    Hello I also live in the Pacific Northwest. Thanks for doing a product review on the smaller one. I purchased The 96 egg version and I was extremely extremely upset with everything about it . I never did do the product review because there was some terrible legs chopped off from the fan with the bigger incubator. You did a great job with this one so I may consider buying this one and testing it out.
    One question... did you buy that plug in the wall that tells you how much you spent with electricity separately or did it come with incubator? I would love a link and you’re welcome to message me on Facebook. Charlie’s chicks or Charlie Trevino. Thank you

    Hi... We just bought the same incubator I'm only on day 2 but my chicken book says 40-50% humidity then increase after taking the turners out. I can't figure out how to take the turners out and if I should increase the humidity or go off what the chicken book says. We are here in california

      @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371  Před 3 lety +1

      Those are great questions.
      1) Personally I go off of the humidity conditions that are in my environment. Realistically the chickens if they were naturally broody and hatching them on their own they would be confined to the weather conditions of your environment.
      2) Don’t stress yourself out over everything. Remember in nature the hen would have to get off the eggs time to time in order to feeder herself etc. so if you have them in an incubator with a always set and controlled temperature with a set humidity level your going to do fine.
      3) I’m not sure the incubator you have but My tuners just comes right out there is no secret to it.
      I hope this has helped, best of luck!

    • @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371
      @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371  Před 4 lety +1

      pierre kattar Great question, I would keep them in the incubator for at least 24 more hours. Once the chicks hatch they have around 72 hours before they will even start to eat or drink. I would wait for the other eggs to hatch. Once you open the incubator you will instantly remove that humidity and Lower the temperature which could cause the chicks trying to get out of their shell to be crushed in their shell due to the rapid environmental changes. Your chicks will be fine in the incubator for a day or two no problem.
      Hope this helps and congratulations!

      Victoria Murrell I did not wash but I did sanitize them. You want the protective coating on the eggs to be left intact. I did this by mixing a solution of “Original mouthwash” and warm water and putting it in a spray bottle and generously spraying your eggs. Wait for them to dry then put them in your incubator. • @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371
      @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371  Před 4 lety +2

      pierre kattar Great question. As far as I can see from the manual the days are not able to be changed. The days will start at 0 and go up sequentially. Meaning day 3 really means the egg has been in the incubator 4 full days.
      So for this particular unit it is not possible to add to the day count you can only reset the day count. So if the eggs have been in the incubator for a few days you would just have to remember to note the day they were on and subtract that from the new reset you have.
      I hope this was helpful reach out if you have any other questions!

But I do wanna point out that I have experience owning birds in the past, specifically parakeets. Now, I’ve done a little bit of research on them.And I’ve been looking for a good incubator.I came across this one.But I need your opinion on it.And if you think it’s worth purchasing.I’ll add the link in the comments.And then also if you could give me a couple pointers, what to do after they hatch or the supplies you’ll need.I’d appreciate it a lot.

      1) I can't really give an opinion on the Incubator you are referencing because I have no first hand experience with it. The one in this video Is great and I have had a lot fo success with it.
      2) I don't have any experience with raising parrots.
      3) I would reference parrot specific resources as far as supplies.
      4) If it were me and I was just given a newly hatched parrot I would put the parrot in a brooder. I have videos on that I can link but essentially you want a small space with bedding, food, water and a heat lamp.
      5) Thanks for watching I hope this helps

      Nancy Giron Great question. So humidity is controlled but the amount of moisture in something and overall heat. So the only way to lower your humidity without lowering your temperature is to reduce the moisture (the amount of water you added). Now for all the eggs I have incubated (duck, chicken and quail) I have never had a problem with too much humidity. For me as long as I keep the humidity above 50% I have always had great batch rates. Today is day 21 and I already have 10 chicks walking around and 35 eggs in the incubator. My dilemma is, how to get these chicks out before they starve to death without violating the “LOCKDOWN” rule. Last month, I had a similar situation, and I opened the incubator on day 21 to get 6 chicks out and I ended up with 21 “SHRINK WRAPPED” dead chicks stuck in their eggs. Any suggestions?

If the room is hot and moist I see there being less of a chance that it happens.

