!

      +M D Thanks for writing back so fully. As you say, the whole idea of showing a mirror image is so that the 'victim' (sorry, viewer) can tie along with the video, whilst watching in a mirror.
      Good to hear of your success!

    Brilliant! Manipulating the tie to show all the angles was a great help. After watching this video, I was able to tie it perfectly for the first time ever.
    Cheers, sir!

      My pleasure, and I'm glad to hear that you did so well with your tie. (It's all in the finishing!)
      If you follow this method until it becomes second-nature, you will *always* be able to tie the perfect tie.
      Thanks for your feedback.
