The 993 Turbo did 0-60 in 3.7s with 400hp and AWD, this car has 365hp and RWD but the benefit of PDK and launch mode
@Damon Wayans unfortunately better, more efficient, and more powerful engines don't always mean better sound. Sports cars might not be making sound at all 5 years from now

I attended a Porsche Experience track day recently and drove the following on the local road track: 911 GTS, 911T, Cayman S and Boxster GTS.. The Boxster was the best handling of the bunch (of course the 911 GTS had the most power). After my stint in the Boxster someone came up and asked me what I thought of the sound..Sound? I hadn't even thought about it. I honestly didn't even notice the sound at all. I was just having too much fun driving to care.
Yes youre not really listening to the engine noise its so much fun to drive

Vee Macks the more views the channel gets, the more beneficial it is for carwow. Like i said before, not everyone who watches these videos, watches it because they are going to buy the car.. a lot of it is down to Matt and entertainment purposes.
Same way celeb endorsement (yianni) drives views to the channel, a retro car wow would do very well also. The more views they are, surely the more likely they are to convert that into a sale..
The only reason they exist and make these videos is to sell cars. That's like Walmart doing a commercial for something they don't sell. Not gonna happen.

I’ve owned a 981 cayman S and now have a 718 cayman S. Unpopular opinion: The 718 engine note sounds great, its loud and cracks and pops. I’m constantly scaring my neighbours haha. I actually prefer it at low to medium revs than the 981 however the flat six is so much better in the high revs. I think the 718 is one of the best sounding 4 pots you can get.

Sry had the 981, different not crazy worse juz different. What l can say 4sure is they are worlds apart in performance.

Thanks Matt for a lovely review. I have owned a 718 for over a year. I agree with all your comments except the basic sound system, which is my view of very good quality [I have owned multiple other cars with Bose or Bang & Olufsen]. This is more so because of the small cabin and the relatively noisy engine.

The 718 Spyder seems like the dream car! Same car, but slightly better looking and with a naturally aspirated 6 cylinder!

I owned the first generation Boxster shortly after it first came out - I loved that car and used it as a daily driver - superb.
That outro was smoothhh. Even the car was greeting us with the indecators 😂
The 718 Boxter Spyder and the Cayman GT4, which is also a 718, are offered with a N/A 6cyl boxer and a manual transmission. perfect.

Dathumm The car being reviewed is the top of the range GTS and has a 2.5l 4 cylinder, so you need the new spyder of cayman GT4 to get 6 cylinders unfortunately.
At first didn't really like soft tops but they are now growing on me and that velvet and silver is beautiful.
You did great to compare the old Boxster to this new 718 Boxster. What a world of a difference :)
Thanks to Mercedes, for now having Real exhaust pipes coming out of rear is being called a cool feature

I had same model and you can get a golf bag in the boot, long clubs rest on top, and my folding electric golf cart in the front boot. So very practical.

In my opinion, especially with the upgrade in engine and design in the 718 Spyder, they made the boxter line a better sportscar than the 991, which is more of a GT nowadays

Boxster’s are one of the few roadsters that can fit two sets of golf clubs and luggage for 2 for a weekend. The rear trunk exactly fits a Sun Mountain stand bag. The trick is the clubs hide behind the tail lights and you use one or two “summer bags” which have no metal spines. Titleist’s have two short “feet” to keep the bag off the ground that hook on to golf carts and push carts. Two summer bags give you extra room for more. My buddy and I do a winter golf trip and it holds our luggage with clothes for a few days and all the cold weather gear we need.

Nah that engine may have a better sound but the performance sucks, 0-100 in 5\6 sec sucks for a 65k bucks car (and it'd be eaten by it's competitors)

I have the flat6. The 981 BS. It is reliable and great. I have driven from Sweden to Italy and now on my way back. Driven 7000kilometers. It is a headturner in all the countries I have been in. It sounds great to with the PSE. Grips really good. It is heaven like Matt said. 😀

I love the Boxster S but never been a fan of the 4 cylinder engine. I have the 04 Boxster S with the flat 6 & a sports exhaust. Porsche are a bit like Marmite, you either love them or hate them. I love them. Great review. 👍👍👍

The original 718 had a 4 cylinder. Alot of cars do. I think people that had the previous Gen Cayman/Boxster got spoiled with the 6 cylinder engines. Because if porsche introduced the 718 for the very first time with a 4 cylinder, there wouldn't be such an outrage. Obviously now the engine got down sized. However it seems like the new GT4 and Spyder have a naturally aspirated flat six

Ive never really been into porches cause i dont like to get exited over something i cant afford. im more into the mazda miata but man… after taking a good look at it, if i ever have the money to afford it i wouldn’t think twice before buying it . So simple yet sexy and timeless design just lovely.

You had the 718 in comfort mode, it sounds much better in sport mode
I thought that too. My 718 Boxster S sounds much more fruity in Sports mode than what I heard on the video. Note that in Sports Plus mode the exhaust is slightly less loud than Sports mode, and there are no pops and crackles.
Also carwow reved the yellow 6 cilinder much more than the 4 pot 718

They did it with the 911 996 (1999-2004) generation and almost everyone hated it they called it "fried eggs headlights" and the car lost its value because of that you can buy one for 20 grand.

On a lovely day, on a road like that, would you prefer the previous generation or the current generation? I have a 2005 Boxster S manual and my friend has a 2019 Boxster GTS PDK. I prefer the 987 (Gen 2) as it is much more analog. It is amazing how little has changed in the Boxster in 14 years. The adaptive sport suspension is a great option that makes the car much more useable in different road conditions. The sport chrono package (clock on the dash) is completely useless but looks awesome. Thanks for the great videos.

As a golfing Boxster owner, I just wanted to say that you can get a set of golf clubs in the rear boot and a trolley in the front.