    • @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371
      @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371  Před 4 lety +1

      Johanna Garrett great questions 👍. As you already know ducks usually hatch around day 26 while chickens hatch around day 18 so by offsetting how you did should allow both to hatch around the same time. Personally I don’t think there should be any issue. Obviously if you didn’t offset I would be worried about lockdown times being different and possible cleanliness issues with the chickens hatching first but overall I think it should be fine. I have raised chickens and ducks in the same brooder. Just know that ducks are much messier then chickens.
      As for the egg turners they come right out. I personally unclip the harness (the electrical clip) and take the whole thing out. If you wanted to pop each individual tuner out you could but I find it easier to just unclip the harness and take the whole system out.

      Byrne Querol Great question. I would very carefully dot the drop of water off (a cotton ball works great). You don’t want that drop of water to cause a hot spot on the egg. The temperature in the incubator is about 100 degrees Fahrenheit. You want the eggs completely dry when your incubating. They will get all the moisture they need from the humidity levels in the ambient area in the incubator.

      Great question, you should lockdown at day 18 for your chicks. Even if the chicks start hatching they will be fine in the brooder first 3 days. They are hatched with everything they need. If you open the incubator to earlier you risk hurting the eggs that have not hatched yet. The chicks will also need to dry off and get their feathers fluffy. So I personally wouldn’t open the incubator until day 20 or 21.

    How much water should I out in it, initially?

    • @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371
      @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371  Před 4 lety +1

      Great question, now it all depends on what you want to do. I will fill it up with a full bottle (the one it comes with) of warm water. Personally for me as long as the humidity is above 50% I’m happy. I currently have Turkey, quail, chicken and duck and I actively incubate their eggs all the time. I have found that to be a successful policy.
      Again there is going to be some variables; your climate, your environmental humidity, altitude etc. But for again I don’t over think things, I stick with a humidity above 50% and I have been very successful.
      I hope answered your question.

      @@themyrtlewoodshomestead9371 I just set 8 duck eggs in this incubator. Humidity is sitting at 70%. I'm a little concerned because I'd like the humidity closer to 55%. Do you think I should wait and let it naturally come down over time or should I open up the incubator and remove some of the water?

    • @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371
      @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371  Před 4 lety +1

      Ben Maynard Great question, I would personally let it go down naturally if you were wanting it more at 55%. Temperature fluctuations are the most dangerous complications to your ducks. Again I personally Would let it go down naturally and add less water each time.
      Hope this was helpful!

    • @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371
      @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371  Před rokem +1

      You don’t want condensation on the walls. Just have some water at the base and cover the entire unit in a blanket and make sure there is something else like a towel or blanket under the unit. Remember humidity is great but it isn’t everything. There are plenty chickens hatching naturally in your geographical area without any humidity inputs so I wouldn’t overly worry about it.

    Hi why do most people incubating in USA have their machines on the floor, all the instuctions i have read, say not to do so, becuase of co2 biuld up at floor level in the home. I know nests are often on ground, butI pressume its a more open environment also animals and children are another. Sorry to sound a bit negative

    • @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371
      @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371  Před rokem +2

      I honestly have not seen any data that states that CO2 is built up in the floor level in homes. If there was more CO2 lingering on the floor level it would be of no consequence because there incubators are operating on a fan lol.
      So honestly I don’t see any merit to that contention. Maybe you can shed some more light on it?

    You do not have it set up right the styrofoam top is not lined up right and you do not have to lift the top up to put water in for humidity there is a hole in the back that you can put water in. The instructions that came with my incubator said the humidity should be between 50 and 55% the first 18 days then the last 3 days go up to 75% humidity

    • @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371
      @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks for the comment I clarify alittle.
      1) Using the styrofoam is just insulate the device. I have used the styrofoam I have also used a towel or blanket. Especially since I place this device off grid regularly.
      2) I like to lift the lid up and add water because that allows me to get eyes on the eggs and see if there any cracks, and it allows me to candle them if I choose.
      3) I choose humidity based upon my geographic locations because my chickens are raised and local to this area I find that keeping them incubated to standards set forth my geographic area makes for higher hatch rates.
      Thanks again for your comment
