Just finished watching this documentary and remembering when i used to watched the news on tv and seeing people desperate and in pain after losing everything and their love ones. My heart hurt so much I felt so helpless, i wanted to go and volunteer but since I was so young and living in NYC in a such an expensive city was hard for me economically then. 3 years later when I finally had a better job I went to NOLA and I couldn't believe there were places that were still not fixed and people were still struggling, it was sad and scary at the same time. But regardless of everything I still fell in love with the city , food and the people. After that I've gone there a couple of times and I'm never disappointed .
I always felt that I was meant to be there. Now I'm a saint fan and NOLA will always have a special spot in my heart.
Thank you for the upload !

    New orleans after Katrina
I never went before but go often at least 3 weeks of the year to visit, love the people, the culture, the food. Love to support small places and hard working people. Always with a smile and kind gestures.
I cry seeing this footage the suffering people had to endure the dead toll, the sick, the houses flooded, the lack of help, the evident corruption and lack of sense of urgency. In my eyes the biggest natural disaster in the US of our times. I am sorry. I have a special love for New Orleans and its people.

I was in 5th grade in Baton Rouge when Katrina hit. My dad ended up getting hired right after the storm to work on the London avenue canal, and he went down a week later. I thought I knew about Katrina, but then I watched all the Spike Lee documentaries about the aftermath. I never thought about the decomposing bodies, the smell, being crammed together and forgotten about with no food and water, cops and vigilantes looking to kill. I had heard stories here and there but this really helped me put them together. Having been to ground zero and seeing the damage, now that I have this knowledge there is a knot in my chest. I love New Orleans and it’s people even more. When I was young I felt like it was Louisiana vs the world and apparently that might be true.

I remember seeing this doc for the first time...it still makes my heart hurt...and as an American...I feel shamed and humbled by the way Katrina and the aftermath was handled. New Orleans is a special city...culturally, geographically, in it's bio diverse natural resources. Much was lost...forever lost. I have nothing but admiration for a city so hell bent on survival. Vive la New Orleans and may God bless.

While the response to Katrina was atrocious on every level, I strongly disagree with the concept that somehow the social ills of New Orleans were brought on by the storm. These problems were exacerbated by the storm, but not caused by it. For the last 30 years New Orleans has had either the highest or one of the highest murder rates in the country.

I think that's the consensus. Everybody says they were black and poor and nobody cares about them. It was WORSE after Katrina..

Dear America, may The Most High God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob reward you for how you have served his people these four and a half days here in Babylon. May The Most High remember the suffering of his people and the prayer of his saints and deliver his judgement for the controversy of Zion swiftly and speedily. Hallelujah, Amen.

They acting like young people didn't commit horrific crimes in NOLA pre Katrina, that is not true. I lived there in the 90's, it was considered the murder capital of the country. But hey let's blame it on the people that came in and tried to help because they're outsiders, and not a part of the corrupt system that has always been there.
