I don't know if this is your first time watching her channel, but I absolutely love Amy's channel! I would definitely recommend her channel to new bunny owners you encounter at your rescue as a supplement to any written materials you might hand out (of course with the stipulation she's not affiliated with the rescue of necessary). It's only my opinion, but Amy has the most "middle of the road" approach/content I've found to rabbit ownership on CZcams that seems to follow the HRS recommendations and philosophy. I love that her educational approach is nonjudgmental, one of the best examples is that she free roam her rabbits, but goes through all the risks and acknowledges it doesn't work for every home or rabbit and does through alternatives She is also the only person I've found to go through the hurdles of bonding free roam rabbits specifically. Overall her channel just feels like a hidden gem that is one of the first channels I point people to one CZcams after the HRS written guidelines.

The last 2 bunnies I rescued passed away almost 3 years ago, the longest time I’ve been without a bunny but circumstances weren’t right to properly care for one until recently! I just brought home Winky, a mini Rex , I rescued 6 days ago, found your channel 4 days ago🤗
I am hooked and amazed at the amount of information I’ve already learned, need to change and everything finally is making sense! Winky will have the best life ever and I thank you for that! Back to reading, watching and learning❤️

It may have been worth giving a small shout out to some of the shelters in the area - including ones that you do not work / volunteer with. Making a big, wide list helps to 'camouflage' which shelters you work at, in doing so giving you another layer of privacy protection, and also encouraging local viewers to support those shelters whether adopting rescue bunnies, volunteering, and/or donating.

Congrats on 100 videos! And I agree, so many people give up rabbits because they didn’t realize how much work they’d be. It has nothing to do with the bunny. There are so many breeds/colors available, and people there who can answer questions about their personality too.

The rescues around where I live have quite a lot of French lops, angoras, Flemish giant mixes, and Americans. It’s fun to browse through all of the adorable bunnies (I can’t care for any right now, I hope to someday).

I recently adopted a Californian that has one lop ear and one perky ear. He's so adorable! I also adopted a brown rabbit that looks wild. He's got a buck skin coat, white tail and light belly. Big head and big ears too! They are both so cute

I think the pure black rabbit at the end of your video is a satin. These rabbits have very flat fur because they are an inverse rex. Rexes only have the inner layer of fur and satins only have the outer layer which is very sleek. My satin is very curious and active.
The Polish breed characteristic you described is very familiar to me. I have a Polish that looks like the white and brown spotted rabbit at the beginning of your video. He is a lot more cautious than my satin and he takes a while to warm up to people.

My boy was too! We were thinking he would never get along with another bunny but it turned out that a woman near me found a rabbit dumped in a forest and I knew I had to take him in. At first my original bunny fought him and was very angry but with lots of patience and bonding they are best friends now!

I'm literally in love with you and your buns! My buddy and I are in an amazing relationship. He's a Holland Lop and so amazingly happy. The only issue I have is that he doesn't like hay. Maybe, once in a while, but pretty much never when I watch him he'll eat it. Maybe.. So, from what i have seen and read its pretty much my fault for allowing him to eat what he wants, ie I give him fresh greens every day. Am I long term killing Mookie? He's very belligerant when it comes to food so his preferences can seem like necessities, but my brain tells me I'm just giving in to my boy.

That was a terrific video! I do have a question. I am new to the bunny world and had two Giant Flemish Rabbits that I bought from a breeder. One is a buck and the other was suppose to be a Doe. I let them both free roam my home but I always had to keep them apart from one another because my buck, Franklin was the first one in my home and he always tried to claim Dominancy over her. It was very hard because I did not like keeping them in their cages for two hour intervals and at at night. The day came for Sarah to get spayed, I received a call from the asst and she told me Sarah was a boy, a minute later the Dr. called me and told me that sadly my Sarah died on the table.
I was going to rescue a rabbit, but I have been told by different people and by watching videos that I would not be able to bring another buck into my home, even though Franklin was Neutered, he and the other buck would end up fighting. As far as a female went, I was told I would have to bond them in a neutral area, which I would do at my daughters house. But my question is, how long does it take to bond a male and female? Also, is it guaranteed that the two of them will not end up fighting when I bring them back to my house “Franklin’s Turf’?

    • @nanduboy1313
      @nanduboy1313 Před 2 lety

      Sorry about Sarah
Male and female bondings work best. It should take around a month or two. And you should: 1)make sure they're 111% bonded for a week before bringing them home, 2)deep clean you're home, wiping everything down with vinegar water, 3)rearrange all your furniture so that it looks like a new place, 4)start in a small enclosure and slowly go bigger in your new home
I know this is late, but I hope it helps!

  • @bunnoc5837

8:24 might actually be a Netherland Dwarf in the "Black Otter" color. The black otter coloring is really similar to Silver Marten's, but it looks like the guy in that video is pretty small. The two other things that make me wonder if he's a Netherland Dwarf is that he has shorter ears as well as looks a bit brachycephalic (pushed in nose/face shape like a pug). This is also what some "purebred" or closer to "full breed" Netherland Dwarves as well as other brachycephalic breeds like Holland Lops can be prone to respiratory infections and dental problems.
That being said, all of this is just my understanding from lots of reading and some anecdotes I've heard while volunteering with my local HRS so take of with a grain of salt! :)

We got Xiao Wu from our local shelter as a bond mate for Shen. Sadly, Shen recently died. Afte our time of mourning, like two days later because Xiao Wu needs a bond mate, we adopted this three legged, orange furred, fiery champ of a bunny. We don't know her breed is, since mix seems to be the most common in the shelter here, but we'll call her little but fierce. :D

I wrote a separate another comment earlier, but wanted to mention some of the most interesting possible breeds and breed combinations I've seen and heard about volunteering with my local HRS.
    1. Dutch/Lionhead (this is actually my bunny, Bunno).
    2. Lop Eared/Rex
    3. Harlequin/Lionhead (both in the tan/brown and white/grey)
    4. English Lop (a more rare breed to see dumped)
    5. Continental Giant (similar to a Flemish Giant, but a bit bigger, I believe they share they to descend from similar lines though).
    6. Angora
    7. We have one Ruby Eyed White that's much smaller than a Florida Whites or a New Zealand and I've always wondered what he is, he's maybe 5 pounds max.

So interesting to hear what breeds you have seen in your rescue! I live in Sweden and have 3 bunnies from a rescue over here. Two of them are actually full breed - one white wiener and one teddy lop (dont know if this is the english name hehe). My third bunny is mixed breed, she has Rex fur and the typical Rex shape of her head but with lop ears. I never adopted them because of breed tho, i think personality and other factors are more important :) Love your channel and i finally understand the confusion between european and american names for mini lop and holland lop!

Hi everyone, out of subject but..in my country, we don't have rabbits in shelters as they are usually seen as livestock,(or accessories in pet shops) so I'm planning to get a bunny from a meat breeder, you know..to save a life, but...I don't know if there are any specialized exotic vets in here, my question is: should I just get one and give him/her the best life he/she can get?..as in anything is better than the slaughterhouse...or just forget about getting a pet rabbit?
