    Today we're discussing the upcoming Garfield Movie and why I think there's a good chance there could be some behind-the-scenes dairy marketing going on.* Does Garfield's new obsession with cheese seemingly outranking his half-century long obsession with lasagna and pizza seem suspicious to anyone else? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
    *All viewpoints and opinions expressed in this video are speculation and I am not claiming them as fact.

    The dairy industry is milking this movie for all it got. (Pun intended)
    You make a good point about how Garfield's love for pizza and lasagna (mostly grain products?) got replaced with a love for cheese.
    Hopefully Garfield goes to a realistic dairy farm and switches to plant-based cheese as a result at the end of the movie, but this twist is extremely unlikely.

    🔎Seeing snippets of a few other trailers, it seems like a major plot point of the movie is that Garfield & co actually get stuck in some sort of cheese factory (which is where him sitting on the block of cheddar comes from). Since the movie’s not out yet, I can’t read the synopsis but it’s safe to say I expect it will indeed involve a ton more cheese references.

    • @extropiantranshuman
      @extropiantranshuman Před 26 dny

      sounds like it's going to be a boring movie if that's all that it's about. At least with lasagna and pizza - there's more out there for intrigue - the mystery of what makes him love it - rather than just outright stating what it is.

  • @nottoberemembered

    Dairy is one of the cruellest businesses ever conceived, but what makes it even crazier is that my vegan-from-birth kid is obsessed with plant-based cheese. ‘Cheese’ was one of his first words. I keep thinking the poor kid doesn’t know how bad plant-based cheeses are (in taste) compared to dairy but there you go, it’s all he’s ever known and he loves the stuff. We’re keeping alive an industry that runs on sexually violating defenceless animals into forced pregnancies to kidnap their babies and exploit their bodies for a product that can be perfectly replaced in one generation.
    And if you’re not vegan from birth then yeah, plant-based cheeses are very hit and miss and still not quite the same, but they’re getting there. I’d rather be among those who sacrificed something (no matter how trivial) in becoming vegan then waiting like some of my friends who have adopted this attitude of ‘well, when it’s all made in a lab and 100% indistinguishable in taste then I might go vegan’.

    If it was about Garfield finding out he is lactose intolerant and going for the quest to find out how he can still enjoy lasagna/pizza without dairy, I would be okey with it, tbh. But the dairy shills would implode in an instant.

Verily, I say unto you, beware the cat named Garfield, who doth consume the cheese of the land without repentance. For it is written, 'Thou shalt not partake in gluttony nor covet thy neighbor's lasagna.' Thus, let him be brought forth and judged, for his sins are many and his repentance none. nice in-depth work. However, I have some improvements
    - linkages from one video to another for some continuation - so you can see patterns in news
    - recommendations of what to do instead and how to create better - like if there's a cheese competition that isn't working, create a fake cheese competition
    * otherwise it kind of becomes a running ad for the dairy industry - as bad news is still publicity for them
    * something like - what's wrong and what can be done about it - for vegans, potentials, and non-vegans alike.

    Just like with streaming platforms, they do not have to disclose what companies have paid for product placements. Like Dr. Bernard says, don't blame them, they are just following orders. Sometimes it is hilarious how obvious it is, like how in almost every single scene in Pretty Little Liars characters are either drinking coffee or alcohol.

    • @TotallyForkable
      @TotallyForkable  Před 27 dny

      I never watched PLL but that's interesting! Were they drinking specific brands of alcohol and coffee? Or do you think it was more of a general lobby effort like with cheese?
      And yes, no one is technically doing anything illegal. Obviously these things should have to be disclosed, though, especially when it's something vague like "milk" or "cheese." The general public has no idea how this works and thinks of these things as ubiquitous concepts rather than products that are specifically marketed. Everyone can laugh at the obvious Pepsi sponsorships in Madame Webb but no one knows to laugh at the absurdly high volume of cheese references in Garfield 🫠

    I usually stopped watching the garfield movies because they're not vegan. I wish they could've done vegetarian lasagna only to develop an obsession with plants, but oh well. I have to be honest - my family's vegetable lasagna that I ate as a kid (5-6 years old) was what made me love vegetables so much - I went on a plant quest to find the best plant-based foods. So it's possible the turns they can make. I honestly can't truly figure out that ideal lasagna and haven't gotten many hints - but I keep trying lol - it can be its own spin on this - maybe there can be a vegan version of garfield (but its own character) - if someone can make it.

    • @extropiantranshuman
      @extropiantranshuman Před 26 dny

      maybe you can pull a john oliver and do the vegan version of whatever news you're working on. Something like how it should've been - what it would look if vegan - like the garfield but going in a vegan direction from the lasagna. Place it at the end of the video - like a trailer. I know it's a lot of work and effort and you probably don't have a john oliver-level budget, but you know what I'm saying.

    Very good catch, Inspector Clouseau! Yes, subtle product placement is very nefarious. I remember seeing the movie The Reader and right in the middle of it, there was a totally gratuitous scene of the young protagonist smoking a cigarette, very amateurishly. The book has no such scene or activity mentioned anywhere in it. It was almost as if the movie makers had to insert the smoking scene at someone's request. I have heard many low budget independent film producers rely on tobacco money to help with production costs. But this is capitalism...

  • @taylorhardaway8031

    I have honestly also noticed for years vegan and vegetarian characters and references inserted into movies. I’m curious what is behind that exactly and what you think about that. Is that a good way to fight fire with fire? Does it come off sneaky? Idk. The most famous example is the ET frog dissection scene. I also remember them ordering a vegan option on an airplane in Shang Chi, it was random so there has to be something behind it. There have been others too.

    • @TotallyForkable
      @TotallyForkable  Před 27 dny +2

      Interesting observation--I don't remember the ET scene and am not familiar with the other one. In my observation, any references to vegans or vegetarians are usually to illustrate how annoying or freak-like a character is.

    • @biancat.1873
      @biancat.1873 Před 26 dny

      Usually, the vegan characters get depicted as awkward or losers. Vegan characters in movies & shows more often than not rather convey an anti-vegan message by making them annoying.
      And vegetarian characters are contra-productive anyway, since the dairy & egg industries ARE the meat industry. Vegetarians just refuse to eat their victims.
